I used to talk shit about airline pilots making us sit for hours on a plane to wait out a storm. Must be nice to sit on your ass and get paid right? Pilots are just like truckers. They sit in a tarmac and don’t get paid until the wheels leave the runway. If the delay is too long and interferes with their FAA regulated sleep schedule they don’t get paid for an entire day. I learned this from a Delta pilot who was quitting to take a “pay cut” to fly private charter planes. He was making almost equal if not more with private clients since he wasn’t hamstrung by company policy and FAA commercial regulations. In a nutshell I’ve been wrong more than I’ve been right but I learned that that stupid cliche “walk a mile in a mans shoes” is a necessity before I can judge.
With due respect, if your first load starts at noon by the time your drive to delivery and come back to your second pick up 250 miles passed( around 5 hrs considering traffic) plus drop and hock 30 minutes each will bring you to 6 hours gone, now its 6pm ready for the second load

Yes I agree with you. A friend of mine does the same thing with his trucks and there are 2 drivers , 12 hours shift who are hauling 4 local loads in 24 hours with hooking and unhooking the trailer loads.
What’s up Dave, I been doing research on investing on a truck for OTR and was really nervous but after watching your videos I feel more confident on making that investment, keep up the good work on voicing reality vs fiction.
I did have a question if you had time to respond. I know you said in previous videos about having No middle men in the trucking business to capitalize on profit. But would you consider it being smart and also profitable ? as a beginner investor who solely wants to just own and not drive to join under someones authority first to take care of the dispatch for a percentage between 10-15% dryvan otr and having the insurance being cheaper as oppose to the big out pocket cost to being under my own authority and finding my own work. Just trying to see if I can truly just invest and have someone else keep the truck busy and dispatch while all I do is take care of the overhead and the driver, is this an ideal way to profit?
If you can, buy a truck and stay local. If you have intermodal near by or some type of flatbed work. Stay local. Look for a truck no more than 20k. Doesnt have to be the nicest. I can go more into detail, feel free to contact me. I'm a driver myself.
@@itsmiguell I'm more fond of the cummins isx, which I actually have right now. The n14 cummins is a great motor, hard to find in trucks since it was before the isx. Detroit engines, more of so the 60series is awsome. Both of those are the least expensive, with parts and easy to get a mechanic to work on. I wont touch any truck with the new def regulations in which they cause more harm to engines in the long run. So anything under 2008 you should be good. Cat motors are good, very powerful, but expensive not only for parts but working on them too.
I just got my CDL, with hazmat, tanker ect. I am looking at different options to make money without going OTR, I appreciate you giving me food for thought. Thanks
It's can be done with live loading and unloading as well. The company I work for slip seat ten 80footer auto carrier trucks which average about $2,800-$5,000 daily (to the driver average 25%-29% of load) to the truck before the deduction cost of operation.
Thank you for your content! Very helpful and encouraging! I'm a new company with 1 truck and no trailer. I'm in the Dallas tx area and it is a struggle out here. I'm determined to grow though!
Its possible to do with more than 1 driver. I think that's common sense. So does the 2nd driver get screwed out of pay while driver #1 gets 2 runs? How does that part workout? Do you pay hourly? Do you keep drivers busy or high turn over rate because you don't have enough work in a day for each driver?
Eric Santiago , I take it you feel this is insufficient info to start a business? I saw a few of his videos where he pretty much spells it out how to start a business of this type. You may have a different perspective I’m guessing. What information is missing in your opinion?
Great information brother I just described to you not too long I'm going back and watching all your videos from day one, you have very helpful information I'm trying to move forward in the trucking industry and you're answering a lot of my questions

