- I improved the audio of a recording of this concert from the Starplex Amphitheatre during the 1994 Citizen Steely Dan tour. This is a great sounding show thanks to it being a soundboard recording, and it has a bit of a unique sound as it had more reverb on the instruments than most recordings. Slideshow images are not from this show, but most are from other 1994 shows (pics courtesy of Pete Fogel's metalleg.com and Getty Images), and since there weren't many pics from the '94 tour, I had to supplement a few other shots for variety.
Donald Fagen (Vocals, Fender Rhodes, Melodica, Keytar)
Walter Becker (Vocals, guitar)
Georg Wadenius (Guitar)
Tom Barney (Bass)
Dennis Chambers (Drums)
Bill Ware (Vibes, percussion)
Warren Bernhardt (Keyboards)
Cornelius Bumpus (Saxophone)
Bob Sheppard (Saxophone)
Chris Potter (Saxophone)
Catherine Russell (Background vocals)
Diane Garisto (Background vocals)
Brenda White-King (Background vocals)

That opening medley was posted onto TH-cam years ago and I remember thinking it was, and still is, the greatest live rendition of "The Fez" ever, in my opinion. Out of all their live eras, I've always loved the early 90s horn arrangements the most
I preferred the horn arrangements once they added trumpet and trombone, but the '93-'95 sax only sound is cool in its own way.
Best Dan live recording I've heard!
Was uploaded before and the 11Tracks of Whack stuff really sounds fresh here. Donald is really playing the hell out of the Keytar on 'Hard Up Case.'
'Peg' sounds so sparkly and glossy, the drum solo on 'Josie' and Walter's solos are sublime, and this has hands-down the best version of 'Kid Charlemagne' I've heard in my life. The energy is unmatched and the near perfect replication of the solo is brilliant.
We were young promoters that promoted a show with The Big Wahkoo / with David Palmer
Dude. This is great stuff. Thanks, I needed it.
Ah yes, just groovin to the Steely Dan...perfect after a long day tool jammin...
Just excellent work, Dan. How crazy is it that they open vocally with their magnum opus "Aja"? Most bands would save their best for last, but with Steely Dan literally every song is their best. Nice that we get Walter singing "Down in the Bottom" and "Hard Up Case" from his solo album "11 Tracks of Whack."
Down in the Bottom and Hard Up Case were the two tracks that stood out to me most on this recording. Just phenomenal.
@@djbelc01 Agreed. If he had also performed "Book of Liars," this would have been perfection!
@@djbelc01 Thank you Dan. I'll watch and listen.
Shepherd's Chapel Network !!!!!!! Chapter by Chapter / Verse by Verse !!!!!!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! For uninterrupted steely dan music
You're the best.
Very sharp
Sounds good Dan.. Thanks for sharing
Sorry I missed it!!!! Love the Royal Scam. Total perfection as usual!!❤
Goosebumps. This is stunning.
Good source audio, good mix, very nice final coat of wax.
Was there from first hearing Reeling in the Years on the radio. Finally saw them in London 2009.
I walked off the job today. Just couldn’t hack it anymore
Nice sound. Thanks for sharing.
I recognized Georg Wadenius' name and thought it was a revamped/touring Chicago performance on TV years ago I recalled it from, but it was Blood Sweat and Tears. Brilliant playing, idk what to credit to him, what to Walter, so, let's go Georg, bravo both of 'em. Rest In Peace, Walter, a life well spent, imo, and I know I'm not alone in that opinion.
Thanks for this gorgeous document, btw, Dan. Cheers, it's a real beaut.
I tried to show Georg or Walter in the slideshow I did for this concert whenever one of them was soloing, so that should help you keep them separate. They have pretty different guitar tones and styles.
@@djbelc01 I thought that might be the case, but wrote my comment a couple tunes in, and scrolled down enough to type, the video or whatever's onscreen isn't visible. Cheers and thanks for responding.
Sweet thanks for posting
Sounds great! Thanks.
AWESOME!!!! This is as good as it gets. Yes, Zeppelin, Stones, Beatles, Abba, Haggard, Aretha, Prince, Heartbreakers, Wilbury's, Elvis, Maria Callas, Caruso, Duke Ellington, whatever... THIS is as great as anything.
Sheeeeeit. Forgot to add in Willie Nelson, Paco de Lucia and Oscar Peterson...
Keep 'em coming: List your greats alongside SD. The list is long, and all of them are THE TOPS.
God dayummmm, this version of Babylon sisters is nasty🔥
Thank you Dan Belcher
HARD UP CASE???? AMAZING!
I'll never quite like how much they slow down Sign In Stranger
Find your fortune
On this lonely star
The chances are good
You will thrive
If you make it back alive
46:05 has musically almost the same bridge as the 1976 studio Sign In Stranger, but with these altered lyrics. I'm not sure how many times before this they sang this version but it's fun to see what they decided to do with the original
I was there.
Absolutely ❤ anything Steely Dan and this is a great sounding live recording, but did anyone else besides myself miss the traditional Guitar solo on "Reelin in the years"? It doesn't have to be an exact duplicate of the recorded version, but that's one of my favorite all time Guitar solos and it is what makes the song special? Just sayin.
In later tours they brought back the traditional version of Reelin'. I really enjoy both versions and view them as basically their own separate songs.
@@djbelc01 I get it. After playing the traditional version of the song so many times, I understand the desire to switch things up. But that intro Guitar is so key to the song's identity IMO. I actually had a difficult time identifying the track until Fagen's vocals came in.
!
Tomorrow's Girls sheesh they are *on* it
Of course no Doctor Wu.
Have they ever played Doctor Wu live ??
They have, but only a handful of times. Lucky for you, I just posted a video recently one of those times. Check out the videos on my channel for the 2011 "Rarities Night" concert, and I also posted a clip of just that one song alone here: th-cam.com/video/l8uMY9mHwFQ/w-d-xo.html

Thanks Dan!
Excellent! 👍🏻
I know... Yeah... Donald will NEVER 'stoop' to playing a comical vampire in a B-movie classic (and it would be an instant cult-classic, because of him), but DAMMIT. The what could have beens and what could beeees...
So good!
Who plays the sax solo on Hey Nineteen?
Whos drumming here? Dennis Chambers?
Yep. Full band lineup is in the video description.
@@djbelc01 thank you...imwas just guessing at first
A good guess!
