    Excellent walkthrough! The version that magically appeared on 2.8.23 here in the US is slightly different -left and right are inverted, probably because we drive from the left side, but otherwise it's very similar. With audio (I used Musicolet) it's massively better - with a really sensitive scroll bar that lets you jump around in the track instead of FF and Rew - much easier. It also seems to crash much less. It was a long wait but so far it seems that this brilliant idea is finally ready for prime time. I'm gonna give it another day or two and then change my one star review to five stars. Very happy camper!

    Great video! How do you make Spotify full screen? It gives splitting with google maps, or keeps interchanging positions with google maps in size. I can make google map full screen, but not spotify

    • @TechInTheCar
      @TechInTheCar  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It depends on the size of your display, if it is a very wide display then you will always have a Split View, for the smaller displays just tapping on Spotify will make it full screen.

      Tacoma default screen here, it's definitely not as nice-looking or easy, but it's perfectly usable and I've enjoyed it thus far. Plus, if you really don't want the widget, it's particularly easy to just press the map or just press the Spotify (not sure if he mentioned this in the video) and it'll open in full.

  • @tiadaid
    @tiadaid ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I have a 10in head unit, and the Coolwalk update puts the widgets on the bottom half of the map rather than the side. It looks fine, but I rather prefer the widget placed on the side as it is here. Not sure if it's changeable.

What I want is to use Android Auto to play my music via Spotify or TH-cam Music for example and then keep the android auto minimized and display the car's own navigation system. Does the music from the Android Auto continues to play or does it stop when you exit the Android Auto app in the car's infotainment? Thank you.

    It's actually pretty sad that android auto looks very laggy and touchscreen doesn't seem to be as responsive.
    I'd rather pay a bit more to get a screen that's super responsive and a faster CPU installed because that's the main issue with Android auto atm. There should seriously be a standard when it comes to infotainment systems.

      It depends both on the car and the phone you have, ive had very different experiences of android auto through the years

    • @Ownage4lif31
      @Ownage4lif31 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@TechInTheCar The touch screen just doesn't feel as responsive as a phone. I always have to click on the item 2-3 times for it to register. I've tried a bunch of different ones too, all in different price ranges. Seems to have the same problem.
      There definitely is lag, my mazda 6 uses a custom operating system and doesn't lag at all but the touch screen problem still remains for that car. Most car touch screens in general just suck. They can definitely make it better and charge us more for the option. So while the issues aren't really android auto's fault, more the manufacturers, it's just sad to see that there isn't a standard that makes them responsive.

    At this point I'm willing to accept any change to Android Auto, as long as it fucking works. even if I don't like how it adds extra clutter and rips off Carplay. I shouldn't have to connect with a wire in a 2019 vehicle and it should stay connected at all times when it is.

    When speaking about Android Auto versions, are we talking about that on phones or installed in to the car units? Presumably they are both apps in their own right which need updating to communicate with each other

    • @TechInTheCar
      @TechInTheCar  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This update is the phone side update. The car side doesn’t need updating as the phone is projecting the display to the car. However, some cars weren’t designed for wide screen android auto so their software puts a black box on the edge. This was the situation with Kia, Hyundai & Genesis models with wide displays but they all put out a car software update to support widescreen android auto recently. Which was a great choice by them showing the customer experience is a priority.

      The one time I allowed my friend to use his Car Play in my car for gps, Apple Maps lagged way behind where I actually was driving, causing me to pass up multiple turns. I don't know if this is a rare issue on Apple but Waze on AA has never did that to me.

      I have a 10th gen honda and my headunit is fine and people usually complain about them being slow.

    Still cannot use my phone while using Android Auto? lol. 1000 Euro phone and I'm forced to use the sluggish car touchscreen which likes every one of my fingerprints!

      Why doesn’t your phone work?

      @@TechInTheCar To express myself better: I mean I don't want to be forced to search addresses or alternatives routes on the car display. I'm very quick on the phone with these things (imagine searching a POI you want to drive to in an email or website). I don't want to unplug or disconnect from Android Auto to be able to do so. The UX is so unpractical... I rather use a phone holder because I'm quicker, more flexible and VW never heard of power delivery over USB-C.

      For safety reasons the phone shouldn’t be used while Android Auto is connected to the car.
