THAT'S WHY THEY CALL HIM: "EL REY DE LAS MANOS DURAS". EXCEPTIONAL PLAYER, DIRECTOR, PERCUSSIONIST, LEADER, ARRANGEMENT, ETC. ALWAYS LIKES PERFECTION AND ALSO WAS ABLE TO IMPROVISED, IF YOU WASN'T THERE, YOU WAS LOST ON THE COUNTS.

This man it was just the best. People that are not musicians or percusionist or even lots of good talents out there do not understand that is not who is the faster or hits the hardest or how many drums. Is only one simple element and that is call rhythm. Now to add a few more adjectives. Is to be UNIQUE CREATIVE and SEND A MESSAGE WITH THE INSTRUMENT. Barreto which I get to have a few conversations in New York, never says about himself that He was the best. But was very strict to have the best quality in his presentations. How many conga players had the mix like He does in the past. All the cuban pioneers did not have the New York swing. They were more into all cuban rythms which Ray of course was influence in particular Chano Pozo and one of his best friend back in the day Mongo Santamaria. Giovani Hidalgo is consider the G.O.A.T, but if you ask him who was his inspiration He flat out tell you Ray Barreto. And his other mentors like Patato, Tata and his personal mentor and Friend Changuito. Ray is the only of 6 latinos or 5 I am not sure that are in the Hall of Fame of the Jazz called NEA. Ray use to say that Latin Jazz is not the correct concept that it should be called Jazz with Latino. He use to say that Jazz is just American. Basically to add the conga drums and other percusion intruments is an addtion. Is similar when Tito Puente use to hate the world salsa. He use to say that is ketchup not a music category. Even that I understand his point that what is called salsa is cuban music as foundation. But I do not agreed. I feel that salsa is a good name because if you listen to any group of cuban bands compare to Puerto Rico and New York you can not tell me is the same. Salsa is like a sofrito a mix of all those cuban ingridientes mix with the pop, soul rock boogaloo and others and came out like that, just listen to Fania All Stars and that is all you need to know. Just my opinion. At the end the puertorican musicians always give the credit to Cuba origins. Africa is the Grandmother Cuba is mother and NEw Yord all the children that spread all over the world.

And one more thing. When I see all these opinions who was the best I compare that with beautiful women or men. Each has a unique tone or beauty so it depends on what is that you like the most. Speed, show man, recording arranger. Now you always need to have top list of course. Now the former drummer of Mongo Santamaria, was ask that question, Who is or was the best conguero of all times. He gave the best answer ever when he said...Each one of the masters has a unique style and approach so in reality you cannot tell. Now some has more skills in terms of speed. Others as a complete package because some of the best never had their own groups. So again pick your favorite. My is was and always will be Ray Barreto. Is like everyone say Michael Jordan is the Greatest but my favorite is was and still is Larry Bird. See my point.

Je comprend pas pourquoi il faut être assis pour écouté la musique. C'est toxic quelque part. Tu dance parce que sa te fait vibrer. Perso moi assis sur une chaise non merci.
