    I just want to add that he was using the pedal in "mode 2" where the order is: "record, PLAYBACK, layer" vs the out of the box mode 1 where it is " record, layer, PLAYBACK."

    • @SaxJockey
      @SaxJockey 5 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Most people seem to prefer Mode 2....maybe Boss should have shipped them with that as the default.

    • @maapi
      @maapi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      How do you get it into mode 2?

    • @SaxJockey
      @SaxJockey 5 ปีที่แล้ว +38

      @@maapi From memory, remove power from the pedal (remove the output cable or remove the 9V PSU cable or switch PSU off), hold the pedal down, re-apply power; an upper semi-circle of RED LEDs come on in Mode 1, cycle the pedal twice within 1 second, the display should change to a lower semi-circle of RED LEDs. Remove the power again. On next power up it should be in Mode 2 (Record/Playback/Overdub). This is RECORD Mode 1 & 2. Be careful not alter the STOP Mode, the default STOP Mode 1 is an upper semi-circle of GREEN LEDs (double tap stops the loop immediately). Mode 2 is a lower semi-circle of GREEN LEDs (double tap stops at the end of the loop and DELETES the loop!). Accidentally getting into STOP mode (GREEN LEDs) probably occurs by only cycling the pedal once. It will probably cycle back to RECORD Mode by cycling the pedal once at a time.

    • @SaxJockey
      @SaxJockey 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Stan Williams Not surprised, the procedure for changing the mode can be confusing (I did it by accident....then I read the manual 😁). I do not use the pedal that much at the moment. I find playing through a Boss DD-3 delay set to longest delay (800mS) is fun; play a chord then pick notes to accompany the repeated chord.

    • @SaxJockey
      @SaxJockey 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Stan Williams The RC1 is good and basic, the rotating display makes you aware of how long the loop is, you can quickly lay down multiple layers and get amazing sounds, BUT it only saves one loop/track/song. The RC3 can save up to 99, BUT remembering what is in each location may be a challenge! The RC3 has a lot more functionality (rythm tracks, USB import/export), BUT also means bending down to fiddle with the controls (store track, change track, change rythm track), an optional stop/start/change track footswitch can be plugged in to help. The video by Dawson's Music illustrates it quite well. I guess the RC20 is even more capable. Either one will provide many hours of fun! A Boss DD-3 delay (or BF-3 Flanger) in front can provide two inputs to the looper which can go out to two amps for maximum stereo/spacial effect. I use that set up occasionally, but in the main just one amp for a more focused (and less low end) sound.

    This looks like *exactly* what I need to start learning some basic lead guitar! being able to "play over myself" will be wonderful! What a time to be alive!

    • @longandmcquade
      @longandmcquade  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Awesome, a looper can definitely help with that. But you should also check out our demo on the Roland JS-10 if you want some backing tracks to play some lead guitar over. Check it out here: th-cam.com/video/EHkFW46tAp4/w-d-xo.html

    This is the best tutorial I've seen for learning how to use the Boss RC-1. Yeah, I know, the Boss RC-1 is simple compared to other effect pedals and for most players familiar with effect pedals, no instruction is necessary; but, watching this video helped me (a complete beginner) tremendously. Now that I know how to operate the Boss RC-1, my electric-fiddle practice sessions are fun! Thank you!

    Good video, good looper pedal, I changed it to operate in Mode 2 as in this video (Record/Playback/Overdub). Loopers are very useful for practice and have additional uses. Playing a loop through an amp/pedals frees up your hands to adjust the settings on the amp/pedals to find the sweet spot.

    Bravo!!! Great tutorial. I'm a decent rhytm guitarist, but my real instrument is my voice. I've been learning the CAGED pentatonics up and down the guitar neck and the RC-1 paired with your video had me practicing and sounding decent from "jump street" and leading me to believe that I can graduate to lead guitar in short order. • @longandmcquade
      @longandmcquade  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There shouldn't be a pause in betwen your loops if you sync up when you start/stop playing with when you stomp on the pedal. Sometimes it's helpful to even play beyond the downbeat, but stomp the pedal to stop recording right on the downbeat, as to ensure there's no pause or blip between the loop.

