- Welcome to Twin Elm Farms! On this channel we show what its like to farm in southern Manitoba, Canada. The farm consists of Kendal, wife Lindsay their kids Hayley, Parker, Jaxon and Brock. Kendal's older brother Darryl, wife Heather, their kids Mackenzie, Dylan, Quin and Ryenne. With our right hand man Pieter. We have other part time help throughout the season, Arch (combine operator) Terry (field work) and Rob (cattle help). We crop corn, soybeans, wheat, oats and canola. We have a cow/calf operation of mostly Simmental and Shorthorn with some other breeds in the mix. Hope you enjoy our content, please subscribe, give it a thumbs up and love hearing comments.
A bonus to taking some knives off of your auger for mixing is now you have extras! Thanks for bringing us along as you learn!
I'm sure you will get that feed wagon working properly. Just need to find the right combination. Thanks for the video.
Great job you Manitoba farm boys. 🐂
Am thinking about a tmr myself but running two tractors and buying tmr besides i can see your undecided
Hi . Glad the mixer is working better for you guys, glad you bought Canadian. 👋🐂
Man why wouldn't they sell them mixers with a extension. Always have to have extras to cost a guy more money lol
Glad to see it's working
Yep I hear ya,
@TwinElmFarms sure looks like a good way to grind up them silage bales tho. Are you gonna try and get away from chopping then or what's the plan. I run my silage bales through my processor at the moment but a mixer grinder wagon looks like the way to go in the future for me
@@straightpipeacres6365 we have to do done figuring out the best and cheapest way to feed, so I'm not sure what we will do next year. This really opens up our options.
@TwinElmFarms 👌
Excellent!!
Have you tried leaving it in a row, we get along quite well that way,
Put the first bale in then the corn silage then the second bale. Im no expert on it at all
I don't own a vertical mixer, but it appears that those augers are much taller (and take up a lot more space) than other brands, or maybe the sidewalls are much shorter. Is Highline a new brand?
Looks like you've found a better way to save on the amount of loss and the amount of feed that fattens the herd better! Fatter is always better is what I tell everyone Lol!
The ones with the horizontal auger that I’ve seen look like they work better
We had trouble with plugging long straw on our horizontal wagon, plus it does not cut up the long straw that the cows will pick out and not eat.
Where will you have the cows come calving time?? In the past you took them into the barn... is this the plan for this year also or ???
We will walk them home around Christmas time. Figure they can keep the manure out in the field plus they get more exercise which creates muscles to help with calving.
So did you buy the mixer to get away from tub grinding or is that still an option if you don't like the quality of mix the highline gives you?
We have never run a tub grinder. But I believe the tmr is more of an all in one step.
Do you think it would help to cut the wrap off before you put it in
They are cutting it all off.
Yes we take all the wrap off
I lose 1 or 2 a year from slipping theirs calves as well. Way she goes
Some terrible looking brown hay
It's baliage, very sweet and our nutritionist results were amidst good enough that we didn't have to add anything to the ration. It needed a little bit of energy so we add a little bit of corn silage.
