i met johnny vegas once in euston station at around 9 o'clock at night, he was very drunk and was trying to buy a train ticket at one of the machines, he started talking to my mum and i and told me to always listen to my mums advice, unless it was about becoming an escort which he said was actually a respectable line of work. he then told us to have a good night and stumbled away into the darkness. it was such a weird night, felt like a fever dream, me and my mum went home laughing and still bring up our encounter with him to this day.

Sober Johnny Vegas has become one of the wittiest, weirdest, funniest, NICEST characters on the face of the planet! A truly Great Briton. And his poem at the end was TRULY heartbreaking.

One of the most naturally funny people on TV. Doesn't even have to tell jokes he just acts like himself and it's hilarious.
Johnny is superhuman in his comedic timing and ability to stay deadpan during his longwinded rants while every single other soul around him is dying of laughter
It's amazing how Johnny can be so hilarious and also so earnest. In between his insane anecdotes and rants there are brief glances at the emotional man underneath that make you think "I'd actually like to sit down and have an earnest conversation with him", and then the clip about telling the builder to fuck off starts playing and you forget all about it and start laughing 😂
That's the Northern English style, especially Lanc/Manc. Deadpan and slightly sarcastic. Les Dawson was the master.
His auto biography is fucking heart breaking. But well worth a read.

The poem is one of those things that should be in all poetry books and in a museum. It's genuinely beautifully written.
I wonder how something like that will live on in the age of the internet. There's so much subtext behind why a person like Johnny Vegas coming out with this poem at a time like this make it so amazing.

As guy who has dealt with a good share of substance abuse issues, that line never fails to make me well up with tears. Not only is Johnny a gifted comedian, he's a thoughtful and genuine soul.

My favourite thing about johnny is that when he tells a story , it makes no sense at all but his accent and his tone of voice makes it so funny and enjoyable to watch

I've always watched, and liked anything Johnny vegas has done. But in recent years he's on another level, especially his panel show appearances.
His last leg takeover is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. You can see it in his eyes that he's plotting his next line, but every one is delivered with perfect timing.

OK, this is the first day I've ever known about Johnny Vegas. Either he is the most astute village idiot or an absolute fucking genius. Im leaning towards the latter, and either way I love him.
Whenever I feel sad I just turn this on and in 30 minutes or less I feel so much better.

He's doing well. Northerners wear their hearts on their sleeves and he's always been open about his demons. I don't think he's playing much of a character though, more of a slightly exaggerated version of himself, and possibly channeling the person he used to be when he was gigging absolutely shit-faced.

Not only is Vegas brilliant, he helped me a lot in starting to understand some of the stronger UK accents. When I saw her the first time, I didn't understand a word he was saying. Now I can follow him just about all the time, and if I miss something, re-watching what he said usually helps.
I come from the same town as johnny and have seen him on numerous occasions at our beloved st Helen's rlfc watching the game like just another die hard fan , he is fond of the odd pint and I have stumbled upon him looking very merry a few times , but he always stops to say hello and is very accommodating with his fans , top bloke , man of the people, never forgot his roots .

You don't write poetry, especially beautiful poetry, from a dry wellspring. If the poem moved you in the way it is wont to do, then real emotion like this was felt at least once.
If you watch his interview with Richard Herring, he talks a lot about the Johnny character as being a kind of defense persona for him. He sounds like an incredibly thoughtful man as his true self, glad he's cleaned up a bit
