the cancellation of the Sonic port still stings, this would’ve fit it like a glove

nah it would have been too slow

@@MyNamesNotShaneKid The demo that was released is pretty close to the Genesis/MD. There are situations where there’s more slowdown in the SNES IIRC and the resolution is lower. Regardless it got a lot closer than people expected, who knows how optimized the SNES port is and if there’s for improvements.

The one that only had Green Hill Act 3? That was just a tech demo for something else the dev was working on

@@Pixelator5 You're right he didn't want to do the entire game, I wish someone would. He wanted to make a SNES platformer and ported Sonic using his engine. He later moved to PS1, ported Sonic to it and made that open source. IDK if he did the same for SNES port.

This is a nice translation to the SPC. It really retains a lot of the YM2612 feel

sounds great! loving the masa's demo inspiration lol, this is a huge improvement over the original song. no idea how you always kill it when working with a snes lmao.

thanks a ton!! when I first started doing chiptune in 2021 I really wanted to do SNES stuff, but the program I was using at the time didn't have it. Now that Furnace (my current tracker of choice) has the SNES built in, I can come full circle lol

im kinda the same lol, except i never actually use the snes nowadays because despite always wanting to use it i dont actually know what to do with it lmao (plus i dont have enough brain to deal with the ARAM)@@Clingojam

@hiddenboy007 Try starting simple! cover a song you know really well to get a feel for the sound chip. and don't worry too much about ARAM; if you're using Furnace there's a built-in sample editor to help you save on space. you can also use wavetable synthesis for simpler sounds if you don't wanna splurge on the sample count!

After hearing several SNES covers of Sonic tunes that just try to emulate the Genesis original, I really like this new take / different vibe.

I respect it, but I think the original was composed with the Yamaha chip in mind, so if it was originally with this chip, the arrangement would be different

Eh, not really... The song was composed with the intent of being pared down to only a few channels, sure, but it's not like the core of Marble Zone's theme would be that different if it was ported to the SNES first. it'd probably end up matching the Masa's Demo version even closer than the Genesis arrangement did, methinks!
