I heard Alan Thrall make the point that powerlifting and bodybuilding go together. If you want to put up more weight than bulking up would obviously help.
That was awesome, plus a free program which is better than some of the junk I've paid for. I've tried the standard powerlifting programs and became slow and stiff, so I was racking my brains trying to fit in powerlifting, standard bodybuilding, and some 'functional' stuff that makes you feel healthier and more useful in regular life. Just got to bite the bullet of lifting sub- maximally.
That’s exactly the way to do it! Smart programming, a little cardio, a little functional work, some hypertrophy work and I do yoga 2x per week. I’m healthier than I’ve ever been and still PRing
I feel like it’s pretty simple. It takes more time, but do all strength and strength specific training first in a session, then do hypertrophy and accessories. Make sure your split is conscientious of the strength lifts (I.e. don’t do posterior chain work the day or two before deadlifting).
Great video! Question for the Q and A: A deep internal right hip pressure/uncomfortable feeling when doing dumbbell reverse lunges after my comp squats. Thanks!
Can hitting singles like this for ages be sustainable ? Or good for growth/ strength long term ? What do we do after the 4 weeks do we just reset slightly heavier or change a rep range ? Could we run this in 3 x4 week blocks starting with triples then to doubles then to singles with the main movers ? :)

I said this because this because I believe I can achieve this physique naturally , because I have a good physique already and I can get close to these numbers on bench, squat and deadlifts "NATURALLY" without so many problems, I just need to bulk a little bit.

@@BrendanTietzyour still not natty neither are your clients. The reason why people say this is because people don’t like getting lied to. The fact that you defended gear users with the gear isn’t as big as a factor argument is bullshit. People who take gear grow from watching tv and ordering fast food. That is a way bigger factor than if you start fat or skinny and if your arms are longer or shorter.
Question for Brendon: What about doing 1-2 weeks off of heavy lifting and doing just high rep body weight stuff like 3x1min push ups and sit ups to work the energy systems and capacity before a block of higher volume lifting?
Not even close to the energy demand! Squats for sets of 8 burn significantly more calories than pushups ever could. We don’t have data on this exact scenario but 4x8 175kg deadlifts burned 100 calories according to one study. That’s absurd. To do that with push ups would require something like 15 sets of 30 or some crazy shit. Plus it’s non specific
@@BrendanTietzbut does such an approach improve the work capacity to then allow for more optimal higher volume training of like sets of 5-12 with better capacity
Hey Brendan, I have completed four weeks of your program so what should I do now? keep the weights same? and for how long? or should I increase my 1rm and take out new 83%, 87%.... for my heavy top set?
Hey Brendan, just a few questions. New to powerlifting here, how often should we go for 1 rep maxes? This ties into... does this mean that we should mostly be doing off-season training most of the year? And ultimately, could I run the fusion/hybrid program to go from say a 3 plate deadlift to a 5 plate deadlift (in lbs)?
If you’re new to PL and lifting (different than being new to just PL) I recommend every 12-16 weeks going for new maxes. More advanced will be 16-28 weeks. Depending mostly on the body and its balance. Hybrid programs took me to a 760lb deadlift but I would run PL intensive programs for short durations here and there.
@@BrendanTietz thank you very much for all the great info ! Would you say that if i deadlift Heavy on monday is it okay to squat heavy on friday or should it be the thursday ?
Powerbuilding. With a strong emphasis on size. You need to gain more size. Do our fusion program and eat well! Really well! And sleep like a king. 8-9 hours every night of TOTAL sleep. Not time in bed. You must calculate this with a watch. Track your macros. And go hard!
Yeah bro ofc you did 660 pound squads ad 6foot with long arms and legs with a insanely good physique naturally. This guy is a clear fake natty ain’t no way this is possible
