That's why you should use the Townshend podiums underneath any speaker, the podiums isolate down to three hz, most significant upgrade you can make to your system, the sound improvement is as if you upgraded your electronics to something more expensive.
I am afraid the ball bearing design sounds completely nuts. The speakers would start to swing with every impulse thus naturally distorting impulse reproduction. You could equally hang the speakers on a cord from the ceiling.

Id really like to hear these speakers in my system! It will never happen, because they are way beyond my financial ability. The way that they affected you really interests me! Aluminium is cold indeed, just as glass or stone. But MDF is equally bad because it sucks the life out of music. Maybe this is the best way to build a box speaker. They really look awesome 😊 (No SCREWS visible🎉) Hope to hear them in the future.
High end audio products coming from South Korea is foreign for the North American market and it looks like we are missing out big time. Need them to be brought here. Always sucks that it’s such a niche market.
Hi Jay, I have the Platimon speakers and enjoy their sound quality. I've tried both the SPL crossover and now the JLAudio CR-1 crossover to a pair of +2 Linkwitz open baffle bass speakers, but the Platimon's are good enough for the music I listen to and my space. I'm a near-field listener, so don't play that loud. I am considering returning to the Platimon's without a subwoofer, but I am now wondering about the power amp. The AGD is good, and I have it. The Bruno would be a new purchase; I don't know anything about that company. I'm using a Bricasti M12 DAC and AGD Temp diGan stereo amplifier and the Platimon's. Would the Bruno amp that you have be a more excellent combination? I've never used 6L6 tubes in an amp (I like 45 tubes compared to 300B or 2A3, but I need more power for the Platimon speakers). I see the AGD mono amps in your review space, so I ask what you think of those connected to the Platimons. You have them and didn't mention them in your review, so I'm assuming they differed from the match you were looking for. You probably connected them, but who knows.
You should experience loudspeakers with Woofers.................. It's been two years since you've auditioned a 12" woofer equipped loudspeaker. You'll be amazed.

Wealthiest country in human history with a piss poor citizen experience compared to other civilized nations. APAC has it going on and as a consumer I’d love to access more products from these nations.
Before we start knocking America, let’s just remember these speakers use German drivers and American tweeters. It’s a mix of the East and the West. Not sure when American technology became antiquated and barbaric.

If you get somewhat fatigued using tube amps, that begs the question of what it sounds like with solid state. Any review must include solid state amps in addition to tubes.
@@Jayiyagi The Billie amp has a solid state power amp, but a tube pre-amp stage (which will definitely change the character of the sound). I meant a completely solid state pre-amp and power amp, since the majority of people have that configuration. Do you still have a Hegel integrated amp laying around.

Do the speaker cables impact the warmth of these speakers? I love warm-ish speakers, and the manufacturer seems to suggest the Sanctus cables...I wam wonder if that is a very special combination, or whether there are speaker cables that work magically with these speakers? I always thought that the best way to reduce speaker cabinet vibration is to anchor it to something heavy and stable like concrete slab under flooring.

do they really need to be 2 feet from the wall. sometimes thats just not doable. just looked they only have the silver color in stock, whoever thought silver was a good idea should be fired.

He will prob line the insides with a sheet of NoRez. Change the mondorf caps, inductors and resistors to sonicap and miflex (prob will also add bypass caps). Change the freq response to be flat from 200hz and up that he measures (although that 3-9khz region was lowered slightly on purpose due to it being a sensitive area for the tweeter used and its the region that can cause fatigue - according to Jun) If you like that, then go for it!

How do you compare the Platimon sound to that of the Mon Mini? Also, did you try them with your Purifi NAD C298/Terminator Plus combo? Would that be too “hyperdetailed”? 😮 Very interesting videos on both the designer and his speakers. Thanks.
Mon mini is a great little monitor with spectacular imaging as well but it wasn’t THAT surprising to me because mini monitors are known for that. I was more surprised with how full the mini sounded. With the Platimons, the imaging is even better than the mini even though it is bigger. Fuller sounding which isn’t surprising but it is more full sounding than I expected for this size. And yes, I think that combo would be too detailed for my long term listenings but def a good combo if you are after ultimate transparency, detail and dynamics
Interesting that Jay & yourself (both with Danny's open baffle reference experience) have completely different opinions regarding these speaker's. Jay uses Danny's reference designs as his daily listener's and seemingly was much less impressed with these. Many glowing reviews so there is definitely some magic present with these. Jay will not be replacing his reference with these speaker's. "Best of all time" ? Even after experiencing Danny's reference rig? Ok then...How do these stack up with any of your GR Research speaker's?
@@Jayiyagi Some of Danny's offerings (even the inexpensive ones) compete at this price level in most cases. If I remember right you directly compared 10K bookshelves to your kit speaker's and they more than held their own, correct? But against these tonally they fall short...Still would love to hear them. maybe I'll catch them at a show soon.

