그게 아니고 다른 콘솔게임들 패키지와 완전 똑같진 않더라도 같은 칸에 꽂을수 있을 정도론 사이즈가 맞아야 하기 때문입니다. 예를들어서 책장에 책을 정리하는데 어떤 책은 손바닥 사이즈인데 어떤 책은 엄지만하면 정리할때 거슬리니까요. 이런 이유때문에 cd는 들어있지도 않은 pc게임의 패키징도 플스.엑박 패키지와 비슷한 사이즈로 나옵니다

i dont think people realize that you CANT read the back info of the game at all with those small covers. thats really the main issue. if you cant see what the game has to offer then whats the point of even trying to buy it if you dont know what it is lol.

For those talking about how it’s a great idea and saves plastic, well, you’re kinda right on that, but so much still goes into a game case, such as marketing and game information, and particularly for the Switch, in what modes the game can be played in. Super important because some games may be incompatible with certain modes, or incompatible with one version of the system outright (the Switch Lite can only properly be used in handheld mode). All that information would be nigh impossible for a case that small

Eh, I dunno since there isn't a huge amount of difference between TV and handheld mode outside of resolution, not to mention most games don't even come with manuals anymore, plus they could tell you a lot of this stuff when you go to fire up the game.

Why not use a cardboard box (can be reinforced with plastic film) if shelf presence is your concern.
As it stands the reasons for having big plastic cases stem from either negligence or the hoarding mentality.

I really like the idea. One thought; this uses fairly expensive self adhesive laminate as well as expensive double sided bond tape. I think Ill make these, but instead laminate the printed sheet with standard 3mm laminate which costs a fraction the cost of the self adhesive laminates and has a glossy finish and adhere with 3M 77 spray adhesive. Should provide a slightly more authentic finish as well a provide a stronger bond!
The only reason why Nintendo makes the cases so big is so it’s not as hard to lose them and easier to see and keep track of it. Plus, it gives them a chance to add some cool art on the inside of the cases. So I personally don’t mind the giant cases.

This is actually a pretty neat idea. Have whatever you need to read of the game as the paper packaging for the cartridges - for convenience sake - and it could also double as a poster for the game art.

The reason I think they don't make them like this is because 1) You could pretty much just steal this by hiding it in your pocket and 2) the labels on the back are already really small, and these wouldn't even be readable. Those labels are actually important because sometimes there are epilepsy warnings.

The reason they probably don’t package it like this is, because their games are freaking expensive and they want you to think you are getting something worth your money, by increasing the size of the package.
Actually, the larger package is so game info can be included on the back, but I do agree it could be a bit smaller.
Or maybe because it looks more like a toy rather than an actual game case?

I still think that this might even be too small.. but why would they make for a cartridge which is smaller than an ds cardridge a case which is basically the package for the switch just a little thinner??? Why not make the ds one thinner since the switch is still a handheld at some point??
I don’t even keep my cartridge games in their actual cases, so I wouldn’t mind something like this at all! I just store them in a carrying case, since it saves some hassle.

It's not standard copy paper nor a cardstock, it's something in between. It needs a special printer to print these images in such good quality and those definitely don't come cheap or are worth the price for home usage.

@@gabikralj94 i think you're right, you have to use a "photo printer". luckily those have come down in price and one that's definitely large enough for this project can be bought at any store that sells printers - and also Michael's, most of the time.
However, what i noticed was that OP printed several copies of each label, and also this isn't exactly a common, repeating usage for a 3D printer, unless you were planning to sell the cases on Etsy or something. OP didn't print out enough for that. I suspect that OP is only making a few cases for friends, and so, printing at a shop for this one-off job is cheaper than sourcing a photo printer and paper and possibly also ink, depending on exactly how intensive each printing is.
Fun fact: there's so much ink on photo prints that you can flip the photo onto almost any surface, cover the back with something like mod podge (which is a particular recipe of craft glue), peel off the paper and be left with a clear, reversed photo on your material. It kind of squicked me when I learned that. I no longer like being around photo prints!

Yeah, I agree with everyone but the downfall of small boxes is the fact many people could steal and might attempt it, so there would have to be extra security in gamestop's selling it.
to be fair, the boxes are a lot bigger than ds boxes even though the cartridges are like half the size, i feel like they could have at least made the boxes a little smaller

They're less large and thinner so it compensates the height of the box
I would say they're roughly the same size as a DS box
they should have originally done the cases this way. not only does this save plastic, but it also looks good, and very reminiscent of gameboy cartridge cases. this also fits very well with the switch's theme which is portability.
It would be neat if they put these little travel cases in with the game, even though you don't need it, it'd be nice to have a mini case you could take with you and put on a keyring

Nintendo makes them the size they do for a reason. Imagine picking up a game youve never seen before in a store and you cant figure out what it is or what its about because the packaging is tiny and minimalistic. They make them a little bigger so they can actually put some alluring art and game description on the front and back of the case.
The normal Switch case is comedically large compared to the game card
and it even comes with a space for booklets but no freakin booklets.
i miss the good old day, where you still got a booklet to read, with useful info for games.
or a little lore in em.
@@SqualidsargeStudios I use that space to keep relevant documents, like the receipt for the game, hand made guides, check lists, etc
maybe its large to put the switch.....in the switch case.......

I like this so much better, I don't know why nintendo made the packaging so big for such a small cartridge. Plus it saves space and easier to carry around with your switch.

The packaging is big for security reasons. It’s harder to steal something the size of a small book rather than a container of mints or gum.

Not necessarily an issue. Here in Australia all game disks and carts are kept behind the counter with empty cases left out on shelves. Sometimes they simply switch the empty case for the properly packaged case that they have behind the counter.
So while your idea works in theory, there are ways around this which means thieves only leave the store with plastic that is probably worth (being generous) $2 aud.
but they could put small ones inside so you could have an option for miniature or normal
that is.... actually much more logical than the typical nintendo reasoning

Absolutely brilliant. Nintendo should really adapt this but maybe a small folded pamphlet inside instead of tiny writing on the back.

Those would be cool for personal use but those could not be actual retail cases since stores would not be able to fit them on any existing shelf/fixture. For example CD's used to come in big 12"x5" cardboard boxes in the 80's and 90's because no record store or retail store had any solution to placing the tiny CD jewel cases on their shelves and they all still had the old fixtures they used for records in previous years, but then in the early 90's they came up with a solution for the CD cases alone and the boxes went away fast, probably around 1992/93.
These type of youtubers should have a website to like sell the little things they make with templates for the printed out stuff so you could change it to your own liking

About twenty years ago, when Pokemon Red and Blue first came out and there was a gigantic resurgence of the Gamebody with the release of the GB pocket revision, my Grandma spotted a deal for the gameboy and a copy of pokemon at our local department store.
Back then, when we first unboxed the game, my grandma and ten year old me were amazed by how small the game pack was and we were sure it would be easy to lose such a tiny cartridge. Now games that are thousands of times large and more complex fit on storage a quarter of that size.