      If you get a shock when using the PSA adapter but not when using the battery it sounds like a grounding issue. Did you try using the PSA adapter in a different outlet? Different room? Different building?

    Hey! I was wondering what the playback sample rate is. I can't seem to find what it is.

      Seems to be undocumented. We'd guess 44.1kHz.

    Can I use a clean loop and then use overdrive over it without making the clean loop overdrive

    • @longandmcquade
      @longandmcquade  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, put the loop pedal after your overdrive pedal, not before. If you put it before, the overdrive will distort everything coming out of the loop pedal. If you put the loop pedal after the overdrive, it'll only record and loop the signal coming before it, which means you can control if you want the loop pedal to record your tone with the overdrive pedal on or off.
      If you're using overdrive from the amp itself, try putting the loop pedal in the FX loop of the amp.

    Great demo. Mine goes from recording to dubbing to playback. Can you change the order to have it go to playback after recording like in your video?

    • @dcqmichael
      @dcqmichael 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. It's a mode setting documented in the manual.

    When I push once on my rc1 it goes straight into overdub. Is there a setting for this?

    • @johnnyparmesano2358
      @johnnyparmesano2358 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's ecplained in the manual. Somwthing with pushing the pedal while switching it on. And then press it twice

    • @MrAriel4444
      @MrAriel4444 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to change the settings from overdub to playback. You have to unplug your pedal, press a button (see manual for what button) while off, then turn on your pedal while pressing that button, and you'll go to the menu, and from there you can change the setting. I recommend to see the manual for clearer instructions

    Hey Dan
    Can you plug a piano into it.?
    Can you send thus signal into a mixer?

    • @longandmcquade
      @longandmcquade  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you can plug anything with a 1/4" output into this pedal. However the line output from your digital piano will be a much hotter signal than the pedal is expecting, which is instrument level. You'll need to turn the volume of the digital piano way down to compensate, but this might cause noise issues. Ideally you'd use a reamp box to convert the line level outputs from your digital piano to instrument level for the RC-1.

    Thanks. Easily understandable. Can this be used for background vocals? Would using the 1/4" jack rather than an xlr input effect the quality of the vocal sound?

    I've been using the old (discontinued) RC-20xl loop pedal for years. My first one wore out. My wife bought me a used one in great condition but it just crapped the bed last weekend. I am having a hard time finding another replacement. I borrowed an RC-30xl and within half an hour realized that it's a piece of shite. I wouldn't use it to prop the kitchen door open during load-in. I'm frustrated, because the 20xl was so intuitive as opposed to this double-clutch pedal business. I do need a looper, and I may have to reluctantly get one of these, but I am NOT happy about the 20-xl being discontinued.

      I have 1 of these and yes it's Boss great. But I just got a Donner Circle looper and within moments of use, have 2 loops saved with drum tracks. So much easier and as cheap as buying this Boss used.

    I've never used a loop so I'm looking into them. This thing needing a very fast double tap foot action to stop it seems an absurd thing to have to do while playing. Anyone have experience?

    • @drippytescobag7097
      @drippytescobag7097 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s quite common in all loop pedals and effect pedals to tap the foot twice to stop. I personally find it convenient but if you find it uncomfortable you might just have to get used to it because out of the 4 pedals I own, to stop them you have to tap twice.
      Sorry

    • @caleb-gw8oo
      @caleb-gw8oo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you think about it, it's not as inconvenient as you think. It's more inconvenient when you are just trying to chill or something and then you have to walk over to the pedal to tap it twice. But if you're actually trying to practice or if you're playing live then that definitely shouldn't be a problem. When you're playing guitar, it's not like you can take your hand off the guitar to push a button or so real quick
