Boys 2.0 - Femboys, Traps and Anime

  • It's the femboy video. My search history is an absolute hazard after researching this one. Every thing you wanted to know about Traps/Femboys and some you didn't.
    ----
    In case you've been inhabiting a rock for the past few years here's the lowdown on femboys. Think of a boy....now make it fem.
    If you've been into anime for any amount of time you're probably more familiar with the term Trap. Characters like Felix, Astolfo, Hideri are all examples of traps. For the unintiated the reason they're called traps is because the reveal of their gender is generally played either for comedy or shock. They "Trap" the audience into being attracted to them before revealing their gender.
    This narrative device is old as dirt and by extension has a lot of examples throughout anime and other media. From my earlier examples I think its clear this cliche reached its peak over the last few years. Between Astolfo, Felix and maybe Bridget, that's like 90% of the trap memes on the internet.

      Didn't even realize how old these comments were. I was once confronted with the question of if trap could be deemed derogatory because it's implied that the goal is to trap and trick someone intentionally; to humiliate them. That calling someone a trap was like calling them a predator. But to me, trap has always been an affectionate term. A cute nickname to describe a crossdresser.
      While I do see how trap could be seen as being offensive when only used as a punchline or a gag, I do still enjoy the jokes because it means we get more cute anime characters. I've cosplayed as Felix and honestly it's the most fun I've ever had. Everyone all around was also super happy and wanting pictures. Looking fem and pretty hurts no one.

    I think attraction nowadays has gotten way too classified. A lot of people are always trying to figure it out or redefine what would make them gay, bi or whatever else. Attraction can’t be quantified, just as much as you can’t say “I love this person more than this person” most of the time. Just don’t be afraid to admit you like something and everything else doesn’t matter.

    Traps its an outdated term for femboys. Even before 2020. Around 10-12 years ago people started to realized that the term "trap" had REALLY transphobic connotations. Because of this, people transitioned from calling it trap content to femboy content. I remember that by 2016 most people where already calling otokonoko characters femboys. I thinks thats where IRL content creators got the term femboy. Is not farfetched to think that a crossdressing twink called himself a femboy because that's what he learned otokonoko characters where called on this side of the world.

    i think the first shock for me personally of a trap, was a reverse trap, a girl dressing and acting like a boy, in the movie "Pitch Black" with vin diesel, something clicked (or snapped) when i saw that and it stuck with me for ages, how the female characters had a sudden 180 with how they reacted to this character, become nurturing and understanding, ie feminine, when they found out this boy was actually a girl and like you mentioned, Tomboys had an outlet in cartoons and were normalized, whereas femboys had no outlet until the date you mentioned, and suddenly seemed to explode, which probably meant this phenomena was there all along, just suppressed.

    I have been thinking a lot, and in 2019 realized a relationship with a transwoman who's as feminine as the kind of woman i get attracted to, would be just as nice.
    In 2020 after many of those anime memes, i started to realize that it could be the same with such guys.
    ... So i became bi for femininity!
    Ps. this isn't just for fantasy or such, this has been thought through with relationship in mind, including living together, doing bedroom stuff AND marriage, just like with a lady.
    And yes, i'd give him a ring, too, of course!
    Basically how i thought when i was straight, but then transladies and guys with such feminine personality included!
    Yes, exactly the same style! Including handholding in public, and living together as a couple... like sharing household stuff and more than just gaming and hen... anime!

      You see,my noble fellow human! I agree with almost everything you said,and I also think the same, except for the part of marrying a femboy/trap/newhalf/well youget the point. The reason for this being the fact that as a Christian, I won't ever accept two biological males as a couple, THOU I have no problem in like, living together, doing bedroom stuffand such, since I recently discovered that I AM (a bad Christian.... I mean...) attracted to femininity on such a small level, that I would have a relationship with them, not marriage, nor presenting to my family as a couple, because of said Christian values and such) and I do mean it with no intention of being offensive to them, since it's just my perspective of Life, not a rule that I want someone else besides me to follow.... Also, Idiscovered my so called Bisexuallity because I was introduced to *Futanari* on an early age, and for some GOD only knows why reason, I liked it way more than I shoud've... and I am very happy to see a comment from someone whose way of thinking is close as mine almost on a personal level... It is incredibly difficult to explain the nuance of sexuality. I feel like most people just can't comprehend being able to like traps in fiction but not being attracted to men irl. It's already a sorta taboo topic but then the rest of it seems to have become politicized on top of it. Can't talk about traps in public without someone being offended and suddenly turning into a trans debate or something. Makes me glad those Reddit communities exist. Like-minded people not just tolerating it all, but actively encouraging each other to embrace it and enjoy it and just have fun being different. It's really sweet.

