    You can hear this dude who is an absolute purist by the sounds of it right from the beginning that he really dislikes the fender.. I own two fender newport speakers and all i can say is that if you have never heard one in person at full blast on your favorite song, you cannot dare comment. These little buggers are on another level. One of the best sounding bluetooth speakers I've ever heard in my life according to it's size. You would never believe the sound that comes out of such a small form factor...

    Recently picked up a Fender Newport to check out first hand. Very decent speaker for the asking piece, mono so not an expansive sound, equally the Newport has aptX which makes a difference adding to the clarity if you have the hardware. Sound is pleasing and one of the more analogue sounding BT speaker's that I've tried offering a warm and powerful rendition, great for it's intended purpose rock etc. Best played below max volume, although the Newport is loud for it's size.
    Doesn't suffer from the over processing that many others do to fake deeper base, range, sound stage etc. takes a little time to get the best of the speaker, a couple of day I found. Newport is not overly sensitive to positioning and all in a very enjoyable speaker to listen to. Don't be put off by the mono output as the Newport sounds and is a lot better than many at the same price point and more. Aesthetics personally don't care with the audio quality being my priority, functional is plain and simple.
    Simple way I would put it, if you like music, your going to like the Fender Newport.

    From what I'm hearing, the Fender has more upper range detail. The Denon sounds warmer and has a slight boxy sound to it. Nice thing about the Fender is you can manually adjust the bass/treble from the unit itself. The Newport is currently $79.99 at Adorama, which is a good price on this one.

    The volume, bass and treble knob on the Fender are the same as the Fender guitar amps, which is replicated by Fender. There are some brands like Marshall who has the bass knob on the left. Mesa has the same like Fender, Peavey is constructed same as Marshall.

    I prefer the mids and mid detail slightly on the fender(although maybe seems slightly upper mid bright), but overall as a package the denon is still the winner as you said esp given that it has stereo.

    Fender Newport * Very clear, no hidden highs for percussion or vocals but no stereo and falls off on lower volume. Denon sounds like it could use more tweeter at times. (like it was recorded in Dolby with a cassette tape). The Viva sounds wonderful but the price and the fact it looks like a bad woman's purse doesn't help it either.

    Bass and treble pots are a great idea - pity they used an algorithm to effectively disable their effect on the sound at higher volume levels.
    All to cater for consumers who can’t handle any distortion without freaking out and instantly declaring their new speaker as faulty. :-)
    BTW, thank you for another great review.

    I think the Denon can be made to sound just as loud as the Fender if it applies some heavy bass reduction, but I'm glad it doesn't, in my oppinion cutting bass just to sound louder is a cheap move from the speaker manufacturers.

    love this site and your fair comparisons. However, I love the Fender and I think that the positioning (not against a firm background) did put it at a disadvantage. I would have loved to hear the Marschall Emberton in the same review as this is the more appropriate comparison for the Envaya. But still a big thumps up!

  • @AGLADHEART
    @AGLADHEART 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Interesting. I actually don't mind the welcome tones and not the Fender they are different than most. I like the retro design, as it reminds me of the Kilburn. The sound does not not overwhelm me enough to make me want to make the purchase. The Mono soundstage is limiting so I think it would be a drawback for me when listening to jazz and contemporary gospel. The Helsinki would be my personal choice but the price is still prohibitive. Since the Denon is truly a beautiful sounding speaker, it is a purchase I can comfortably make. Thanks for the comparison.

    I really don't get this design. It doesn't look like an amp. They could have put controls on the front or something. Like the ability to have this sorta equalizer option directly on the speaker and also seems like it sounds much better with rock track than Denon. Assuming that that's the target audience guess that's nice .
    What are thoughts on buying denon envaya here? I can get it for 170 euros here in Croatia. Any new users of the speaker here now after holidays have passed? Thinking of buying something from Anker too just to save some money but I'm not sure how satisfied would I be with sound.

  • @russelldawkins9094
    @russelldawkins9094 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    The first thing I would have done would have been to try to more closely match the Denon's tonality by turning down the treble control on the Fender. It's obviously boosted in the treble and that affects all the back and forth comparisons with the Denon, which actually always did sound a little rolled off in the treble in all the comparisons you have made so far. I think your initial setting of the treble conrol to 5 just because ot is halfway between 0 and 10 was a faulty move without at least auditioning the effect of the various treble settings to find out if a more reasonable high/low balance could be achieved. All through the comparisons I was thinking to myself "turn the treble down!" every time you switched to the Fender. Frustrating.
    Imagining the sound with the treble down near zero, as we heard briefly around 2:25, the bass was often preferable to my ears on the Fender and the big question was the difference in distortion through the midrange, which sounds low on the Denon, but the midrange was masked on the Fender by the excessive treble. And you had a treble control to adjust it!!

