The estimated play time is so long that if you get together with your 19 fellow players for an hour every single day, it will take you about as long to play as the real life campaign for North Africa took.

But there is also some poorly done rail roading which doesn’t take alot of important shit into account. Really all I want from a mod is vanilla with better focuses, some new resources, food and electricity. And if I feel like it the old system where you just use to research vehicles and their variants.
Blackice feels like the hoi4 equivalent of The Campaign for North Africa, incredibly excruciating just to even set up and even more painful to execute.

this is my favorite mod for hoi4, but yeah, it's more of a singleplayer LARPing experience. the BICE server when they do MP games normally has 3 coops for majors, and they play over the course of 2 full weekends. the total war mod is its MP focused cousin, which should be more manageable.

thing about BICE is there is an ideal path for techs and researches for each country so if you dont know those paths then youll struggle, honest the more you play it the less its confusing because you just optimize your clicks
I'd recommend giving Kaiserreich another shot, since it recently released it's 1.0 version with the Germany rework and also has way better levels of performance. See you in the new year!
I love how everyone having no clue what they were doing ended up causing a lot of LARP (e.g. Soviets killing all their good generals, Japan neglecting their army and letting their people starve to go for a "decisive battle", Italy having no logistics in North Africa...)
It is really meant to be a single player mod. If you can pause whenever you want, it becomes a lot less painful. Especially when it comes to research, you can spend 15-20 minutes in the beginning of the game figuring out which tanks/aircraft in that stupid tech vineyard you actually want to research, and then whenever a tech is finished, you can just pause for a minute, check refresh your memory, choose the next one, and carry on.
As someone who played black ice a long time ago I can confirm it is a f*cking experience, I tried it once and then never again because it was so overly complex
I have played Black Ice mod for over a year now. Honestly, it is a lot to handle but when you understand the mechanics, you have a lot of fun. The mod is very realistic so it limits your options and makes things harder but more satisfying in the end.
I played a Black Ice MP game as Bulgaria and after 8 hours of buildup Germany forgot to do the custom focus to add me into the Axis in a 1942 barb(with France still not capped) so I just said fuck it and went to bed.

The comments of HOI 4 players about BlackICE are pretty odd, considering that those are the same comments made by normie gamers about Paradox in general. It's just a few more systems that take getting used to.
Golden tried to do tank spawn ins with a focus, and got 4 tank divisions with no equipment. You would have thought there would have been some larp focuses to try and help the soviets come back after germany obliterates them at the start, but there isnt. TFB is much more balanced and less AIDS to play

HoI 3 actually isn’t that hard. The hardest part is by far logistics and it’s mainly bc of bugs which make you black hole supply.
Hoi3 menus were a lot more easier to navigate than HOI4.
