    So my conclusion is this: If you have a pro-transmitter like PCS or better (with MPX), then use stereotool with a studio sound card. If instead, you have a Chinese transmitter or other transmitter that says "stereo", then you should use this card.

      I own stereo tool and it has one glaring issue - it's very counterintuitive. I've owned the licence for more than 7 years now - it only gets worse with every update.

      Umm...
      You do know that you have an EXCELLENT quality soundcard already, right??? Its called an optimod-pc (yup. THAT one, in your hand.)
      Its a multi-in / multi-out device thats already setup to utilize virtual input/output channels as well. I believe asio4all will work fine(if you dont mind the degraded resampled audio asio4all is famous for).
      Dont forget orban has a native virtual in/out audio routing client for it as well. I preferred using linux style virtual client for routing. Jack audio & several other such tools worked great (even under Microflacid's Win-donts 7 etc.)
      Yes, you can multi-route, return-loop route, or feed-forward route stereotool as well. It wont eat up additional CPU cores/cycles either(depending). Just make sure you are VERY meticulous with ALL your sampling/conversion rates etc. Things can get nasty if mismatched rates occur or multiple resampling etc. And be very selective which program/client/service will perform any such task, as well as where in the chain this will occur.
      Just my $0.02 ÷ current inflation = useless opinion.
      Cheers!

      @@porkrinds9572 you can't process audio for FM with it. You will need a external stereo generator with good quality composite clipping. Something like the Omnia.9SG. this makes the price go way up. Better going with something like a Omnia.6 or Optimod 8200/8400/8400 If you're low on budget. Or if you need REAL processing for FM. Go way up to Omnia.9

    Thats very good it has pre emphasis for fm snd filtering so you dont need a 19inch rack this will do

    Please do an update!!! If you could, experiment with the pre emphasis on narrowband 3khz. Curious how it does with that.

    XLR is pro, because balanced - & + signal cancels noise with shielded twisted pair. It's like a hum-bucker.
    Also called a differential type pick up. Easy to bridge XLR for RCA type coaxial connection.

    11:15 The input needs to be lower to give the audio processing the headroom it needs to process the audio without clipping and or distorting it. You’ll find if you use an input level that peaks at 0dB let’s say, that it would come out on air a distorted mess.

    you cannot have 75K all the time, it depends on the amount of high frequencies and the level of them in your audio signal. High audio frequencies that can deviate your FM transmitter carrier to 75Khz are only maybe 15% of the music spectrum. In addition to this, the CZ analyzer has a relatively low sampling rate and cannot display every rapid frequency deviation.

    You can do the processing on PCn and use a external Composite generator like Stereotool with composite Clipping. This with a dedicated Transmitter with MPX Input you will get better sound and no overshoots including RDS. Remember these transmitters have input audio tilt. And this makes a lot of overshoots on the signal.

    Optimod pc1100 it for streaming mostly the Optimod 5500 would be better for you its rack mount but its fm version which means it has stereo generator and clipping clipping is the loudness for fm which the pc1100 does have or look if the still have the orban optimod 5501e which is a soundcard like the 1100 but designed for fm with that final clipper

    The reason why you have overshoots to 90 khz + (most likely) is because your source material is not dc-coupled. For instance, you'd have to go into (if you where using stereotool) to bandpass and choose remove dc offset.

      @@spectra-man like is stereotool better at audio processing, or would you prefer the orban soundcard?

    • @spectra-man
      @spectra-man  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@antonio1681 Most people would probably say stereotool is better cause it has a lot more settings and options. I don't like over processed sound though, so I prefer the optimod. I like more compressors, but less AGCs cause the AGC will color the sound. The fact that optimod is a studio quality soundcard at the same time is the main reason though.
      Stereotool might be a little cheaper, but in order to get a similar setup, you need to get a studio quality soundcard to use with it, so the cost goes up more. Using stereotool with a normal soundcard is a bad idea. There will likely be a buzz in the signal and the stereo encoder may not work.
      The downside to this card is that it will not make an MPX stereo signal, so if you want stereo, you need an external encoder or a transmitter that has stereo built into it.

    You kidding?
    That transmitter is SHIT!
    better be on a dummy load. BTW, those optimod-pc cards are pretty crap for pro use. Most importantly there is NO FILTERING suitable for transmission use over the air built into these.
    However, they're great for what they are, for sure.
    Love your vids.
    Cheers

    • @spectra-man
      @spectra-man  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, the transmitter is shit compared to a UK built VCO PLL, but I disagree with your thoughts on the card. It does have filtering as you can see that I set it to 15khz. Do you mean high pass filtering or something else? You are correct though that this is not "meant" for broadcasting, so it doesn't quite hold the modulation at 75khz as well as it could, BUT using it with a real transmitter, it should be pretty good.

      Yes. I agree. The chinese units are ALL absolute shit & a disaster for the beginning hobbyist or (worse) some dumbass pirate wannabe. However, some do make decent FM amplifier boards/kits & multi-bay antenna elements for suuuuper cheap!
      For what this channel has spent on chinese rubbish kits, he could've bought a kit from Free Radio Berkeley, or (my favorite) a Veronica exciter kit. Also, some excellent exciter boards built in Israel as well.
      It would be AWESOME to build some of those units, then see which performs best across spectrum, SNR, RF output, sound quality, carrier stability under heavy modulation & abnormal reflected power/load match etc. etc. ---Now THAT, would be Premium youtube content!!!
