Can't tell you how glad I am to have found you guys on TH-cam! As an 18 year old in carpenters school you guys teach me enough to impress my teachers! My dream is to work on a crew like yours building customs. Lots of love from Canada!
I think the @PerkinsBuilderBrothers have a future intern! Working in construction myself (though on the support-side, my 'tree killing' is a hobby 😉), I love to see young people learning trades!
I've never been more interested in flashing. Thanks Jamie! You could write a children's book about flashing.. "Think like a drop of water". Keep up the great job.
THIS -- Jaime (Jamie?) installing roof flashing UNDER the existing woodwork, not to mention everyone taking the time to do all the specialty cuts -- is the reason 'stick-built' houses and/or custom-built houses are SO MUCH BETTER than a development house of any age. Plus, having a crew this talented makes all the difference, too. :D
I just found your channel about 2 weeks ago. You all have made me remember how much I loved framing and building houses!! While I started with framing at 17 in 1995, and have continued my career to Heavy Industrial construction as management, your channel makes me think about getting back into residential!! Your quality work is exactly how I was taught from my boss. I love how you all explain why you take the extra steps to make your projects last longer than ode built houses!! You all think about other crafts and the longevity of of craftsmanship!! Thank you for the enjoyment me and your viewers get from your videos and knowledge!!
After many years of fixing roof leaks even on newly installed roofs I can appreciate the attention to detail and forethought of how everything ties together. Water will always find a way unless everything is weaved together just right and most guys are in a big hurry to just get it done and it can be very time consuming to do it properly.
You guys really have found the unicorn...a job you love with people you love working with.....I'm 58 years old and I learn something in every video. Keep 'em coming!
I love whenever you show and work on flashing details. I think this is an under considered detail in house construction and is very very very difficult to fix afterwards
Attention to detail when building a house is like making fine furniture. The time spent on the hidden details, that no one will ever see (but you know are there) is what turns any structure into long-lasting work of art and home.
Your attention to flashing detail, siding angle cuts and waterproofing is spectacular. If I ever get to build another house, I hope Perkins Brothers can build it for me!
I really appreciate all the thought and care that goes into your work! I also love the positive vibe of this crew: watching your channel is like hanging out with builder buddies (who I never actually met)! Thanks for all this!
My dormer has been leaking for years when the wind blows; I have tried everything to fix it. I think what you outlined in the video will be the solution. Thanks!
6:14 Thanks for this. I literally have this same exact thing going on with my roof. Every spring, when the snow thaws, my patio door gets flooded, and for the life of me I couldn't figure out where the heck the water was coming from, but your explanation makes sense. Will have to fix it the way you explained.
I want you guys all the time with my husband. All I have to say is too bad you weren’t around to build the titanic! It would’ve never sank! You guys are awesome!
That is the difference between a custom home builder who not only cares ; but in the case of even flashing it’s customized! That is a true talented pair of brothers! Jamie & Eric if I lived there I would beg you every day for a job ! I am a finish carpenter/ cabinet builder! However ; just to let you know I was told by a trim carpenter in East Texas ( home of Sasquatch) I am considered framing because I build cabinets ? Oh & I don’t even need a tape measure?
A friend is a third or fourth generation sheet metal worker and his dad's house, his dad had all the window sills done in sheet metal and edges lock edged and soldered as well as the chimney top,the transition boards entering the house, but when I saw the homemade drip edging with notched and embossed designs it was just WOW, hopefully any new owner will notice it and keep it as most nowadays don't bother with custom crap(in a goodway) like that..
Love your Construction and Vids 🤠 Also wanted to give you a "Pro Tip".. For all the times I've seen you having problems getting vehicle wheel traction on hillsides. Simply deflate the tires to 15-25 PSI. Will solve most slippage problems!!
Well, don't tell anyone but I actually got excited about that flashing. Having had to deal with a leak recently around a sky light and seeing how shoddy the flashing was, this was so enjoyable to see how real pros take care of things. Actually, you're more than pros. Pros that truly give a poo about doing things above and beyond "good enough". Really enjoy your work. Thank you.
