Polystyrene has to be the worst possible material to use to press records. Although the playing surface is ultra quiet for the first few playings it very quickly degrades to a hissy record and very poor sound. You do wonder who could have thought it was a good idea. Thankfully it was rarely used here as far as i am aware... unlike in the states.
