Major Version Upgrade and Parameter Changes in AWS RDS using Terraform

We are getting this notification on our AWS server "The end-of-life date is approaching for Amazon RDS for MySQL database instances on M4, R4, T2 instance types.".
Will your solutions work for this and what are the propper procedures should I take backups first or should I create a clone or ECV and then try over there? Pls guide me on this