Hey Jamie, Stop clipping those wire nails loose from the rack. Twist the first nail and use the rack as a nail holder while you hammer it in place. As you hammer it in, the wire will pop right loose. Saves your fingers!
Another awesome video from you guys. Just love Jay's talk lol. Well done Eric on a fine edit. As a fellow builder and youtuber awesome to watch as always 👍👍🙏🙏🙏🇹🇭
Love the artistry of your work. With those up and under pieces you’re sealing and then hoping to paint later, why don’t you have a small tin/brush handy and painting it before attaching. I was always taught, with timber, always do to the backside that you do to the front. Keep the videos coming.
It looks like the slope of the roof is shallow enough water could follow the underside of the roof. The way the outriggers plane in with the siding and trim it creates a natural channel right to the roof system
ahh nice, new video good to see you all again... I have to tell you something, listen... When you cut thin galvanized sheets with tin snips, The red protection provided by the zinc also works on the cut surface, because zinc has an electrochemical effect, Zinc is smeared there and the edges dry quickly anyway. If you cut the sheets with the flex, The zinc burns on the cut surfaces and the corrosion protection is gone. When drilling it will be somewhere in between - I would rather drill slowly. Just a reminder.
I'm so jealous peryou guys look like you have so much fun at work. didn't anybody ever tell you that you're supposed to not enjoy your time at work? 👍 .
Best bet, get the roof on THEN counter-flash it THEN side. You'll have a much better end product. Like Jaime stated, flashings matter as does nail placement on trim. MOST roofers I knew and know would cut and side up behind however the coverage might be JUST enough to be under the trim. Many re-installs especially on condos that are attached, we cut the siding and installed ice and water shield, new flashings and a new trim board that had it's own counter-flashing. That was before I said "the heck with residential' and went commercial. I'm currently mostly retired and assist on 'problem jobs' for individuals, businesses as well as manufacturers who do not wish to dismiss a contractor and would rather I help teach them and get them through an inspection. I like this group (Perkin's Bros which I found when they did a collaboration with Stud-Pack a few months back), Jaime and his details.. Welp, details are the MOST important part of a job (safety second...maybe ;) )
I've watched every build. And it's funny how you start to think about things like "Which house do I like the best?" "Which one had the most interesting features?" etc. It's like I adopted these houses! LOL.
Regarding Jamie’s epicondylitis, I’ve learned that holding a smart phone ( palm up) and scrolling with thumb exacerbates the problem and if I hold phone in left hand and use right pointer finger to scroll and type it has allowed the inflammation process to slow or stop. Just an fyi.
I have a 12.5’ van mark metal brake as well. It’s an absolutely great tool and it’s extremely durable. I suggest to buy the trimcutter tool also, they’re about 400-500 dollars extra but definitely a must have
Being a tool guy but never a skilled worker like these guys, I always wanted the correct tool however I failed to account for getting OLD so I wound up at 78 (Now 80) with a small fortune of tools that I gave away or sold the big stuff worth probably for 15K$ for $1000 but but went to 2 friends so it's all good.
Guys you have the most fun and do an acceptable job!! Its good to laugh on and off the job. Respectfully, I hate to see them come to the end. Jamie becoming quite the standup, one day maybe get some side work at the local comedy club. Peace out brussel sprouts!!
If Ramel (sp?) is planning on making the top of the push out a catio, then I hope she has a tall ladder because she will probably want to check it occasionally for any "debris" that finds its way up there. I'm thinking, if her cats are like mine, the leavings of any critters they happen to catch. Chances are good they'll take them up there, where they can eat in peace.
I installed Hardie lap siding on my house. I used cedar for the trim. My point is you don't have to use cement fiber base as the trim. No question smartside and components are easier to "work" with, but you can't convince me they are better long term. I'll take fiber over LP in the medium/long term.
Hey guys! I’m in Canada and it is hard to find Lexel. I finally found some in a place called Home Hardware. This weekend, i will use Lexel for the first time and i can’t wait! All thanks to you!
When talking about siding not being seen from at the same time, we did the electrical work in a house and the brick layers must have been drunk. They never put measurements around the house. The result was when they came to the last corner the grout lines was off by half a brick
And that house build is when you realise you're a carpenter in the UK and own about a 10th of the Perkins brothers' knowledge. God, I'd work for them for free. (Hanging with Ray and jay must be fun too)

