I'm not fond of changing oil, but I always did it in the past just to protect myself against shoddy work. With my past vehicles, I encountered instances when the dealer overtightened the drain plug or filter, or overfilled by a drastic amount. Once i had to call the service manager to ask how it was even possible that they overfilled by about a quart and a half. He explained they used an automatic bulk filler that was supposed to be set by the tech for each vehicle. Apparently the tech had failed to adjust it for my particular vehicle. I had to drain out the excess before taking the vehicle out on the road again. My CRV is my first vehicle that I have been taking to the dealer for oil changes. I wasn't fond of having to deal with the bottom panel, and since I'm getting older I felt it was time to make the change. But your experience is making me wary. I'll try to make a habit of inspecting the vehicle in the days after future oil changes.

My theory in my case is that the tech started to screw in the drain plug, but then received a text message or social media alert on his or her phone. After being distracted by the phone, the tech then proceeded to put the bottom panel back on without tightening the drain plug. But that's just my guess, and I could be wrong. Thanks for watching and commenting!
