When I first heard this song as a teenager not long after its release, I've held it very close to my heart. Why? This song was as if it was addressed to me and my peers my age personally. I grew up in Malaysia as a Chinese minority. My school was oppressive and so was my family. There were barely rooms to be myself and express myself physically, and the only thing that's left where my identity lies, is my hair. Schools in Malaysia forces you to cut it short as a male with no style and if caught, the teachers would cut your hair right in front of you. With no adult by your side to stand up for you, Lady Gaga did. Whenever I was caught by teachers with a longer than approved hair length, who would unapologetically snip them off, or my dad who would tell me I was selfish to want to be myself, I would mumble to myself and say, "I'm my hair...It's the glory that I bear. And I will never change it for anyone." And in the final days of my final high school years, I stood up for myself against teachers who want to lay a hand on my hair. I left with my hair untouched. Thank you Gaga. You gave me courage to stand up against oppression and fight for my right to express myself in a society that insists conformity and unquestionable obedience. My hair is my hair, and it represents my freedom.
I just graduated last year and I never allowed anyone to touch my hair as well and the teachers would always say a girl is not allowed to have an undercut...Malaysia still has a long way to go

I was in a really dark state of mind when it came out, I remember feeling so connected to a lot of the lyrics. Songs like Hair, BTW, Scheiße, Bad Kids, ect. they really spoke to me and comforted me when I felt down. It really helped me through the rest of my high school/teenage years, and I'll never forget it. Thank you, Gaga.

