Brilliant episode - once again! I have noticed that some dog owners make such a big deal out of bonfire night that they actually make their dog worse! When I looked after various dogs there is definately a difference in which breeds were more likely to be nervous than others, but this was not just fireworks it was in general. I just go about my evening the same as usual - take the dogs out a bit earlier to avoid any loud suprises ! - but I have found that if I show that im not bothered then they are not bothered. I wonder if anyone else found this too? x

Amazing episode. My dog gets excited when he hears fireworks because from a young age we’ve associated fireworks with treats or play.

Superb episode, our older dog now 11 was never bothered but became worried over time. Funny enough he shakes on hearing fireworks in the house but if I take him for a walk even while there going off he’s fine.

I love watching you guys and I wish I knew some of the things you discussed before I got my dog because I have created some of his behavioural issues. In my defence other people have helped. I found it harder to train the people around me to back me up. This episode has made me feel that I've done one thing right. I have a poodle and after research I found they can be an anxious breed. People think I'm mean because make a fuss at certain moments, like thunderstorms or when I'm leaving the house. I'd rather that than have my dog be stressed and upset.

As a part of animal rescue org in a rural area in Kwa Zulu Natal where fireworks for Diwali (festival of lights) and Guy Fawkes, also celebrated here, follow one another and unfortunately start earlier and tend to continue after the dates , the number of dogs injured and killed on the roads and lost by running from the noise is horrific. We find this firework fear very real, both in feral dogs and pets. Rescuers patrol at night picking up petrified dogs and taking them to safe houses and the SPCA . With our kenneled dogs we do give them calming medications to take the edge off the fear during this time. The banning of noisy fireworks is our aim. Certainly in this country there is no historical reason for the wretched things.

Really interesting subject. I always loved fireworks and had them growing up and with my own children when they were young. Our German Shepherd at the time would happily have sat in the garden with us. But then we got a Flat Coat Retreiver... A so called gundog! She would literally jump on the sofa, trying to hide behind you, and shake like a jelly and pant excessively. We tried distracting her.. No go. Food was also a no no. It didn't help living in London where fireworks go off every night for hours and hours for two weeks over guy fawks, divali, Christmas, new year and pretty much any occasion actually. Even the fireworks on TV for new year! It got to the point where I dreaded fireworks and her fear also started to rub off on our chocolate lab who was older and not been frightened previously. The FCR also hated thunder, lightening and rain. She would drag me round puddles or leap over them. She would never have been any use as a gun dog 😂. The result of her terror, it was more than just a bit nervous, and reading about horses who have been so stressed that they have died has actually changed my own view of them. I still like to see them but I do think there needs to be much tighter rules around them... Only for organised events and only for a minimum number of days.

We had fireworks going off last night. Jax was sitting at the front door pacing to get out. Trained that firework=ball.

My dog was okay with loud bangs and fireworks and also played with balloons and then one day a balloon popped on him. Now he cannot do fireworks (the noise and even the pictures of fireworks on TV) he's 5 and a half years old.
He now sits in bathroom panting until they finish😪
