  • Bayraktar TB2
    From the war between Armenia & Azerbaijan to the on on-going Russia-Ukraine war, The Bayraktar TB2 tactical UAV has been quite in news. Currently, 257 Bayraktar platforms are in service with Turkey, Qatar, Ukraine and Azerbaijan.
    The UAV has been developed by Turkish firm Baykar Technologies. Bayraktar TB2 is a Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE), Tactical Unmanned Aerial Vehicle capable of conducting Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) and armed attack missions.
    The UAV has Operational Altitude of 18,000 Feet & max altitude of 25,000 Feet with endurance of Max 27 Hours. It features Fully Automatic Flight Control and 3 Redundant Autopilot System (Triple Redundant), Fully Automatic Landing and Take-off Feature Without Dependence on Ground Systems, Navigation with Internal Sensor Fusion Without Dependency on GPS.
    Bayraktar TB2 holds the record in the Turkish aviation history for endurance (with 27 hours 3 minutes) and for altitude (with 25,030 feet). It has speed between 70 knot - 120 knot.
    The UAV has payload capacity of 150 kg and carry 4 Laser Guided Smart Ammunition. It can also carry ISR payloads such as Switchable EO/IR/LD or Multi-Purpose AESA Radar.
    Bayraktar TB2 in Russia Ukraine war
    The Bayraktar TB2 has also been extensively used during the Russia Ukraine war and become a symbol of Ukrainian resistance against Russia. Ukrainian Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov revealed in late June that Ukraine has received 50 UAVs from Baykar since Russia’s February 24 invasion. Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2 drone was even seen during a rehearsal of a military parade for Independence Day in Ukraine in August 2021.
    In early days of Russia Ukraine war, The Ukrainian military officer Valery Zaluzhny has also said that two TB2s neutralized $26.5 million in Russian military assets in just three days.
    By late June 2022, Ukraine had lost a lot of TB-2 UAVs, evident by the scores of photos and videos published by pro-Russian and Russian government accounts on social media. The initial tactical success of the UAV soon started to fall apart in the contested air space.
    Once a celebrated UAV, has completely been out action. What has changed?
    On 10th April 2023, the Russian media outlet TASS has reported that more than 100 Bayraktar-TB2 drones, supplied to Ukraine, have been destroyed during the special operation.
    After Russia effectively deployed its electronic warfare and layered air defense systems the TB2 drones started to lose its effectiveness in the theater of operations. The electronic warfare developed by Russia has capabilities to disable and jam most GPS signals and highly encrypted radio frequencies which is required for the operation of UAVs.
    Russia has deployed various early warning radars which is used to determine the UAVs location. Their transmission is interfered with and jammed using electronic warfare weapons. Moscow also deployed variety of hard kill measures such as machine guns and air defense systems, like the Tor & Pantsir missile system, to shoot down UAVs. Russian Pantsir is reported to be one of the reasons of reluctance of US defense officials to send the costly MQ-1C Gray Eagle drones to Ukraine.

    Some corrections: Russia's or Ukraine's claims should be taken with a grain of salt as both of them are biased in this. Russia always claims that it has shot down more TB2s than Ukraine's entire stock while Ukraine undersells the losses. I wouldn't believe any loss without full visual evidence, and by that, I mean full view because there were several 'different' TB2 wreckages that were just the same wreckage transported to a different location.
    I mean at least 3 of the TB2 wreckage you have shown are from different places like Libya that I can recognize.
    TB2 isn't invincible of course but it's a freaking monster for the price. I wouldn't have believed that it can hunt a dedicated drone hunter anti-air system like Pantsir but there is a video of a TB2 destroying a Pantsir WHILE its radar was active.

    • @flykiller
      @flykiller ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Abhijeet Kundu Source? The closest news I found about this was Turkey backing out from building a TB2 factory in the war zone which you can see the reason for. There was no news about canceling orders. But even if it's true, it could be for any other reason. I mean, if UAVs with propellers are that bad why is your country still trying to buy overpriced Predators? 100 million for a piece? Really?

