    I took your advice here 8 months ago and I'm so glad I did. I've been in the same league ever since and every race is so much better than any iRacing official race. Completely agree with everything in this video, thanks!

    You've described me quite well!
    Started with official only racing and six years later my most enjoyable racing is now in a variety of leagues.
    Some provide fun series, some are championships, some provide both. All together they provide me the ability to 'sharpen my saw' amongst fellow drivers who you get acquainted with.
    Thanks for explaining what I do better than I could!

    I love when my heart starts beating at 150 beats a minute cuz I know the guy in front of me is super aggressive for no reason and I'm about to try and pass em without dying. it's super immersive. I run an old 1280x1024 monitor and a G27, and even sometimes forget it's just a sim.

    The thing about getting to know your rivals is so true. Witnessed this yesterday, as I had to fight off P4 for the last 10 minutes of the race and he literally was 0.2 behind on the line.

    • @dannyleeracing
      @dannyleeracing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It really makes it so satisfying when, over an 8 or 12 race season or whatever, you just have an on-track rival who you somehow always find a way to be battling with. The fighting means so much more when you recognise the names and have a history.

    • @angryginger791
      @angryginger791 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For sure! And I think it cleans up the driving a lot too. Even if there were no stewards, most people don't want to be known as a dirty racer. If they pull something shady in one race, they may have a target on their back the rest of the season. I've had battles that lasted almost the entire race. In one, the guy got desperate and tried a risky move which didn't go as planned. He ended up spinning me, but instead of just driving on like most in officials would, he pulled off and gave me the position back so we could continue our battle. At that point, neither of us cared about our end result. We only cared about "our" race. I'd say that's in the top 3 of my favorite races, and I think I finished like 18th. LOL!

    I drove many league races in some leagues. It was always interesting and great communitiy. But one thing I love official races in iracing more at the moment is, that you race against racers with similar skills. In league racese you always have some "aliens" and no chances against them. I won my second oval race this week in an offical race. Never could win in a league race. In leagues I always raced in the back half of the field.
    I can understand you and can tell it is a experience you will not miss when you race in a league. But for me, the possibility to win a race in an official race or race in top position is more worth then the advanteges of al league, at the moment.

    • @dannyleeracing
      @dannyleeracing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know what you mean - most leagues divide the field into Pro, Pro Am and Am categories like real life GT fields do but yes, winning a race outright is a real challenge in a league race

    Spec-5 World Tour is a weekly league and they currently have Slow Motion Broadcasting doing their races on TH-cam. It's a good league - good competition, but also they have good race stewardship. Go into iRacing and apply to the league if you want to join. Every thing Danny said is spot on - what I don't like about the official series is the difficulty in policing bad behavior and leagues can do a little or a lot to control this.

    The biggest problem I have in open lobbies are I drive clean with respect and I expect the people I am racing against to do the same.
    When a car runs me down from seconds behind me I know for a fact they are quicker than me and when they catch me I will let them go in a way that cost me less time lost.
    What most people will do is drive the wheels off the car and end up wrecking then selfs and maybe you as well as just postponing the same end result of being passed.
    A lot of people have no interest in the actual dynamics of racing.

    I'm glad I have local leagues to join to live my passion, and all of this doesn't have to happen in iRacing either. Whether it's AC, ACC, RF2, AMS, any league is better as you'll be racing with the same kind of people, even across seperate leagues! Take the journey. :)
    I'll join Asian league races in iRacing probably a year later; I have plenty of RF2 leagues to compete on, but I'll consider the options and ask around.

    I love league racing, but since pretty much every sim allows me to do it, I usually run them on sims like AMS1 or rFactor 2 where I can run mods and have more options. The solo appeal of iRacing for me is having a decent ranked system. Still, 100% agree on the joys of league racing, I only do it in a different platform.

    I'm a little late to see this video. I'm that guy. I've been racing AI and hotlaping for a year, to make sure I was "good enough" to not ruin someone else's race, let alone keep myself alive.
    Practice has become a kind of procrastination, letting me avoid messing up someone else's race while reinforcing that I'm not good enough.

For example if I was looking for a Skip Barber league I would search TH-cam for 'Skip Barber Series' and order by upload date so you can find the most recently active broadcasts and events - might take a bit of sniffing but you'll find something. The most popular series types are seemingly GT3/GT4/F3 eta. Otherwise try looking on the iRacing forums under the Leagues / Hosted Races section.
