    Is there any advantageous reason for the parietal being autonomic & not somatic?

      Great question! The peritoneal layers share their nerve supply with the structures they cover. Since the abdominal organs receive autonomic innervation, the visceral membrane will too. So far as I'm aware, there's no specific benefit to this, other than it being an efficient way to innervate the membranes. It does also mean that we're not constantly aware of the normal movements of the abdominal organs!