This song has a special place in my heart. As much as I am obsessed with Pokerface, Paparazzi, GUY, John Wayne and Sine From Above, just the message of this song. It saved me.
Me too... BTW for me it's the best album... the songs are so deep and so real, everything make sense for me. And always cried when I was listening, It seems that Gaga wrote this album for me. ARTPOP is good, but I like a lot BTW.
Amcia It's not a "flop"..It's just really messy..The Applause and Do What U Want era was epic.. When we started waiting for DWUW video to come ,the era was dead..It was a fine era..And I really loved the album and the videos..Soo it's ok for me
I'm never gonna forget how free and liberated I felt when I first heard this song. it was so unreal to me that finally my feeling were put into a gorgeous melody. this song and the entire Born this way album got me through some of the hardest times of my life of not being accepted by parents. thank you Gaga
"I just want to be free, I just want to be me And I want lots of friends that invite me to their parties Don't wanna change, and I don't wanna be ashamed I'm the spirit of my hair, it's all the glory that I bare." Love this. It's the ghost of a young Gaga crying in anguish. But, now, she is free as her hair and she has found her place and her people. Little Lady Gaga made it! This is a great song of heartfelt happiness from overcoming pain and loneliness. Very inspirational.
I have a distinctive memory of being in the car, my mum driving me to school and crying in the back seat listening to this song. Headphones in between classes, listening to BTW. She got me through man.
This is why I started to love her music, it really brings into deep thoughts, and I hope that someday in the future, she'll make another album like Born This Way.
When I was in middle school I wasn't allowed to have long hair due to their stupid rules, due to that my mother used to cut my hair while I was asleep, it was a nightmare, I would cry so much. I always wanted to be a woman and now I listen to this song again and I remember how understood and empowered I would feel when I listened to it. It represents such an important song of my life. ❤ Thanks Gaga.
This is one of the addicting songs I have ever heard. An upbeat song but has a lot of emotion. This song tells someone who wanted to be free and to be accepted. Just recently found this song and I can say this is one of my favourites.
This song always makes me cry. I've been dyeing my hair since I was an adolescent. My hair was my self exploration and my way to say "this is who I am, and it's gorgeous, I know." Now, as an adult, I'm still the same. 15 years of hair dye and I'm still at it. Recently all my art and passion were taken from me and destroyed, so tomorrow I'm adding rainbow streaks in my silver hair. "I just wanna be myself and I want you to know, I AM MY HAIR." I'll always have Mother Monster to pick me up when I can't even crawl off the bathroom floor.
There's something about these early Gaga noughties songs that is fresh af. I can't describe it actually, it is a peculiar novelty that shines through in her early work. It's addictive, it's like a a fruity, and colorful cider. It's weird but there doesn't seem to be any darkness in the songs. Yet some how you sense it is still there in the background which brings light and shade to the song. For some reason it just works for me, and I don't think I'll ever be able to put my finger on it. Pure creativity flows through every song, but each song retains its pop and dance vibe that is always what makes me come back for more. You can't help but allow the beat and electric vibes rock you. One day I hope music will reach this kind of bubblegum type pop. Because it is something that is ingrained deep within, it attaches to memories that I had of this era, and somehow this bittersweet nostalgia flows and generates a warm and loving feeling inside. I don't think I'll ever not like her songs.
2021 and i'm back here bc i want to celebrate myself and the fact the after many years i finally have the opportunity to let my hair grow as long as i want to, after spend all my childhood/youthood under the command of my parents, who have always told me that a man should wear his hair short. Now i'm 19 and this little change is a big win for me, hopefully in a soon future i would like to dye it.
This is my favorite song I have ever heard. It inspires me a lot. Remember when I dyed very yellow hair and went to school, people and people started talking sh!t on my hair. I feel hurt, but I cannot go against them. I have listened to your songs since I was 2, u know Gaga? My mom and I really love you. Your music...just like my personality and my life. Everything (sadness, joy, anger, and love) fills me. I'll die living just as free as my hair!
This song gives me hope. Hope that one day, this depression will leave me. Hope that one day, I will love myself. Hope that one day people will hear my voice. Hope that one day, I'll be finally happy.
I'm sad this wasn't more successful, in my opinion this is like top 5 Gaga's best song ever. Very simple and straightforward, and just the right amount of encouragement we all need.
+Nađa Spahalić yea but it was at #12 for one week and then dropped out altogether. I hopes this was released as a proper single and be more well known and maybe reach top 5 or something. But at least this is pretty adored I guess
i heard someone say that "marry the night" is like going to the dark side by marrying the dark, the devil and stuff but like, have they listened to the song? "im gonna marry the night, I WONT GIVE UP ON MY LIFE, IM A WARRIOR QUEEN, LIVE PASSIONATELY TONIGHT" now tell me, is marry the night and born this way (album) demonic and satanic?
as a gay person im having a hard time admitting to my parents, friends, and to myself that i am different and i hate myself for that, I even blame it to God that I believed in... But then i heard of this song and all i can say that it describes how i feel on myself on everyday life. Thank you Lady Gaga for making this music, even though i didnt even confessed til now, yet it is something I can hold onto. Love you xoxo
just have faith....i had when i came out and it turns out good...if youre a man go to your mom 1st....if girl...to dad....just have faith.....good luck
This song is more powerful than lots of albums out there these days. This era was simply the best. The deepest, the most emotional, the most true delivery from gaga... Reaches our inner, hidden selves that we usually don't visit because it hurts when we do. But it, actually, became freedom instead, thanks to gaga. Well, I'm lucky I lived this.
girl pete burns is trans and he is VERY talented...dont let anyone prove you wrong...we people on lgbt community we are the same as anyone else just doing different stuff on our bed...its not a big deal
i don't mean to sound cheesy but anyway, this is honestly the greatest gaga song of all time in my opinion. it is empowering both lyrically and musically and i applaud gaga for making an anthem powerful enough to actually help people with their everyday lives. i never thought a song could mean so much to me until i listened to this. good job, lady.
This song has truly kept me alive. I'm transgender and i've been in the process for about a year. I think about killing myself all the time and not having to endure the pain any longer almost everyday. But this song, this song allows me to feel like she understands. The pain and struggle. I am not a freak and i just wanna be myself and love who i am. I know some people have their opinions on this song, but for me, it's kept me alive and positive to push through and to never demean myself. I am my Hair :D
Yeah, stay strong. And try not to think of all the jerks who will make you feel like a freak. You are who you are and you should not be ashamed of that. Be proud of yourself, and screw them all.
It's funny how back in 2011 a lot of people hated that the Born This Way era was "dark" yet two years later being grunge/dark became hip, cool etc. it became a trend to have pastel hair *cough* Katy Perry *Cough* and dark lipstick. Beyonce's 2013 image is a prime example of how big that trend became. Gaga is always two years ahead with what she does.
+KK KingKoala I was just thinking that. I have been working on my own silver hair for months, and I'm happy because at least, for me, it's an emotional tie to Gaga.
I love this song so much. This song is so powerful and meaningful. Listening to this song makes me more proud of who I am today. Thank you Queen, thank you Lady Gaga. This song is so BEAUTIFUL!
Personally I think her performance on Taratata (France) of it was pretty cool. You can count that as the video if you want. She also performed it on Paul O’Grady.
i was 10 years old when this song came out. i dont know why but i was really obsessed with hair. and now im 23 and i can really relate to this song because i live in a household and a country that is depriving me from being my true authentic self, and that is slowly killing me. i hope i can be free as my hair one day. thank you for this masterpiece.
idk i grew up listening to lady gaga since i was in elementary school, and im genuinely glad she was a true role model to me... she’s so ahead of her time

