      I think most anything should be reliable after being on the market for over a decade. I don't see how this is an accomplishment as much as it's to be expected. If they can build an actual NEW model and keep that same level of reliability, it will be far more impressive.

    We are on our third GX460 and the 2022/23 MY are hands down the best versions of itself. All of the modern tech and safety features one could ask for, solid build construction, reliable drivetrain, off-road chops with little mods needed to truly make it a force off-rod and an insane aftermarket that continues to grow. This will go down as the most reliable 4WD SUV in it's segment (the 4Runner is right there but the GX is better in nearly every way) for it's time and I am willing to bet that they will be sought after for many years to come and consequently hold their value on the secondary market quite well.
    All of that said, we will eventually own one of the new GX550's, most likely in the second or third year, gotta let them work out the bugs and let the hype and markups wear off.

    Another great review. Been strongly considering the GX for three years. Recent 2024 Lexus picture sneak peeks suggest a more rugged, more muscular-looking, off-road-performing vehicle. The general wisdom is to wait at least one year after a complete redesign...putting the wait to 2025. If you need a vehicle now, would you recommend getting a 2023 GX460 now and possibly trading it in for a 2025/2026 GX550 in the future, taking a chance now on a first-year 2024 GX redesign, or would you go with a different vehicle now and get a GX 550 at some later date (your Pathfinder review was excellent and very positive - while a very different vehicle, rented one recently for a family trip and was a great vehicle). Wondering how strong the future resale value of a 2023 GX460 will be if the 2024 GX550 redesign is extremely popular (and has better acceleration/torque/mpg).

    • @firstlast8281
      @firstlast8281 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Do not get the 2024 if it’s based on reliability alone. The next gen engine has already shown issues within the Tundra with rod bearing and turbo wastegate failures. Issues that require body off frame $30,000 (warranted) repairs. Look it up.
      Of course, the new GX will have “Lane Tracing Assist” aka basically fully autonomous highway driving, a single feature that alone might make it worth braving the risk of a new model year purchase.
      I was in the same boat and decided on a 2023 GX “Premium-Plus” package. I f’ng love it and am excited about driving it until any issues get sorted out with the next generation and I’m comfortable with the idea of buying one. Just my humble opinion.

    The 2024 GX will not be available until January at the earliest, and then, in limited numbers! As with any re-design, the new 2024 GX will have issues not foreseen by the engineers and of course, user feedback will warrant changes too. The new GX will be fully flushed out in 2025 or so. The 2024 GX spec numbers just released provide the 2024 GX with a 16 mpg from a twin-turbo V^ with 10 speed transmission! That is not good at all. The new 2024 will also be $5 - $10K higher in price - inflation and supply chain don't you know! If new fancy electronic upgrades do not matter to you and your driving and comfort are the important things- buy the 2023 V* while you can still buy these old school V8 butter-smooth babies! I just bought my 2023 GX knowing that the 2024 GX would be a V6 Turbo and 10 spreed trans and a minimum 6 month wait and I am very happy with my new purchase. Simpler is better!

    The current GX being a "luxury" SUV has grossly outdated interior technology, gaudy grill that makes modding difficult, and the low tuned V8 is so heavy that it is barely quicker than the V6 4Runner and the added V8 weight will lead to some steering component damage, during off road use. The GX sucks compared to everything it competes with. I drive a Range Rover that I update every 4 years, so do not care if the engine will last 500k miles. No luxury brand buyer keeps vehicles for more than 3 to 4 years lol. My supercharged 4Runner is much better and quicker.
    The next gen GX will be 110% better, having modern technology and even more power in the much lighter detuned version of the 3.4 V6 turbo used by the Land Cruiser 300 and new Tundra. It will be even more reliable than the current Land Cruiser 300 Series, because it is lighter. It will be the best GX ever and finally be the vehicle I swap my 4Runner for!

      This is such a foolish take. I’m also a Land Rover/Jaguar owner & have wasted so much time at the dealership on recalls & dumb issues! Why wouldn’t you want a reliable vehicle & the Lexus is not outdated in terms of interior quality. Range Rover media console is glitchy AF, sometimes backup camera doesn’t turn on & screen goes dark when turned on. It’s also not true that people don’t keep luxury cars for more than 3 to 4 years. Who wastes their money like that

      @@Takeiteasy11 The foolish take is thinking those of us that buy luxury vehicles are seeking "reliability" when we don't intend to keep it longer than 3 or 4 years😂. Range Rovers and the most common SUV, where I live. GXs are something you bash around off road or winter driver. Just like 4Runners, but the GX breaks parts, off road, because of the heavier engine lol
      I owned a GX and traded it for a Range Rover because the GX was trash compared to every other luxury brand i have been in and owned. Jurassic age infotainment. Heavy V8 that is detuned, making the GX power to weight terrible, making it a sluggish, thirsty dinosaur, that sucks compared to segment rivals. It even handles like a dinosaur🤣
      You comment section bandwagon riders are clueless lol. Reliable this reliable that. No luxury buyer cares😂

      @@lunamaria1048 I have had a 2017 RR Sport SVR along with my 2013 RR Supercharged. I like the Rover sports a lot, but IF you want a car with no problems and you can keep forever, than you can't beat the GX. I wish it had more power, besides that I am good with the tech cause it has a great Levinson stereo. In the new GX550 to turn the fan up and down you have to hit the screen??? Newer technology is not always better especially when it comes to replacing buttons with screen taps. There is a place for both. I fully agree if you are flipping a car every 2-3 years, don't worry about reliability. I do both. I flip fun cars and keep others long term. My 2013 RR sport has 140k miles on it, but I have dropped about $4k in the last 4 years to keep it running. I do love the car though as I do an old school GX.

      @@ms8742 My pint is that those of us who buy Range Rovers like my Autobiography aren't looking for long lasting. Range Rovers are the fastest depreciating vehicle on the market, so we trade off every 4 to maybe 5 years. They run perfect if serviced properly, especially for 4 years! The 2013 RR Sport was definitely the best looking generation for the Sport! My mother had a 2013! I miss that exterior look and dislike the new RR Sport because it simply looks like they got lazy and took the front half of a Velar and rear half of a Discovery and stuck them together. It has lost that distinct aggressive RR Sport styling that made the Sport so special. Many RR Sport purists are a bit unhappy, but I guess we will see how it goes!
      I only dislike the current GX because of the old tech and the front grill/bumpers make it impossible to use off road, which is exactly what I buy Toyota/Lexus for, is to use off road. Reliable or not. However, yesterday I made my reservation for the 2024 GX 550. It is absolutely beautiful and has a proper body-on-frame. Toyota was shocked by the Defenders success so made the new GX to compete directly! I absolutely love it!

They recommended the Michelin Defender, so I'll give them a try asap, and put the Dunlop's on marketplace!