    I’ve been playing this with my iPad Pro and very happy with the sound. Recently got me an LG V30 with its quad dac and I just found the Newport support aptx. I got some flac and wav files and try these with the Newport and LG phone. Wow the sound is so amazing wired or with Bluetooth. I don’t agree with Oluv that’s its boomy putting it near a wall. The bass is solid and the sound maintains its clarity. I hate boomy bass I should know.

    • @oluvsgadgets
      @oluvsgadgets  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      the problem is rather strong bass loss at high levels, the Vifa maintains the same quality up to maximum being way louder at the same time.
      the Fender is decent, but it is not some game changer.

    • @zahriatan1946
      @zahriatan1946 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Vifa is way more expensive and I use this for personal listening. I’ve got a good HiFi system and If I want it loud I use that which is very seldom. At the volume level that I listen to its more than good enough before and it’s great now with the LG quad DAC and Hi Res music I am able to play. I never like the metallic bass dominated sound of the charge 4 for example although I see praises everywhere for it. The lack of stereo effect is maybe the only thing that’s why I’m currently looking for another speaker for variety.

      clavinetjunkie I have compared it to the Killburn and the Xtreme on smouth jazz so the killburn sound more artificial and the xtreme has too much bass. The only problem on the Fender is the mono sound but it sound balanced, clear and natural. I would like to compare it to the Portable Beatbox of Monster/Beats.

    • @practicalguy973
      @practicalguy973 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you intend to sit directly in front and close to the speaker then stereo would be okay. I haven't heard a stereo small Bluetooth speaker that really produces a great image because they can not having the drivers so close together, you just get a little stereo partial effect with a little width added to the sound so maybe its not a big deal being mono for most people. For me I have a proper hifi stereo with separated left and right speakers for real stereo sound.

    • @toomuchinformation

      Moonfaker I don't like them personally, but very helpful if you're blind, as are vocal guides telling you that your device is connected, battery level etc.

      Oh yeah, never thought of that.

    • @svenlima
      @svenlima 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Moonfaker. I absolutely agree. The argument that it's helpful for blind people is quite weak because in that case every (!) electric/electronic device should have a welcome sound: Washing machine, toaster, oven, razor, bathtub (when it's full), microwave etc. etc. No sound needed - you turn it on and then you can use it; if not you can't use it - which means that it's not turned on ... :-)

    • @toomuchinformation
      @toomuchinformation 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sven Lima Well they ARE helpful for blind people, although I don't think that's the reason why companies have them. The other examples you mentioned (apart from the bathtub - is that an electric/electronic device?) are already on standby, so they're always on. They start making a noise when they're being used. So a welcome tone is redundant.
      A Bluetooth speaker is different and has two stages: 1) Turning it on and 2) Connecting the device via Bluetooth so it can be used.. In that sense it helps to differentiate between the different stages sonically.

    The Fender is built like a tank and the battery is very good. Stereo sound is overrated in a small blue tooth speaker. I have had it for two years and it’s still the same . Can’t say the same for many others. Very good value for money now with current price. Depends on what you need it for. At home it’s fantastic for the beach and parties buy something like the JBL. Fender sounds like u r listen to a live show which is in front of u like a stage directional sound but clear and good sound other speaker have some kind of processed sound to make it feel good to u but i feel it’s kind of fake fender feels more natural or real sound i guess

    The Fender is cheaper than the Denon and way cheaper than the Helsinki. Sound is not much different.

      clavinetjunkie Compared to denon ofcourse. It sounds clearer, more natural, crunchy and crisp to me. Fender sounds only worth at maximum volume compared to denon, yes thats true but it is also way louder.
      And vifa is whole another world compared to both of them.

    • @Stan-pv3xu
      @Stan-pv3xu 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      clavinetjunkie I guess the fullness of denons sound comes from stereo.
      Btw. i do like them both and for the money you get a lot of high qualiy sound.

      I am more impressed with the Denon. It is 1/3 the size and still sounds bigger.

    $199 is a steep price. I can get a Bose for that price and Bose blows this one away. I have a Roland JC BT Speaker that was only $69 and sounds pretty decent but the Bass could be better when trying to use deep Bass.

    Hallo Oluv, ich denke du hast meine Nachricht in deinem vorherigen Video nicht gesehen, deswegen versuche ich es nochmal hier. "Hey Oluv. Ich bin zwar auch nicht der reichste, würde aber gerne meinem lieblings TH-camr etwas spenden. Leider habe ich nicht herausgefunden wie ich dir Geld senden kann. Der Privatnachricht Button ist leider nicht zu finden. Deswegen schreibe ich einen Kommentar. Das mit deinem Hund hat mich sehr berührt. Ich habe letztes Jahr meine geliebte kleine Katze verloren. Für dein gutes Herz und deinen tollen Videos würde ich dir gerne etwas zukommen lassen."
    Liebe Grüße

      no I don't know because in reality the Vifa wiped the floor with it especially at high levels, and the Denon is less than half the size and still sounds more impressive.