omg 😭
I'm crying out of happiness, this song was her best from BTW in my opinion
is the best!!!!
Jhon Deivi I regret saying was so much right now
Born this way, Judas, You and I, The edge of glory, Hair, Americano, Bloody Mary,... I think album Born this way is the best
This song has a special place in my heart. As much as I am obsessed with Pokerface, Paparazzi, GUY, John Wayne and Sine From Above, just the message of this song. It saved me.
I miss Born This Way so much...
Me too... BTW for me it's the best album... the songs are so deep and so real, everything make sense for me. And always cried when I was listening, It seems that Gaga wrote this album for me. ARTPOP is good, but I like a lot BTW.
I love artpop era
All about The Fame Monster
I think that ARTPOP is a flop. When she released ''Applause'' I was so exited about the album... Now ARTPOP is a mess. Its just my opinion.
It did for me too! This song was my anthem at 18! It continues to be 💓🦄
"I just want to be free, I just want to be me
And I want lots of friends that invite me to their parties
Don't wanna change, and I don't wanna be ashamed
I'm the spirit of my hair, it's all the glory that I bare."
Love this. It's the ghost of a young Gaga crying in anguish. But, now, she is free as her hair and she has found her place and her people. Little Lady Gaga made it!
This is a great song of heartfelt happiness from overcoming pain and loneliness. Very inspirational.
This album saved a lot of lives, thanks for this beautiful angel, the one & only Lady Gaga
This is anthem for me. Such an underrated song gosh
***** Agreed
Best Gospel Song of Gaga. 🙌🙏
I still cry me eyes out whenever I listen to this entire album. We love you Mother Monster
This song gave me so much inner strength at the time.
as time passes, The Fame & Born This Way get better & better, proving how powerful they were at the time. We love you Gaga. Thank you for everything.
a real voice.....-she is talented....
we love U GAGA!
💙
hair is the song I listened to when I felt like shit in my room, it helped me get over everything bad
I'm obsessed with lady gaga

11 YEARS AND WE STILL NEED A MV FOR THIS MASTERPIECE, GAGA.
Such an underrated song. ❤️ That powerful pre-chorus and chorus is everything
This song makes me feel so free

This album really did save a lot of us LGBTQ+ people
She has no idea how many lives she has saved, including mine.
Why only lgbt people? XD
@Steven Roza Don't speak on matters you know nothing about.
Lady Gaga helped me accept my sexuality, when nobody else would.
it did not only saved lgbtq+ people, it saved most people's lives.
@Steven Roza "man up" on Gaga video? Honey, you are LOST 😩
This album made me feel special and it always will make me feel special , Love Ü Gaga ❤
Gaga whenever you want to make a comeback just release a music video to this

COVID19 SURVIVOR - 2020, and I’m still listening to this masterpiece 💕💜⚔️
2021 and i'm back here bc i want to celebrate myself and the fact the after many years i finally have the opportunity to let my hair grow as long as i want to, after spend all my childhood/youthood under the command of my parents, who have always told me that a man should wear his hair short. Now i'm 19 and this little change is a big win for me, hopefully in a soon future i would like to dye it.
Good for you, keep your spirit alive, always💜
Omg i passed by the same situation and im also 19 too..

+Gregory Wilson It was #12 on BH100, pretty successful.
+Nađa Spahalić yea but it was at #12 for one week and then dropped out altogether. I hopes this was released as a proper single and be more well known and maybe reach top 5 or something. But at least this is pretty adored I guess
+Gregory Wilson Actually, it's pretty successful for a promotional single only :)
Was it?
this song WILL NEVER get old
Lady Gaga: *makes a whole album about loving yourself no matter what*
The preists: omg... The devil..
The preists is the devil . That's it
@@jhonariesgaril8555 you're right 👍🏻
i heard someone say that "marry the night" is like going to the dark side by marrying the dark, the devil and stuff but like, have they listened to the song? "im gonna marry the night, I WONT GIVE UP ON MY LIFE, IM A WARRIOR QUEEN, LIVE PASSIONATELY TONIGHT" now tell me, is marry the night and born this way (album) demonic and satanic?
What do priests have to do with this? It was the Muslims who are talking more s***
At least where I am ☹️☹️
as a gay person im having a hard time admitting to my parents, friends, and to myself that i am different and i hate myself for that, I even blame it to God that I believed in... But then i heard of this song and all i can say that it describes how i feel on myself on everyday life. Thank you Lady Gaga for making this music, even though i didnt even confessed til now, yet it is something I can hold onto. Love you xoxo

