Yes i agree. My teacher from 30 years ago had me meet tommy before he died. Rest in peace both tommy and Ms. flanagan my old teacher. Tommy really just has a better voice than ronnie drew. Tommy is the best irish singer around.
you can also know them by knowing me. I met tommy so many years ago. Im actually 60 i just dont want to seem that old. But i met tommy when i was 15. My dad worked at a facotory in cleveland. Tommy worked there too. Since they were both from Ireland he came over quite a bit. Thats also where tommy smashed his hand if you ever heard about that.
yes tommy my mentor and friend. Hes the best at every song there is. You should boogidyshoop and look at some the the clancy's videos. Tommy was best when he was just with Liam Clancy. Those were good times.
oh yes it was. I also knew the clancy's but not as well as i knew tommy. I miss them all. I should get in touch with liam.Hes the youngest and last clancy alive.
Seen him do a one man show at Old Saint Pats years ago. What a show, told the corniest jokes between songs you ever heard in your life that had everyone on the ground criein laughing.
Was this guy from Sunderland ? All the Mak 'ems came from there !! "Look a tractor ! We mak'em ! Look a ship " We mak'em ! " Look a Tank! " Yeah we mak 'em as well ! "
Something beautifull :) I will probably make some enemies now, but i say it's better version than the Dubliners one :) With all the respect to Ronnie Drew and Dubliners i love them too :)
Farewell to you, my own true love; I am going far away I am bound for California But I know that I'll return some day So fare thee well, my own true love And when I return, united we will be It's not the leaving of Liverpool that grieves me But, my darling, when I think of thee I have sailed on a Yankee sailing ship; "Davy Crockett" is her name And Burgess is the captain of her And they say that she's a floating shame So fare thee well, my own true love And when I return, united we will be It's not the leaving of Liverpool that grieves me But, my darling, when I think of thee I have sailed with Burgess once before And I think I know him right well If a man is a sailor he can get along If not then he is surely in hell So fare thee well, my own true love And when I return, united we will be It's not the leaving of Liverpool that grieves me But, my darling, when I think of thee Oh, the sun is on the harbour, love And I wish I could remain For I know it will be some long time Before I see you again So fare thee well, my own true love And when I return, united we will be It's not the leaving of Liverpool that grieves me But, my darling, when I think of thee
Wonderful.
He looks like that Scouse singer who migrated to Belgium and composee The Mobile Phone song and Potferdek It's Great to be a Belgian.
Great rendition of this wonderful song. Makem was a wonderful singer. Thank you very much
Amazing song and a great artist.
RIP Tommy.
What a great voice. Enjoyed the song too.
I’m an Englishman and my Dad used to say there was no greater version than Tommy Makem
Lad. It does not matter what tommy looks like. His voice is just as great as usual. Just listen. Dont watch. Think of the Tommy that you know.

I wish i would know them, but i'm afraid it's impossible. I can know them only by their music, and what other people say about them.
Nice banjo. A Pete Seeger Vega, I think. 🤔
Was this guy from Sunderland ? All the Mak 'ems came from there !! "Look a tractor ! We mak'em ! Look a ship " We mak'em ! " Look a Tank! " Yeah we mak 'em as well ! "
Amazing (song AND voice)
Something beautifull :) I will probably make some enemies now, but i say it's better version than the Dubliners one :) With all the respect to Ronnie Drew and Dubliners i love them too :)
Yes i agree, but with all the brothers and their father it was more like a family :)
Damn. We need him in California
I’ve seen a livelier audience in a morgue!
@ADoyle131
Aye, Tommy is indeed!
What was that Why is we connected Irish And Finnish
Anyone know what banjo chords he's playing. I know it''s in the key of C. I am learning the 5 string and am mad to learn some Makem!!
Panch21 it's a one four five. So in c, there's a c, an f, and a g in there.
Sounds quite similar to Pete Seeger except for the Irish accent!
Meanwhile over in Liverpool the Beatles were singing She loves you yeah yeah yeah wtf...
Farewell to you, my own true love;
I am going far away
I am bound for California
But I know that I'll return some day
So fare thee well, my own true love
And when I return, united we will be
It's not the leaving of Liverpool that grieves me
But, my darling, when I think of thee
I have sailed on a Yankee sailing ship;
"Davy Crockett" is her name
And Burgess is the captain of her
And they say that she's a floating shame
So fare thee well, my own true love
And when I return, united we will be
It's not the leaving of Liverpool that grieves me
But, my darling, when I think of thee
I have sailed with Burgess once before
And I think I know him right well
If a man is a sailor he can get along
If not then he is surely in hell
So fare thee well, my own true love
And when I return, united we will be
It's not the leaving of Liverpool that grieves me
But, my darling, when I think of thee
Oh, the sun is on the harbour, love
And I wish I could remain
For I know it will be some long time
Before I see you again
So fare thee well, my own true love
And when I return, united we will be
It's not the leaving of Liverpool that grieves me
But, my darling, when I think of thee
Nice accent, I didn't hear it much in Dublin.
he is from Armargh
tá go mhaith
agus tú
Great man, dreadful beard though O.O
No beard, just sideburns.
bahaha
That awful facial hair look was big in the early 70's.I agree with you.
TOMMY MAKEM AND LUKE KELLY IS THE IRISH SINGERS LIKE JENNIE FROM BLACKPINK AND MOMO FROM TWICE
I don't like this version but Makem could make any song smell better.