    • @flykiller
      @flykiller ปีที่แล้ว

      @Abhijeet Kundu First you claimed Ukraine canceled the order months ago, now you changed it to the very beginning of the war. Which is it? If it's all over the news like you claim it should be easy to share a single source right? Because my Google doesn't show even one news about that.
      And you are wrong. There were open-source TB2 deliveries into Ukraine even after months after the start of the war.
      Why are you talking about air-to-air? Everyone knows neither Predators nor TB2s were designed for that. And Turkey did use TB2s successfully in locations with active anti-air systems. You keep talking about how shitty TB2 is and how great Predator but all I see from their actions of them say the opposite. Just less than a month ago a TB2 survived a Russian Su-27 jet wash after a Predator was downed by a Russian jet (how are they still active TB2s if Ukraine canceled new orders very beginning of the war and Russia shot down over 100 TB2s?). I didn't see any Predator destroying anti-air systems (it has armed versions) but TB2 destroyed more than one Pantsir while its radar is active. So? Just because it's more expensive doesn't mean more effective. Whatever makes Predator so 'advanced' doesn't seem to translate well into effective combat usage...

    Turkey’s unmanned aerial vehicle, the Bayraktar TB2, has been responsible for the destruction of hundreds of armored vehicles and even air defense systems in Syria, Libya, and elsewhere, the UK’s defense secretary said on Friday.
    “The roots of these drones are born out of Turkish innovation,” Ben Wallace said in a webinar organized by the Royal United Services Institute for Defense and Security Studies (RUSI), a British security think tank.
    “Prevented from gaining access to exquisite foreign programs, they [Turkey] did what we used to do so well - they innovated.”
    Wallace said the Turkish drone has the capability to present “real challenges to the enemy.”
    “The TB2 and its accompanying munitions combine technical abilities with an affordability that means their commanders can tolerate some attrition while presenting real challenges to the enemy,” he said.
    Wallace also delved into the changing landscape of global conflicts and the threats faced by the UK today.
    “We have a tendency in the West to divide conflict between war fighting (the violent activity of a ‘proper’ so-called shooting war) and the sub-threshold (everything before the shooting starts), when in fact today’s conflict is carried out through typically non-violent but undoubtedly hostile activities,” he explained.
    “This division might give comfort to our ‘rule of law’ approach, but it drives a static war and peace disposition. This makes us deeply vulnerable to those that don’t play by the same rules, especially below the threshold.”
    He stressed that strides made by the UK’s adversaries “in new domains and their investment choices aren’t by accident.”
    “They are a result of a studied approach to our strengths and weaknesses. They are fluid, we are static. They use readiness, innovation and presence, while we remain entirely predictable in our processes and posture,” the British official said.
    “In truth they are masters of the sub-threshold while we tie ourselves up in self-imposed risk matrixes, contradictory legal frameworks, and often bureaucratic barriers.”
    ‘We must move with the threat’
    On evolving security threats in the world, Wallace said the use of “cyber, organized crime, electronic warfare, proxy fighters and disinformation can be seen on every continent.”
    He laid out examples in the UK’s history of failing to modernize defense, pointing out instances of officers “dismissing new technologies, or failing to recognize that the battlefield had changed before their very eyes.”
    “In 1921 the First Lord of the Admiralty, Lord Lee argued for the abolition of the submarine … Many will be familiar with the reported quotes of Field Marshal [Douglas] Haig who argued that the value of the horse would be as great as ever,” he said.
    “There are, in fact, too many examples and while some of the quotes I use may exaggerate those historic failures, the sobering fact remains that many of us are still not leading the way, but watching others do so.”
    Emphasizing the need for the UK to review its approach to defense, Wallace warned: “The threat has moved, and we must move with it.”
    “I do believe that we are no longer leading and innovating enough. We are in danger of being prepared only for the big fight that may never come, whilst our adversaries might choose to outflank it even if it does.”
    that is the story....told by British minister.NO MORE COMMENTS

