For continuity sake I think future Web-Warrior Fanatic should always be hair down 😂! I do think B tier is more reflective of the power level especially when you have to deploy asterisks.

Yea it was hard for me to decide. He has cards that fulfill certain categories (like being able to flip down safely) but in my experience playing him i didn’t feel like he had the luxury to do so
For my own personal incredibly biased rating Nightcrawler is an A-Tier. Primarily since I can play him as someone without allies, he fills the Fantasy of 'You are safe now!' to teammates in multiplayer and in solo it feels good to go toe to toe with the villain and utilize defense score. I fully agree that he lacks in Thwart compared to other heroes, but I feel more free to include cards that will let him thwart thanks to him not being tied to the hip to several other cards you'd normally have to consider for survival. Yet the thing is - Your analysis isn't wrong and I can't really find anything I disagree with.
HOWEVER!!! This is all with a huge grain of salt, as someone that prefers low to no ally decks whenever its' feasible and wouldn't harm my personal enjoyment too much. I also really love Protection sooooo... Lots of bias. (It's VERY HARD to get me away from Pool/Protection nowadays. 😆)
The thing is though I'm glad Kurt is a B-Tier to an A-Tier hero, as if the hero I'm playing is too strong then it almost feels like I'm cheating or required to go to a much higher difficulty where the fun can start to drain. (In previous card games I've played my groups called it the %1 zone. Where the difficulty is so high and so precisely tuned that only %1 of decks/cards are playable as opposed to a healthy %20 at high difficulty.) So Kurt being strong, fun feeling but not so strong that he just arbitrary throws the game out is a HUGE benefit.

Thanks Ritsy! And you make really valid points. I can totally see the case for putting him in A tier, I was so close to doing that too! The only thing that put him down for me was when i compared him other A tier heroes but you could argue that’s unfair if im just evaluating this single hero. The reason i wanted to put him in the A tier was for similar reasons you listed. I think he’s the strongest hero without allies (sorry Shadowcat 😅) and his ability to be self sustained is off the charts. Despite that, i chose to compare that with other heroes using optimized decks with allies and Nightcrawler fell a little short. Without allies, Nightcrawler is top tier amongst other heroes. With allies, Nightcrawler got a minimal boost in power, while other heroes that don’t have Kurt’s insane survivability got a bigger boost with allies. It’s all a matter of perspective and my criteria being very specific and different. But i agree he’s super fun either way and I’m also glad he’s not overpowered 😁

Thanks Bruce! I was very tempted to give him an A tier ranking, but by my own criteria i had to give asterisks so he was just short unfortunately. I’m really glad you enjoyed this review and appreciate the kind words :)
I was having fun with him in Protection but the lack of damage in solo made me switch to Aggression and he’s much better. Granted, I mostly play solo but rushing is super easy, especially with defending without exhausting.
Yea i feel that. The damage is definitely a little lackluster but i agree that rushcrawler in red is 💯💯💯
I totally agree, he can feel really powerful especially in multiplayer where his low damage isn’t as noticeable but when you evaluate his whole kit he probably is on that high B tier low A tier ranking. That being said I think he’s S+ tier in terms of fun which to me is always more important!

I feel like I fall right in between hair up and hair down web warrior. He’s high B for me from the playthroughs I’ve seen. Maybe that will change a bit more once I play him myself when he comes in today.
I do think I agree more with your second evaluation though at the end.