Can you guys make the next video
Dang it I've finally caught up on all the home build playlists... I'm so hooked I'd even watch an hour long series just on Jamie explaining flashing
Same #letjamietalk
It's a Us moment😅
Ahhh, Who wouldn’t!😅
Don’t even suggest it.
Same here. Love there energie #letjamietalk

That's a tshirt idea right there, "Think like a drop of water"
"Flashing for Children" Doesn't really sound right, does it?
Love how Jamie adapts his accent. Got real southern there for a bit
I noticed it too! I do the same thing.
“Chocolate covered OSB” 😂 love Builders Bars for a quick meal replacement and Jason’s description is accurate.
"Let Jason talk" that is a very specific joke that only long time fans will get. Love it!
"Be water, my friend" I love Jamie channeling Bruce Lee. Both masters of their craft.

Gene is the man! His dad actually built my first house in Florida back in the 60s.
‘Think like a drop of water’, that HAS to be on the new Perkins T-shirt
I wouldent mind seeing more of the guy with the iron worker. He's got a good vibe 😂
“The oceans blue, what are you talking about?” Love it Ray!
这个视频节目真的很棒,不单纯我喜欢看就连我的小孙子都喜欢看他还说特喜欢节目里的jimmy很帅。
I look forward to these two episodes a week than I do anything else.

If only every builder took as much pride in their work as your team. Great work as usual

Jamie is very intelligent. Love the new rental property.

Watching that siding sliver slide in was soooo satisfying. Way to go Arlo!
Jason is a amazing carpenter
He is
A friend is a third or fourth generation sheet metal worker and his dad's house, his dad had all the window sills done in sheet metal and edges lock edged and soldered as well as the chimney top,the transition boards entering the house, but when I saw the homemade drip edging with notched and embossed designs it was just WOW, hopefully any new owner will notice it and keep it as most nowadays don't bother with custom crap(in a goodway) like that..
Awesome flashing details but then Arlo with the notching detail at 16:45 lol wow... you guys are amazing, love this whole crew
Thanks guys for the tip on metal roof flashing and pro tip on the way you guys used it. My daughter and I will use this idea in our rentals.
The word Jay is looking for is 'Mickeyswishslick' for Ray and his mighty fine workmanship.
Love your Construction and Vids 🤠 Also wanted to give you a "Pro Tip".. For all the times I've seen you having problems getting vehicle wheel traction on hillsides. Simply deflate the tires to 15-25 PSI. Will solve most slippage problems!!
Love the metal break. When I was a window/door installer, we had a light version of the break that y'all used. That one looks like a beast! 😊
You guys are too cute & funny! Be kind to each other. Stay safe. Love to all
That flashing belongs in a museum.
That flashing machine your expert buddy has looks like the ones they used to bring to the job for aluminum siding years ago.
Jason “why do I drive across country and you park the car”, Mate, very funny..🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Your attention to detail is outstanding
You do a fantastic job on all of your builds ! I LOVE YOU GUYS !!!!
That piece of trim board at @17:20 was just insane. It really shows the attention to detail and quality you guys put into your work. Love to see it.
Should have just caulked it. Seriously.
The effort that goes into doing things correctly is amazing. Jamie is meticulous. He must count wood and flashing when he is going to sleep 😂😂😂
Well, don't tell anyone but I actually got excited about that flashing. I particularly loved this episode guys. Thanks
Evening from Scotland
Erik, just want to say I love your videos and editing style and truly appreciate the trail off with the music at the end!
Hey Eric and Jaime, you guys must come and work in South Africa... you guys will revolutionise the home building industry in this country!!! 😄
Another awesome video from you guys. Just love Jay's talk lol. Well done Eric on a fine edit. As a fellow builder and youtuber awesome to watch as always 👍👍🙏🙏🙏🇹🇭
The forethought with the nailing and the future flashing is great.
Love the artistry of your work. With those up and under pieces you’re sealing and then hoping to paint later, why don’t you have a small tin/brush handy and painting it before attaching. I was always taught, with timber, always do to the backside that you do to the front. Keep the videos coming.
Love How the Home owners gets to hang around without any issue...
Jaimie .... thinks like water! I flow along with that!
It looks like the slope of the roof is shallow enough water could follow the underside of the roof. The way the outriggers plane in with the siding and trim it creates a natural channel right to the roof system
Well help Jean out with his road..pay it back. Well done on that build.
Nice metal bender ! Those things are Heavy !
Jason was so proud of those details
ahh nice, new video good to see you all again... I have to tell you something, listen... When you cut thin galvanized sheets with tin snips,