    In late May, satellite images revealed the presence of one Bayraktar TB2 at PAF’s Murid Airbase. The exercise on September 28 was the first official documented usage of Pakistan’s Bayraktar TB2s.The PAF also fields the Akinci which is a high-altitude, long-endurance UAV. 44 PAF officials are already trained to fly these deadly killing machines. Bharat is not Rossiya, it doesn't matter if the impressive EW and anti aircraft capabilities of Rossiya can shoot down these drones. Bharat's antiquated, WW2 era obsolete junk can't take out a mosquito. Electronic warfare capacity is also a joke. Bharat has neither modern anti aircraft guns or EW deployed at the border. Himshakti which is a mature capacity the DRDO has developed to jam n spoof drones are available in a grand total of two. Two for thousands of kms of border. 2-300 would be needed to provide coverage of the entire border. In addition, the DRDO SPAAG which can shoot down drones is still stuck in development hell and is years away from deployment with no urgency given at all. The only action the army can take is order Himshakti and its successor systems in quantity. 2-300 not 2. And accelerate induction of DRDO SPAG-GMS, this cannot be allowed to go the same way as most major military procurement. Currently IA is already deploying radars all across, so at least detection of drones is the only area where there is solid coverage. It doesn't matter if you see them if you can't shoot them down! Its price and success have been proven worldwide..We Turks sold TB 2 to the world, created an eco-system and R&D, earned billions of dollars and produced super advanced top class aircraft thanks to TB 2.. we never said tb2 is unstoppable or such things .. you are a big country of 1.5 billion, stop comparing yourself to us and look at yourself in the mirror..

      Hey brother, we respect your country's contribution in drone industry.. I myself am a big fan of how TFX fighter is going on..
      But we do not compare ourself with yours, both of us have different scenarios:
      1. Your country realised mass production in Defence and Aeronautical sector, but our country was in a "Corrupt & Communistic" influence for over 6 decades [1950-2010]... so much that even development of airports came with SCAMS and CONTROVERSIES
      2. By the time your country's drone industry was flourishing, my country's drone industry was waiting for approval like 15 years... that's how Negligent our government was..
      3. The time where your government was deciding on TFX fighter jet was in papers, our country's deal with Russia came at a standstill for difference of opinions when developing FGFA (SU-57).. AMCA didn't even exist in the first place
      INDIA is developing its own Aeronautical sector and Defence sector after change of government in late 2010s... the government of NARENDRA MODI
      Truth be told....There is always a conflict of opinions between INDIANS & TURKISH because TURKEY stands with PAKISTAN who is remembered to provide safehavens to the TERRORISTS... that situation hasn't been resolved to this day....
      Just try trusting INDIANS a bit... France was like you & was before assisting Pakistan, but when FRANCE came in the INDIANS earned respect and frienship from them.. the deal of Turbomeca Shakti 1H1 is one of those proofs..

    Bayraktar TB2 is the cheapest and simplest drone produced in Turkey. If ignoring or belittling TB2's achievements on the battlefield makes you feel good, continue ignoring it. With Akinci, Anka, Aksungur and Kızıl Elma, Turks have become one of the biggest Drone powers in the world. To deny this is simply stupidity.

  • @ksriri
    @ksriri ปีที่แล้ว

    Well it's not a surprise considering the altitude of operation and the speed of the drone. Common at a maximum altitude of 5kms with Max Speed of 130 and kmph it's a cake walk for any average to decent Air Defence.
    But, the Ukrain has used them in missions to counter tanks and armoured vehicles and in addition to that they have been used to target Russian hideouts. So I would it's not the drones that were effective but the forces that use them to it's full effect. I mean don't take me wrong, Russia is a strong side but no tanks or Assault riffle is going to destroy a drone flying at 5km altitude.
    Now that the Russian forces are aware of it this trick is not gonna fly as Russia has equipped the border military forces with AAG (Anti Aircraft Guns). And to my knowledge seeing the recent events the West will eventually get tired of supplying arms at some point sooner or later.
    But now, NATO does not need Ukraine as they have Finland which is situated right along the Russian borders
