What I love about this cover is that it isn’t just a meme, this is totally a song that Smashing Pumpkins *would* cover. It’s like it came straight out of a *slightly* alternate universe.
Interesting what if. Even more interesting, though, would be what if ZZ Top did Where Is My Mind? Or Metallica. Or Alanis Morissette. Or Black Sabbath. If we're talking other universes, the possibilities are endless. As interesting as it may be, however, personally I'll stick with the universe in which it's a Pixies song. Pixies do Pixies much better than anyone else.
Yeah, but did you not notice that this dude is not Billy corgan, so saying the pumpkins were influenced by pixies, based on this video, doesn't make a big pile of sense
Exactly. Billy Corgan found a new level of fame by lifting The Pixies in a manner Nirvana never came close to. The Toadies were a more interesting ripoff of the Pixies than Billy. This comes from a kid who had never heard the Pixies when he heard Today and subsequently fell in love with it.
Holy fucking shit! You are seriously talented, i can't imagine how much time and effort you put into your craft bro. I've been jamming out to your covers for about 2 hours now, you are fucking awesome!
The first time I heard this song, I thought that it had come out in the mid 90’s. I was shocked to find out it was from the 80’s. You can clearly hear listening to this song, and others by the Pixies, that they influenced a lot of early to mid 90’s bands, including the Pumpkins.
I love that little "Corganism" when you go from distorted almost screaming voice to this angelic "breathy tone. I was like "yup, this is Billy alright"
No ones giving the guitar tone and style enough credit, even before he opens his mouth this sounds exactly like the pumpkins playing the pixies! everything is perfect!
Could pass as a genuine cover of the original as well, beside being a Smashing Pumpkins version. You really put a lot of energy and character into the vocals in particular.
I see you're trying to sing like Billy but i have never heard someone do it well. Also Billy would absolutely shred some insane solo in the middle and need more fuzz plus some jazz drummer genius in the back.
Yeah, this just sounds like Pixies with some octaves thrown in and a fuzzier tone. Not quite enough shoegaziness and power in it. I mean, very well done and far better than I could do, but it doesn't quite sounds like the pumpkins covering pixies as much as it sounds like the pixies trying to sound like the pumpkins, if that makes any sense. And there's a dash of pop-punk in there or something with the chorus.
The original has a very, VERY special place in my heart for undisclosed reasons. This version is pure perfection, thank you for making it. It means more than you'll ever imagine.

@@ethanhood5304 it's a way of saying something important during youth like an experience or something you grew up doing. "Cutting teeth" is when babies teeth first emerge and really their first real experience of growth.
Wtf dude you're amazing with everything you do so talented its not even funny way better than all the originals and innovative with all your work I have no more words absolutely one sick individual you are keep it going please!!!
Good cover but not sure it sounds like Billy at all. Softer, breathier and with more whine and you'd be way closer. It sounds almost exactly like Jeremy Enigk from Sunny Day Real Estate and The Fire Theft tho so you got him down at least.
to all saying Corgan just ripped off the pixies, that may be true with something like “today,” but I consider that to be one of the smashing pumpkins’ worst songs. The true artistry of Corgan comes out in the deep tracks. One has to dig through that discography. Everything from Gish to Machina was sublime. Then it’s kind of hit or miss from there.
I wouldn’t think Pumpkins if it wasn’t in the title, but it’s a good cover nonetheless. In my opinion it needs more Big Muff fuzz and those soft, cooing vocals, as are prominently heard on Siamese Dream. The recipe for the Pumpkins sound is that combination of those soft vocals over the heavy guitars
What is truly amazing is this song came out in 1988. First time I heard it in the Fight Club closing credits I thought for a moment that it was the smashing pumpkins.
Love this song. Love the Pixies. SP was at one time my most favorite band. Feeling like SP missed an opportunity to cover this song, but you've done it for them. Really awesome job.
Soon as I saw this title I knew this would be good. The original song just seems like something smashing pumpkins would do. Well done. I want the SP version now!
I love this song bc it reminds me of my late mom. She loved visiting Hawaii, and one of the last times she visited, she tried seeing fish at the reef. I lost her to dementia... Your cover of it is phenomenal!

my theory.....black francis sold his soul for this song....pixies rule but this song pulls from another universe and kills in bluegrass, acoustic, all covers and even in this outstanding version Billy Corgan style

You could tell me this was off of the "Clockstoppers" soundtrack and I would 100% believe you, it so perfectly captures the late 90's early, 2000s.
Youre a slightly alternate universe