I tested/played Nightcrawler in all 5 aspect in expert mode. I really like the bamf mechanic and I think that with the right built he's playable/enjoyable in all the aspect equally. I like to play in heroic mode with the top 12-15 heroes and as you I feel that Nightcrawler isn't in that top list. He has very good stats, very low cost cards but the absence in his set of cards to confuse the villain (and only 1 to stun) make him not easy to go/stay in alter ego: he suffer too much villains with multiple encounter/surge cards and with a lot of threat to remove (as you noticed Ronan and Venom Goblin are the "must" test for establishing the strenght of a hero) and I don't think at the moment to play him in Heroic mode...maybe only vs the medium/low strenght villains.
Worded perfectly! I don’t know if i ever described as well you as did, but i agree that Ronan/Venom Goblin give me the best litmus test for a hero. I thought Kurt was potentially even S tier until i tried my hand against the toughest scenarios. He’s still amazing and fun, but i definitely overestimated him
I'm too overestimated him and I'm still trying to understand why. He has the x-men trait so has access to the sinergy of the best allies and some of the best cards in the game. Defending without exaust is great so you cannot avoid to play bamf every turn and this means in most situation 1 resource to rescue it and then attach it...this left you with 4 cards in hands every turn. Building a thematic deck for defense or attack rush means limiting the number of x-men allies and of other strong cards (Utopia and Uncanny x-men just to make an example). Maybe the truth is on the middle way: playing the classic x-men built with a lot of basic allies...strongest to play but less fun for his interesting new mechanics.
@@VincenzoSolazzi yea im not sure why either. On paper he looks amazing and he’s so strong in perfect defense, but i just think this shows the limitations of perfect defense as a whole.

A ready “action” is more proactive. Bamf! has its own advantages dont get me wrong but in terms of calculating Nightcrawler’s ability to use his basic exhaust, if he gets an encounter card that requires him to exhaust himself, it’s extremely difficult for him to ready back up
that is so but he can still bamf while exhausted yeah? So i think he deserves the check mark!
Interesting conclusion. I agree with all the checkmarks, except this hero earns a second checkmark from me in the first Survivability column. He's the only hero that can defend twice per round without any help (apart from Quicksilver, but he's pretty trash), so that makes Kurt just about indestructible if played right. So for me he gets 10 checks which makes him A-tier.
That’s fair. So double checkmark for 1 category?! I hadn’t thought of that but i feel like that’s fair giving his easy access to Bamf! which makes him arguably the best hero at having survivability on his identity card
I have him at low A-Tier. I don't personally think having a hard time against the two hardest villains makes him B. I do think he needs aspect cards to shore up survivability and minion control, but I would give him the check for small instances because of the cutlasses' retaliate. Happy to have your thoughts and I thought your review was super fair even if we disagree.
Thanks Rathamak! You make a good point for retaliate adding to small instances of damage-i should have mentioned that in the video. I personally don’t think it’s enough to get a check because Kurt feels stifled by stuns/getting exhausted, and although the relatiate is great at pinging off enemy toughs, Kurt has to take an enemy attack first to trigger it. That being said i think you having him at low A tier is totally valid. I’m still going back and forth on it tbh
Nightcrawler's interesting because his attack score is so low for his kit but he's unironically really good in aggression with Toe to Toe, Take That, Mean Swing, and Fusillade lol.
Maybe that was even intentional by the designers. Those weapon exhaust events in particular are insane with Kurt’s Cutlasses!
He is a lot of fun. I am excited to play him in some multiplayer games!
Yea he’s a blast to play either way! He only gets more fun at higher player counts 😁
It is fair to rank him as B-tier. It isn't counting his fun factor which is huge. I think he's A-tier but his health and damage are issues that the player needs to aware of and prepare for. I really like stepford cuckoos, taunt and return the favor for Nightcrawler to avoid a really bad encounter card, increase draw and bump up damage. Throw in a Nick Fury and he's great but those cats can be used with anyone - his main thing is bamf and Defense stat - Captain America can ready by discarding any card. I'm going to play several back to back Captain America & Nightcrawler games with the same exact non hero cards in the hero deck against the same exact villain to see what happens and how they feel in back to back game play
Thats fair! All the cards you mentioned can really help improve Kurt’s consistency in what he’s able to do. I agree his fun factor is huge either way and this one was difficult for me to evaluate. I’m excited to hear the results with Captain America, that’s a very interesting comparison
@@webwarriorfanatic I think I'm noticing my new hero bias more - I've played a few back to back protection nightcrawler/captain america games against the Sentinels/reavers encounter deck and I'm doing better with protection cap so far. Uh-oh...could I just be too stoked on a new hero???
@@gnarlantlers70 i feel you haha. I think im too biased for him too… he may not be a top 5 favorite anymore for me 😅😅
