It’s so true what Mr Smart states, children are so at risk with online predators. Could happen to any child. Scary.
These predators deserve to never be free ever again. If I had my way they would get the DP. Thank the lord Maddie was found alive and I hope she's also able to recover from the awful trauma she must have endured with that psycho.

Um, this was not similar. Elizabeth was kidnapped but this girl went willingly. Think there’s more to this story then was told. I hope this girl recovers, and I hope this should warn others NOT to trust anyone online.

Was Ed possibly attracted to Brian , initially? Is that why he gave him work? ...Because he wasn’t “out of the closet” , and thought he’d give him work as a good gesture but really he was drawn to this guy since he was so closeted....I’m sure he feels really badly if this is the case.
Lois was the one who offered Brian work, not Ed.
"I'm sure Elizabeth knows". Is Elizabeth one of his kids that no longer speaks to him after he came out? Does she feel the same way about his long kept secret as some of us do, that his "good hearted" bringing of strangers into his home may have had sexual explorations written all over it and spilled into the deranged couple taking one of his daughters as an "exchange"? I don't believe he would have given that couple permission, per say, but I do believe his behavior towards them might have triggered the issue (kidnapping/sex slavery).
This is my THEORY, not in any way shape or form confirmed by any of the parties involved. Only put together by separate facts of the case, and history of said behaviors within the age group of closeted men to which he until recently belonged.
I had no idea he'd recently come out. But I immediately noticed that he talked about her as if he doesn't speak with her. Saddens me. But your observations seem to be sound, even on a spiritual level. It does make a person wonder.
She literally posts photos with him on her Instagram and has openly thanked him for being a great father - after he came out. Spreading a false narrative that are estranged is dangerous. This family has been through enough.
In addition to the other replies, she gave a public statement about her love for both of her parents. No mention of cutting either out of her life.
Also, it was Lois who brought Elizabeth’s captor to their home. She saw him begging for money and had him come home with her

Elizabeth was 15 . she was kept 8 miles from her house. she was left unattended. she could have escapedat anytime. duh
According to Elizabeth’s book, she was tied up while left alone - it’s been a few years since I read her book but I believe she was hooked to a cable. It may have been very dangerous for her and her family if Brian Mitchel had not been taken into custody immediately when she was found.

Elizabeth likely had developed Stockholm syndrome, which is why she no longer tried to escape. I don't want to judge anyone who has been through this horror.
