It's hard to remember so far back when Kotaku actually had some credibility and respect.
I mean that's game urinalists as a whole these days but it is a remarkable that even the most respected have all lost even the smallest amount of objectivity.

Sorry, but that has been their unironic view for a LONG time. Journalists honestly believe it is there job to ensure the population is told what they need to know because they honestly believe the smelly people are too stupid to be able to successfully filter out the raw information into correct sentences.
They believe this. There was a big interview with a major UK based editor (which I can't now find again) where this retiring editor directly stated that the vertical model of information was the only correct model (ie - information is controlled by those who have the skills and technology to spread information) and the horizontal model (ie - people sharing between themselves... aka NuMedia) was dangerous.
They unironically believe they are better than us and that we should NEVER be allowed to 'do news' ourselves.
The fact that her rant got taken down instead of celebrated by all her peers shows that we are making progress. If we soon hear that she's decided to step away from Kotaku for personal reasons, we might actually be close to winning.

If you haven't figured it out. With Kotaku circling the drain, the editor is doing what she can to get her name out there. Stirring the pot keeps her name in play, which means she likely will have opportunities once Kotaku vanishes. She's feathering her nest by turning herself in a brand. It is clearly working. The more people remember her name, the more opportunities she will likely get later.

Folks like Alyssa are why I have little sympathy for these folks loosing their jobs. It's one thing to disagree, but their side have employed some of the most odious tactics imaginable, such as putting a bounty on Grums and even Asmongold. A bounty over a game being censored. WTF?! And yet folks like Alyssa want to hide behind the "I was harassed and threatened" defense. Show us the proof then? And even if that was the case, just because you were hurt doesn't mean you and folks like you are justified in attacking these individuals the way that you have. And especially when you're so hypocritical about Stellar Blade with say Hades 2. What I see is that Alyssa is salty. Salty over the fact her industry is declining. Salty that folks, like Asmongold, Grums, Clownfish everyone here get more engagement and notoriety than she did. To the point, where she had to go on a podcast to another TH-cam channel whois just as sad with his progressive pushes which barely gain any traction. All in all, there's a reason why gamers do not care about these "journalists". They are activists who are pissed that their power; their control that they've had since 2014 is slipping quickly. Being eroded due to economic forces and the widespread nature of the Internet and influencers. To those who are mad at me who are within that space I have a few words: pound sand.
Alyssa Mercante is certainly one of those reasons nobody likes Kotaku anymore.
For people like Mercante, it's not about right or wrong, it's about control. She sees herself as part of the system, she has influence over companies to the extent that she can get them jumping through hoops to please her and her faction and she hates seeing someone from outside of that cozy little publisher-journalist relationship being able to get something done. If SHE had come up with the idea, let's say it had occurred to her the the people unable to create PSN accounts are mostly POCs and she'd put a racist spin on it, then she'd be singing the complete opposite tune. She doesn't give a shit about gamers, POC or otherwise, of course, it's all just about her own power.
I kind of think that this is a gamergate kind of thing where it's a gamer vs major corpos. Now the biggest reason why gamers won this time is that alot of places can't play, now if Sony actually operated globally there still would be a backlash and that review bomb would still be similar because the game worked fine until they mandated the login. They lied about the change being for "safety" and they antagonized the gamers.
She's not genuinely angry. She's engagement farming.
If she actually want some form of true happiness, she should get engaged.

By the way, if you want to open up a PSN account in Europe, they want either biometric data by providing a face scan or a copy of your ID Card. This is some serious data they are asking for and there is no way customers are going to bend to that. And refusing access to a product after purchase until you provide such data is straight illegal in my country.
