good vid, I remember first learning voodoo detective from a podcast where the developer was interviewed but then easily forgot. It''s cool to see how it plays and while not high in priority I may just get it especially if the playtime isnt too steep. As for your largest issue while Im not as dissuaded by the minimal gameplay I still sympathize with ya on it, a very likely reason would be a sort of overcorrection from the reputation adventure games had with obtuse/moon logic puzzles that plagued plenty of games in the 90s. gun to my head i would prefer that over an impossible game but it would get boring after a while.
Funny thing is that I agree with you almost entirely! My biggest issue with some of the gameplay is that it just sorta felt like it was "there". I'll take easy over moonlogic any day, but I'd also like for the gameplay to feel like it has a point/purpose.
The art is really handcrafted and beautiful. All over this place is so unique and distinctive. Personally, I feel that this kind of art is the best way to invoke a unique and personal sense of culture. If I play it, it really would be because I want to see all these set pieces again. I would wanna see them all come together.

I think it's a very well-made game overall (the final boss not withstanding). On looks and atmosphere alone it's aces.
