I was homeless over 5yrs, I wouldn't change that for a billion dollars. It taught me so much, now I'm in a nice flat, and I appreciate everything little thing. Plus, I was homeless on the streets of London for 1yr, that's where I got saved by Jesus Christ. Also, living homeless for so many years has made me into a nicer person, I reach out to other homeless people too. On the streets I found that 99% of homeless people take something to numb the stress, I ended up on heroin/crack/alcohol and anything I could take to get by. If you are thinking of giving some food to the homeless, then don't just give them burgers etc, get them some fresh orange juice and other healthy food. My heart is broken at seeing so many homeless people, even in my home town of Scarborough UK, which isn't that big- there are quite a few. Why don't more people go to the union rescue mission? They will not turn this cancer patient away. They supply a safe place for women and they can rest and receive help, mental, dental, medical, and plenty of resources to help people get back on their feet. Their should be placement also with VA in other areas. She would have to move maybe to Menlo Park, California.
So if my memory serves me right... I believe in 2018 in California there were two propositions that we voted on ... One was for building housing for homeless veterans... And the other was building housing for mentally ill... Anybody out there got an update on that? I haven't heard anything since it passed... He was beloved by everyone who knew him, really wonderful person and RARE in that quality. Even after we broke up (before his diagnosis), he remained one of my best friends. No, I don't think that -- but it's funny you mention it, since I have a great grandpa, the Chief of Detectives in Quincy, IL, who died from having his skull crushed in an elevator in San Pedro, CA, when he died in the 1960s. Among some of his stories, he wrestled a man to the ground who was armed and suicidal; the man went to jail, was a whittler, and sent my great grandpa a handmade gift every Christmas until the day he died. You are a loathsome soul who is quick to judge. Nobody asked you to weigh in here with your hate in one had and the Bible in the other -- what a misappropriation of the spirit of the Lord, his teachings, and those within his congregation. Girl, go get your benefits from the va. Vets have drug use problems too, it’s actually really common. It doesn’t mean you don’t deserve help. You’ve already earned the help when you signed that contract and offered up your life for four years. I’m a vet too, so I’m telling you get the help you need. I’m a vet. I did 20 years in the AF, and can’t find a job. I have a great resume and degrees. I don’t understand why we have a low employment rate and can’t find a job. No drugs nothing
Take the resume and dumb it down for an entry level position or right above entry level, remove the degrees or just list an associate degree or whatever is your lowest one. Remove all the military style wording and use comparable civilian lingo, skip all the awards and random crap, keep it one page and put your name in bold red letters. After you get hired if it's a big company add all your actual education into the system after a few months and then angle and cut throats until your in the position you want. Apparently being good at lots of things is bad for getting hired. Congratulations by the way 20 years is an actual achievement.
Her tenacity, spirit and drive is phenomenal after everything she has endured . Very admirable. I wish her much love and opportunity. She has what it takes to be successful at whatever she puts her mind to.

Indifference really is harder to take than hate. At least hate has focus and recognizes a quality of a person to hate. Indifference is like they don't exist. It is worse.
Problem is that there is so much need and worthwhile causes that it can feel overwhelming and most people have limited time and are struggling just to keep there heads above water .....

I live in California and this just makes me so sad...with the amount of people on section8 and receiving assistance we should be able to do way more for our veterans! she can go to the VA and they will help her.
The VA is not helpful in most cases, unfortunately. My husband is in the military, and a lot of people seem to believe the VA takes care of our veterans, when in most cases they don't. It's so sad, and unfortunate. Our veterans should not be on the streets.
She is eligible for medical coverage through the VA . The VA in Westwood/ LA is horrible and so over crowded . Both my dad and father in law received medical services there ( both have passed ) . I know they can help her with rehab , a po box , medical but I'm not sure about housing . I'm just kind of bitter about my dads situation when he died , he wasnt treated properly .
Me too I lost my jobs from layoffs 3 times in Cali 2014 after being in that job for 9yrs 3months. Found a job after 6months worked there 2years 11months. Found a job in 3months after worked there 2 years got laid off the same day of the month I was hired Jan 4th, 2019. I'm been out of work for a year and a month a few interviews no calls layoffs put me in debt I don't know what's next. Comunistfornia moving to the Dark ages they get richer and tax the fuck out of everybody and let people undocumented get the jobs. And business and people leaving California Evil times we are living in..

When she said other vets deserve the benefits more than her I can totally relate! I am a Navy Vet and for 23 years I haven’t taken advantage of the benefits available to me for the same exact reason! Many people tell me I deserve it but I know how she feels totally.

Try an agency and keep looking. Look at what jobs are available (with your skills) and fine tune your abilities to get one. Move to an in demand area.

I live in California and this just makes me so sad...with the amount of people on section8 and receiving assistance we should be able to do way more for our veterans! she can go to the VA and they will help her.
The VA is not helpful in most cases, unfortunately. My husband is in the military, and a lot of people seem to believe the VA takes care of our veterans, when in most cases they don't. It's so sad, and unfortunate. Our veterans should not be on the streets.

She is eligible for medical coverage through the VA . The VA in Westwood/ LA is horrible and so over crowded . Both my dad and father in law received medical services there ( both have passed ) . I know they can help her with rehab , a po box , medical but I'm not sure about housing . I'm just kind of bitter about my dads situation when he died , he wasnt treated properly .
Me too I lost my jobs from layoffs 3 times in Cali 2014 after being in that job for 9yrs 3months. Found a job after 6months worked there 2years 11months. Found a job in 3months after worked there 2 years got laid off the same day of the month I was hired Jan 4th, 2019. I'm been out of work for a year and a month a few interviews no calls layoffs put me in debt I don't know what's next. Comunistfornia moving to the Dark ages they get richer and tax the fuck out of everybody and let people undocumented get the jobs. And business and people leaving California Evil times we are living in..

Being a veteran and help is available but pride got in the way of recovery
Clean now and slowly but surely making her way back to being with her kids

Devarion Loyd she’s not a liar - the person who wrote the comment just jumped to conclusions. She’s homeless because she was too tired from treatment to hold a job and take care of her kids, turned to meth, and got evicted.

This can and does happen to good decent people, and i truly think its brought on mostly due to circumstance, to many are to quick to judge and to quick to turn away, and to those i say, the day may come when its you on the streets all alone, and i hope to God there`s someone there to help you.

When she said other vets deserve the benefits more than her I can totally relate! I am a Navy Vet and for 23 years I haven’t taken advantage of the benefits available to me for the same exact reason! Many people tell me I deserve it but I know how she feels totally.

I truly believe that she's strong woman &she will be back on her feet again with God bless. No one should be homeless or hungry, specially in America where we got so many filthy rich people who could help them all if they would it want 2 do it. America waste billions of dollars on nonsense, instead to take care those ones who need it the most. Take homeless off the street, stop wasting taxpayers money on things that doesn't make sense.

This is unfortunate for this cancer survivor now homeless. I call on the authorities to provide all the help for this loyal citizen who served in the US Military . May God bless her and her family as she make changes to return off the streets to be reunited with her family after loosing her home and possessions in struggling to overcome her cancer in LA .
