NOT A JOKE! We have crazy nasty mosquitoes in Phoenix right now. I made this yesterday using the mist sprayer from Harbor Freight, and sprayed my entire large patio, driveway, and front walk. I then got a bit cocky and went out last night on the patio shirtless, scared out of my mind, but nothing happened. I stayed on the patio near the house at the dining table, and thoroughly enjoyed myself mosquito-free. GAME CHANGER! Thanks Paul Harvey! "PAGE TWO..."

Ratios are good so you can make smaller or bigger:
      a) Mint mouthwash 16 ounces (455 grams) (1/2 Mason Jar)
      b) Epsom salts - 3 cups (cup is 8 ounces = 24 ounces (700 grams)
      c) Flat beers - 36 ounces of stale beer (= 1 liter/1000 grams)
      Place in sprayer
      RATIO (approx):
      a) 2

Hey Paul. Thanks for sharing this recipe. I moved into my new property a home that I built. Little did I know that I have a pond beside me. Last summer, we couldn’t bear sitting on the lanai. This year. I waged a war on mosquitoes. In April 2024 I saw a video online where a gentleman was showing how he killed millions of mosquitoes. I basically bought four black pails. Then went online on Amazon and bought the mosquito dunks. I placed all four pails on the perimeter of the property. I then purchased mosquito barrier and I have sprayed three times. The mosquito dunks in the pales is basically killing the ecosystem of the mosquitoes. It’s like neutering, a dog and cat. We have had over a dozen barbeques in our backyard by the poolside. And all I hear is where are the mosquitoes. Something you may want to try. I am going to go and purchase your items tomorrow and I will get back to you on my report, as the mosquito barrier that I purchase is very expensive. But it does work.

OMG! It worked! My front porch and patio has been terrible for months now. I've been trying all kinds of things including coils, thermacells, multiple insecticides, citronella torches, lotions, bug zapper light and was still being eaten alive. I saw this video and had everything already on hand. Used Miller High Life beer, Sam's Club Epsom salt(so cheap there... $9.98 for 14lbs) and Colgate mint mouthwash(same blue color as what he used). I've been sitting out here for an hour after hosing down my porch and patio area and their perimeter and I haven't seen one single mosquito. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for sharing! LOVE IT! Will this mosquito brew stain pressure treated wood? I'm just wondering if I should spray on the grass surrounding our deck or on the deck edges. I am definitely going to give this a try in addition to using mosquito dunks to help curb their breeding. I may try spraying the perimeter of our back yard with this concoction but our yard fairly large at 80 ft wide by 100 ft deep. We back up to a forest and the mosquitos are so bad this year (even in the afternoon), that it is tough to be outside at all. Spraying ourselves with OFF insect repellant helps but it simply doesn't last very long.

VERY IMPORTANT: substitute one non alcohol beer for one of the real beers. The Epsom salt will not dissolve in alcohol so mix the Epsom salt with the flat non alcohol beer before adding it to mint mouthwash and real beers. I just used NA beer cause that's what was on hand.

I had popped the tabs on the (regular) beer and had it sitting in cans inside the jug I'd be mixing it in. It was about a week before I had the opportunity to get back to it, so I wonder if in that time the alcohol dissipated? Anyway, I had a very easy time mixing the Epsom salt into just the beer alone, then added in the mouthwash. Wanted to put that out there for anyone who had regular beer around in case they didn't want to make a special purchase of the nonalcoholic type. Did not get bit once as I sprayed my whole yard (small but a lots o' mosquito property) so I'm hopeful this is a success.

The beer has alcohol in it. The mouthwash has mint and alcohol in it. Mint repels a lot of bugs and alcohol will kill mosquitoes if sprayed on them. Hi, I am living in the tropics. Getting Epsom salt is not easy, so I ordered it from USA anyway for my garden and bodycare (really expensive because of the extra delivery). The mouthwash costs about 7 dollar here. A can of beer costs like 50 cents, so this is the only cheap one. I think, you can replace the mouthwash by a solution with peppermint essential oil or even selfmade mint in alcohol, because it is the mint that is important. What I really don´t get, is the meaning of the beer. Beer attracs bugs. If I leave an half empty bottle over night, I always find it full of flies and bugs in the morning. So I really try to find out if I could replace the beer with water and alcohol and replace the mouthwasch with a mint-alc solution (like I use for my body against moscitos.) Also inside use with that sticky mouthwasch and beer would not be recomendable. :D Has anyone tried to modificate this reciept?

Thanks for your question. I grew up in Liberia, West Africa on the equator and the humidity and bugs were horrible when you got away from the ocean and salt breeze. The epson salt is probably very important. I personally did not originate this recipe, Paul Harvey did to my best knowledge unless someone here can find otherwise. I've used ovee a decade and it works great for me. Never modified it. I live in rural Tennessee and the humidity is bad here but the bugs are worse, as i often have told my wife. Maybe some of our viewers followers habe modified? Good luck and sorry about the cost, our world has gone mad everything is expensive now!!

It goes a long way and if you end up not using the double batch this summer, it loses its efficacy next year after sitting around. It gets kind of sticky and hard to apply.