R.I.P🖤
This song is more powerful than lots of albums out there these days. This era was simply the best. The deepest, the most emotional, the most true delivery from gaga... Reaches our inner, hidden selves that we usually don't visit because it hurts when we do. But it, actually, became freedom instead, thanks to gaga. Well, I'm lucky I lived this.
I grew up with abnormal hair growth that got me bullied for over 16 years, this song means so much to me
Now, years later, im older and love my body just the way it is!!! took me years! SELFLOVE!
this song makes me wanna cry because im trans and anything even the slightest bit feminine is considered to extra
girl pete burns is trans and he is VERY talented...dont let anyone prove you wrong...we people on lgbt community we are the same as anyone else just doing different stuff on our bed...its not a big deal
You're beautiful!
Your pic makes me so happy
You are gorgeous! Always believe in yourself and love others 😘
Yo same with me
i don't mean to sound cheesy but anyway, this is honestly the greatest gaga song of all time in my opinion. it is empowering both lyrically and musically and i applaud gaga for making an anthem powerful enough to actually help people with their everyday lives. i never thought a song could mean so much to me until i listened to this. good job, lady.
Eargasmic from start to finish. The lady is an artistic genius.
THIS NEVER GETS OLD
This song has truly kept me alive.
What an amazing comment, I can totally relate. Just know you are who you are no matter what anyone thinks!
Stay strong, Jasmine!
Yeah, stay strong. And try not to think of all the jerks who will make you feel like a freak. You are who you are and you should not be ashamed of that. Be proud of yourself, and screw them all.
I respect you guys so fucking much❤️ Keep being yourself because thats the only important thing!!!!
Jasmine Huete You are who you are! You were born to be brave. Show the world who you are
It's funny how back in 2011 a lot of people hated that the Born This Way era was "dark" yet two years later being grunge/dark became hip, cool etc. it became a trend to have pastel hair *cough* Katy Perry *Cough* and dark lipstick. Beyonce's 2013 image is a prime example of how big that trend became. Gaga is always two years ahead with what she does.
+Teera Xo Gaga in 2013 had white/gray wigs now granny hair is a trend, not surprised :)
+KK KingKoala I was just thinking that. I have been working on my own silver hair for months, and I'm happy because at least, for me, it's an emotional tie to Gaga.
+Bear Butts you'll laugh at half of the trends gaga started
Oh god, I know. And no one really acknowledges it.
Gaga is changing the Music with every Album 👌
I love this song so much. This song is so powerful and meaningful. Listening to this song makes me more proud of who I am today. Thank you Queen, thank you Lady Gaga. This song is so BEAUTIFUL!
This song gives me strength. LOVE YOU GAGA

I've started losing my hair really young and this makes me feel better about getting extensions/a wig xx

It's a shame this song was never released and given a proper video.
Personally I think her performance on Taratata (France) of it was pretty cool. You can count that as the video if you want. She also performed it on Paul O’Grady.
The first pop song that made me cry 🤧I am not me without Gaga.
Dear Lady Gaga, Dear Stephani Joanne Angelina Germanota , Thank you for existing. You saved my life. ❤️

Releasing Hair not as a single was a big mistake, its among her 5 best songs
better nerf irelia.
No it was not a mistake. Hair wasn't suitable to be a single. ScheiBe was.
MapleStory012 ScheiBe was really messy-sounding.Hair is more ear-friendly.
Jehh173 ScheiBe isn't messy... it's good. Hair's instrument is really loud it almost overpowered the vocal, can't really her voice in Hair.
That's how most songs are nowadays, but personally she should've done speechless as a single.
Shi... zzle! That's amazing!
Today's lesson: Never judge a song by its title!
My absolute favorite era of Gaga
i was 10 years old when this song came out. i dont know why but i was really obsessed with hair. and now im 23 and i can really relate to this song because i live in a household and a country that is depriving me from being my true authentic self, and that is slowly killing me. i hope i can be free as my hair one day. thank you for this masterpiece.
i feel like this could of been a number one single
It's a promotive one

Actually peaks #12
idk i grew up listening to lady gaga since i was in elementary school, and im genuinely glad she was a true role model to me... she’s so ahead of her time
This song is 11 years old and it still sounds like a song that was just released this year. She was truly ahead of her time! 🌹