    Yeah I feel like I’m in a weird limbo like you said I definitely wouldn’t say I’m bi. I just like the petite feminine nature of femboys, it’s hard to fully explain or comprehend even for myself. I feel you’re onto something with your train of thought.
    Another thing for me personally is in the bedroom femboys really get into the performance. Some of them even more than most women appear to but, then again most femboys will be there for that sole reason.

    women have been borrowing from and adapting men's styles for hundreds of years. of course tomboys, or borrowing a boyfriend's clothes, or just wearing things like a t shirt, blue jeans, and sneakers while female are beyond normalized. however human societies rarely have specific call for boys and men to be overtly feminine, and masculine norms are very often narrowly defined. this makes it very difficult for males to break the gendered mold with any degree of social acceptance. men's styles in general decade of decade change very little over time. And add to that the ever growling prevalence of the lgbtxyz movement, and any man or boy who does outwardly display any measure of what is considered traditionally feminine, and most people immediately jump to the assumption that he must be gay or trans (or something). This makes the outwardly feminine straight male a rare, and highly fetishized/ memed specimen, taken seriously by very few. (though to be fair, if a guy is wearing a maid outfit and cat ears and doing a meme dance to j pop, -- on camera or otherwise -- he's not really trying to be taken seriously.) conservative culture rejects feminine men despite accepting less than ultra feminine women, and "liberal" culture trys to insist a feminine male is anything other than a straight guy. So for a guy who simply appreciates traditionally feminine aesthetics on himself to find a place in society is very difficult. The proverbial pendulum swings agonizingly slowly for one half of the population, and swings wildly the other way far beyond reason for the other. Crazy world we live in.

    I'd like to share my concerns openly, without any intent to offend or exclude others. As someone who identifies as straight, I've noticed a noticeable rise in the visibility and representation of people from the LGBTQ+ community. While I fully embrace diversity and inclusiveness, I can't shake the feeling of unease about the potential impact on straight individuals. The growing number of people identifying as transgender, bisexual, gay, or lesbian seems to be leaving a smaller proportion of straight people. This shift concerns me.

    • @ThatOneCatto
      @ThatOneCatto 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Why would it concern you? It's always been prevalent, it just seems that there's more talk about it now and thus more people are aware of themselves (and probably a few are lying and saying that they are while they aren't). I don't see how this would "concern" you though, as you said you're accepting of them.

    • @RgY_Taken
      @RgY_Taken 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@ThatOneCatto You're right about that, and I fully accept them. However, my concern stems from a desire to ensure that inclusivity doesn't inadvertently lead to the marginalization or overshadowing of straight individuals. It's not about being against LGBTQ+ visibility, but rather about maintaining a balanced dialogue where all identities feel respected and represented.

    • @Kreyadian
      @Kreyadian 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It's not possible to make anyone trans or gay, it's something you are born with and is more complicated than chromosomes or societal pressures. I'm not as educated in studies for sexuality but I know for sure there have been multiple studies over the years (some less ethical than others) that have proved that it can't be forced onto someone. What more LGBT representation does is it opens up people struggling with these thing to a whole community of people going through the same thing to help them live their life in a way that makes them happy.

    • @ThatOneCatto
      @ThatOneCatto 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Kreyadian True, and even moreso for transgender people. There have been few studies on the brain structure of trans folks that have found most brains of trans people are more similar to the brains of their chosen gender than their gender given at birth.
      Here's one study I found, if anyone's interested: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8955456/

    • @RgY_Taken
      @RgY_Taken 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Kreyadian From my perspective, I've noticed that social media has played a significant role in this trend. As we scroll through our feeds, we're exposed to a wide array of experiences and identities that we might not have encountered otherwise. Think about it like this: Imagine you're flipping through Instagram or TikTok, and you see people from all walks of life proudly sharing their stories as members of the LGBTQ+ community. Maybe you've never had the chance to interact with someone who identifies as transgender or bisexual in your day-to-day life, but suddenly, you're seeing them share their joys, struggles, and triumphs right there on your screen.
      For some individuals, this exposure can be incredibly empowering. It's like they're finding a community where they feel seen and accepted for who they truly are. And for those who may have been struggling with their own identities, seeing others living authentically can serve as a beacon of hope and inspiration.
      However, I must admit that as I witness this growing visibility on social media, my concerns only seem to intensify. While I understand the importance of individuals embracing their true selves, I can't help but worry about the potential impact on those who identify as straight. It feels like there's a shift happening, and it's leaving me uneasy about what it means for the proportion of straight individuals in our society.
      I recognize the value of inclusivity and diversity, but at the same time, I can't shake off the feeling that this shift might somehow diminish the experiences or sense of belonging for those who identify as straight. It's a complex issue, and while I support individuals in their journey towards self-acceptance, I also believe it's crucial to consider the broader implications and ensure that everyone's experiences are valued and respected.

    I dunno femboys in 2020 is where it started for my personal journey of discovering myself. I started crossdressing for a few months and just having fun without caring about what others might say. Than I started thinking more realistically what I as a person would care about a potential partner and turns out personality not gender because I just like both body types from Bears to petite lady's 😅. So in conclusion Love=Love not gender or body type to me I like both to be on the receiving or giving end of things if u know what I'm saying and femboys is where it started to be more open and not force myself into anything particular. So thanks Felix for letting me discover myself.

    People call this trend the "male equivalent of tomboys" a lot, but tomboy is a much broader term. It's hardly an umbrella term that can encompass every non-traditionally-masculine guy on the planet, it's a very specific trend inspired by an anime trope, and not a lot of guys can pull off the look. It would make more sense to compare femboys to something like the flapper trend from the 1920s. (exactly a century apart, ironically.) Regardless, I'm glad that the boundaries are being pushed. It seems as if, while women have practically every option open to them, both the traditional feminine roles and the masculine ones, and can be any type of person they want, (which to be clear is not something I am against,) men are stuck just being men, with all the cultural implications attached. Sometimes we're treated like men first and humans second, if at all.