I totally dig the details on that flashing, Jamie.

Jamie is a wonder thinking ahead guys listen and learn gets it right most of the time 😂😂😂

Eric listening to Eddie Benjamin - Emotional on the way to the job site... great choice in music!
Jamie is a genius
So much flashing 🤌🏾 great job with all the explanations. That’s why you guys are killing it.
Gold stars all around for the Perkins team!
Track saw on those lp rips will change your life

You guys are masterful builders with a wonderful sense of humor. I’m here for it all!!!
Guys you have the most fun and do an acceptable job!! Its good to laugh on and off the job. Respectfully, I hate to see them come to the end. Jamie becoming quite the standup, one day maybe get some side work at the local comedy club. Peace out brussel sprouts!!
Your Flashing are the bomb, waiting and waiting for your uploads
Jamie, the metal siding guy you need to call is Kyle over at RR Builders. None better my friend. I watch both of your channels every day.
th-cam.com/video/EkrV-HdBO10/w-d-xo.htmlsi=pgyvPmqL3LxUQnk4 pretty safe to say they know each other.
If Ramel (sp?) is planning on making the top of the push out a catio, then I hope she has a tall ladder because she will probably want to check it occasionally for any "debris" that finds its way up there. Another good one guys and looks like you are closing in on 1 million subscribers !!! congrats
I love to hear about the construction mishaps.
Pulling the truck into the garage after your buddies drove it cross country the whole way? Ah the "Perks" of being the boss! 🤣🤣🤣
Happy Birthday Eric!
always a start to a good day with a new perkins video!
I installed Hardie lap siding on my house. I used cedar for the trim. My point is you don't have to use cement fiber base as the trim. No question smartside and components are easier to "work" with, but you can't convince me they are better long term. I'll take fiber over LP in the medium/long term.
We could call you fellas, "Overflash" like a 80's band!!!!!!
I could watch these videos all day!
Blew my wife's mind at 8:33. She says "at it should be" lol. So yes your wife does watch your screen over your shoulder guys. lmao!!
Hey guys! I’m in Canada and it is hard to find Lexel. I finally found some in a place called Home Hardware. This weekend, i will use Lexel for the first time and i can’t wait! All thanks to you!
The house is really looking great!
I love how you guys build homes as if you're building them for yourselves. Chefs kiss 😙🤌

They never put measurements around the house. The result was when they came to the last corner the grout lines was off by half a brick
I had a roofer do the chimney flashing. Supposed to be level but it sloped half a brick. On the SAME FACE!! I made them do it over.
Nice episode. Can't wait for the completion of this house. #fanfromthephilippines
Best channel on TH-cam!
Jay said what we were all thinking about that siding board. “Quit touching it!”
AVETT BROTHERS!!!!! Woooo!
And that house build is when you realise you're a carpenter in the UK and own about a 10th of the Perkins brothers' knowledge. God, I'd work for them for free. (Hanging with Ray and jay must be fun too)
Greetings from the "old world" aka Europe :D
Great content! so relaxing to watch. always happy to see that you upload a episode
