David should have been properly trained and wrestled in the Indies for a few years beforehand.

True. They forced David in the ring in wcw. He should have been at the power plant.

The worst beating I ever watched in my life as a wrestling fan was when they had David Flair face Chris Benoit in a squash match. I still get queasy watching the match. I don't think David had any trouble selling the ass kicking because it didn't look like Benoit was pulling many of his moves. If the intention was to make David look sympathetic it failed. What it did was to enforce the idea that David had no business in the ring.

I remember Arn wrestling Erik Watts at a gas station wearing Zubaz workout pants. Lol😀

"I got there that day, and they said that's what they'd like to do." So he had some notice. They didn't wait until 5 minutes before the match.

I saw David Flair at an indie show in a warehouse just outside of town. I think he was in the last match, but he had to follow AJ Styles, who was a buck-o-five, high flying kid at the time -- the best wrestler on the card, of course. Wrestling is an interesting, very peculiar business.

The advice an all-pro NFL player gave to his son about a football career: pick a different sport.
I never saw much potential in David even if he had been trained properly. Maybe a mid card guy in the indies if David really wanted to wrestler. And use a gimmick to distance himself from dad, Ric's shadow could only hurt him.
I do get that WCW at the time was throwing random shit and hoping something would stick. No harm really came of it so whatever.

Many times you become great cause you had to do it the hard way. A gift can be a curse if given at the wrong time.

Well that explains it... I did not know he was never trained ... he just looked so weak and putting him with a Torrie and an idiot like Crowbar - did not help... I felt sorry for him.....It was like watching Erik Watts

The difference between him and Erik “STF” Watts is that David was legit about 6’0”, 185 lbs. while Watts, a former college football QB at Louisville, was more like 6'5", 235 lbs. and had more time training as a wrestler than David. Hell, Watts needed another year of training and a couple of years on the indy circuit before he would have been ready for WCW. David needed at least that and probably 25 lbs. of muscle added to his frame as well.