Thanks man. I’m finishing up an MBA and was about to start med school, but I think I’m gonna work on starting a trucking business so I don’t be struggling in med school. Doing my CDL training in a few weeks!
Med school is debt but when your done with residency you’ll be making good money and will always have a job. Also there are many loan forgiveness options out there. D Carter that is the most stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. Like if he goes into trucking you think owning a truck isn’t expensive ? You think you won’t get into debt in this business ? You’re sadly mistaken. Don’t ever discourage someone from getting an education especially anything medical related
@@lou9641 I’m doing both. But the difference is business debt vs consumer debt. Business debt is leveraged and businesses only fail because of a lack of liquidity, not debt. Trucking is only a component of my vision.
@@savagemedic30 hey do you bro. I was actually commenting to D Carter because he was discouraging going to med school. If you can, buy a truck and stay local. If you have intermodal near by or some type of flatbed work. Stay local. Look for a truck no more than 20k. Doesnt have to be the nicest. I can go more into detail, feel free to contact me. I'm a driver myself.
@@525HP What engine (brand and model) have you known to be one of the more reliable?
Thanks
I'm glad I found your UTUBE CHANNEL THANK YOU DAVE !!
It's can be done with live loading and unloading as well. The company I work for slip seat ten 80footer auto carrier trucks which average about $2,800-$5,000 daily (to the driver average 25%-29% of load) to the truck before the deduction cost of operation.
But you did prove your point good content.
Thank you for your content! Very helpful and encouraging! I'm a new company with 1 truck and no trailer. I'm in the Dallas tx area and it is a struggle out here. I'm determined to grow though!
U had to add “legally “ 😂😂😂
You make valid points. Do you have any suggestions for Hotshot truckers
Thanks David for the info
Its possible to do with more than 1 driver. I think that's common sense. So does the 2nd driver get screwed out of pay while driver #1 gets 2 runs? How does that part workout? Do you pay hourly? Do you keep drivers busy or high turn over rate because you don't have enough work in a day for each driver?
I wish you can help me start a trucking business in a day cab
Eric Santiago , I take it you feel this is insufficient info to start a business? I saw a few of his videos where he pretty much spells it out how to start a business of this type. You may have a different perspective I’m guessing. What information is missing in your opinion?
Great information brother I just described to you not too long I'm going back and watching all your videos from day one, you have very helpful information I'm trying to move forward in the trucking industry and you're answering a lot of my questions
3:30 where he gets to the point.
@@itzkobbo3865 First of all you have no idea who is getting rich from this information. Secondly no one gets rich in this industry unless you're a really large carrier who can scale the business up over a number of profitable years. Two thirds of the money made goes right back into running the business and even more if you're a lousy business owner. Third, if you're going to waste your time sending me idiotic comments at least get your facts and grammar right. Otherwise you're making your own ass look pretty stupid.
Chuck Brown *your not you’re 🥴
@@hunterl5078 Yeah.....what he said. 👍
Man I've already watched maybe 10 of your videos back to back and I can't stop watching! you explain everything so simple. Keep posting bro! appreciate everything!
Watchers vs workers. Now I see who makes the money and who doesn’t.
waooww i dont even make that here in miami 5 days a week doing local containers 😕 ....only guys i know that make that much in 6-7 days of work is 2 of my buddys at fec and 2 other guys that do ltl for averrit express..... thats alot of miles in one day so i believe it if its before fuel/expensives, but in 5 years here local n some short roads to orlando tampa n jacksonville...Only guys I've ran across that actually share that info of making some big money are some car haulers that do about 500-600miles a day, but dam yea Props to you 👍
Thanks man. I’m finishing up an MBA and was about to start med school, but I think I’m gonna work on starting a trucking business so I don’t be struggling in med school. Doing my CDL training in a few weeks!
Med school is debt bro skip that shit
Do what you have to but being a physician is a life commitment as long as youre in it. Very hard to manage a company outside of that. I’d think hard and strong before jumping in.
My brother is a owner op, just got his own authority. I am a PA working full time in emergency medicine now. I am hopping in the business as well with my brother but this shit isn’t easy at all. Both careers are very time consuming.
@@lou9641 oh my bad lol but that’s awesome man. I understand. You can make it work. You guys will figure something out to maximize efficiency.

A Melek S your not a entrepreneur if you think working 20 days a month is killing yourself.
@@iamOAKland and you seem to be the slave.
i am not killing myself over this job.

Your math is horrible....
@@amels4620 The drivers are doing a regular days work, home every night/day, and David is running his business, maintaining established lanes. So who exactly is killing themselves? I'm going to guess you didn't watch the whole video, to realize there are TWO drivers splitting those loads. I've worked longer, harder hours without being anywhere near trucking.
New to the business... I have learnt so much from your videos it’s amazing. I have to say thanks for all the info you share ... g
Thanks as always.

David the information your leaving is very helpful, especially since I'm new to the trucking industry with 1 truck and driver.
Where are you fm and how much do you pay your drivers per mile if you can sure?
?2 Do you save any money 💰 one fuel? if you do can you sure.
Very good. I personally call profit after all expenses. Labor, tires ,oil, tires ,taxes, everything.then what is a day profit. Engine overhauls, at the end of the day ?
Congratulations. It sounds like you have a solid business setup. Keep up the good work.
Excellent illustration on drop and hook. I really appreciate for sharing your valuable time and wisdom. Thanks again !!. Mat.
Thanks alot brother I've learned a lot .am from Kenya 🇰🇪 n a a ten wheel truck driver n it's has low salary. I think in America I can make a good money
How can you pick up a load at 12:00 do a 250 miles round trip take 30 minutes doing drop and hook and be back at 4:00 pm for your 2 load. What are you explaining don't match at all.
It’s no set pickup times. That’s just the times the trailers are ready for pickup.
