I have always enjoyed watching Mr. Underhill and his books and I credit him with doing more to preserve woodworking hand tool use in the general population than any other living individual. Heaven only knows how much money he has saved with his infrequent haircuts. The rumor is that he is planning on closing his school soon and we can only hope that the rumor is false. The young woodworkers of the world need you Roy.
Roy Underhill is a US National Treasure. I met him at Colonial Williamsburg, and our conversation was a Teaching Moment. He taught me why we no longer see Saw Pits. It seems that steam powered saws eliminated the need for Saw Pits, so the sawyers cut up their Pits and sold them as Post Holes. Thanks Roy.😬
I grew up watching his show now I’m a Carpenter by day and a woodworker by night I wish he had mentioned if you want to be a woodworker you should become a doctor first so you can afford it.
Looks like Roy Overhill will be doing The Woodwright's Shop from the Alzheimer's wing of his local rest home whether the cameras are rolling or not, but no interviewer will be able to join in conversation with him.
It's because the front, back, and sides of the drawer will move and twist very slightly as temperature and humidity change through the seasons. If the drawer bottom is glued in, it will cause the drawer to 'rack' (go out of plane and/or out of square), and that prevents the drawer from sliding smoothly in and out of the carcase. There needs to be some wiggle room to keep everything lined up and working smoothly. A drawer that takes on a potato-chip shape will lock itself in place.
Every minute packed with a life time experience. Priceless. I’m so greatful…
We really need more Roy Underhill!

I have two of his books in my collection
I propose that Roy Underhill is declared an international world heritage site in 2023.
I have always wished Roy's PBS episodes could be longer than a half hour. This just proves that I was right!
I used to watch Roy Underhill on PBS. He was hilarious back then and he is still funny as ever today!
Thanks for posting this and having Roy on. Always a pleasure to see him teach.
Excellent. It was nice to see that Roy has not lost a beat. Please post when he returns...

I'm stealing that joke!
Hah!
Thank you for doing this Roy 😊
Best teacher ive ever seen
Love your show way back in 1979 ❤
Thank you for all your knowledge you are an inspiration
What I always find amazing is how Roy works with so much stuff on his bench.
I bet that is high end survey, real world, average of most woodworkers.
That's brilliant Roy thanks so much, so nice to see women taking an interest in Carpentry too , best wishes all from England 🇬🇧.
I grew upwith watching Roy
Roy is a national treasure!
I'm not sure this was really Roy Underhill because the fellow is missing Roy's trademark newsboy style cap.
I really liked the video where you made those smudge put holders.
Pura vida Roy great informative video

Thanks for sharing
Where did Roy find that four foot dovetail saw? Would love to have that!
So real and makes it ok to learn this stuff, make some mistakes
Do you ever work half blind dove tails on the box? You showed them on the drawers only.
Way to go Roy

Show! Parabéns.
I refer to your last dovetail joint as a Ramped dovetail
Why do you put a slide piece as the bottom of the drawer? To me that doesn't make sense.

@@thedevilinthecircuit1414 Wow! That's really cool. Thanks.
Roy was always a few bottles short of a six pack.
In a good way!