Jay, have you paired it with the Kinki ex-b7 mono blocks or with the ex-m1+ integrated. I’m looking at that pairing with a Lumin S1 streamer Dac that is known for being a very musical unit. Wondering what your thoughts if you have paired them together is or if you think it would be a good synergy if you haven’t but from your experience.
Did you try them with your ADG Audion's? I purchased a pair of those right after hearing your review and couldn't be happier. Just like you I was blown away from the first. Using them with my Focal Sopra 2's. I also just did a second upgrade that produced another whole level of listening pleasure; the PS Audio CD transport coupled to my Holo May DAC. All my old CD sound great and DSD's are magical. I think Paul's "Air Lens" really does work as advertised. PS: I am thinking of these speakers for use in my vacation condo and love the fact you mentioned they sound great at lower levels. Looking forward to your review on the Brunoco. "Every action has an equal and opposite reaction." Or something to that effect. One of those pesky laws of physics. With that in mind, I'd forego the ball bearings in favour of spikes. Every push of the drivers will move the cabinets in the opposite direction. I took measurements of my centre channel on its stand, which had spiked feet and then swapped them for castors. Same stand. Guess which measured cleaner? Those bearings will muddy the sound, even if only minutely. Will one notice? Who knows. But why spend all that effort and money just to take a step backwards?
Man, I'm a sucker for ribbons. When applied well, it's the only tech I've heard that's very detailed while being easygoing and effortless. I've yet to hear a dynamic speaker up to at least 30k USD that has better treble than ribbons. Beryllium comes close, but I can still tell it's a metal dome. Soft domes are great, but not nearly as detailed and quick. Didn't hear any planars yet (PS audio?).
Every time i hear this review ( a few by now) i think ...o.k. i really had always a think for monitors , i love a good soundstage and imaging , I think i am going to have and search if these are represented where i live .
Jay, after watching this video and seeing how much you love this speaker: do you think this size of speaker is the best for imaging of the soundstage? I’m trying to choose between an open baffle with 15inch drivers, or something similar to this with 15inch subs - would love to hear your take as you have had some pretty big floor standers in your room 🤔

What if you would make a video in which you select a number of music/songs and then explain what you hear soundwise. Then I (and the other people) can hear and compare what you hear and what I hear. Why is most rap music recorded so badly? Is it the time, effort or money the band is willing to allocate to the recording or mastering of the album or something else?
Movies and TV are two different beasts that utilize the same medium. Ditto for music and rap. Maybe it's an attempt to relay street cred and anger. Or maybe the money behind the performers won't spend the cash on quality mastering cuz they're greedy (if the TV dramas are any indication. Haha!) I'm just spitballing here but there has to be a reason rap sounds painful. Or maybe it's wrong for purveyors of quality recording and mastering to expect the same effort. I mean, let's face it - WE are the exception, not the rule. (But for what it's worth, I think most of today's music is terribly mastered, with a few exceptions. And I'm a voracious listener. I listen to everything I can get my mitts on.)

The frequency response reminds me a little of some Sony speakers. 100Hz 1kHz 10kHz rises. It does lend itself to a sound that can be intriguing

60hz is about where directivity ends for the ear & stereo image ( left & right make sense) I do it on all my systems and start the SUB below 60hz

The wires for inside crossover was made with the Sanctus wires the same as F1 Signature speaker cables. That’s why they are recommending.

That is one way of doing it, you won't have any floor resonance the same as isolating a speaker from a floor by using stands.

Very different. Price difference is very obvious and justified.
Why use Aluminum when you just have to fix the resonance and clinical sound, stick to the basics, no fixing required….

They don’t “need” to be. It’s not an absolute and certainly different rooms behave differently where having it close to the wall could work.

How do you compare the Platimon sound to that of the Mon Mini?
Also, did you try them with your Purifi NAD C298/Terminator Plus combo? Would that be too “hyperdetailed”? 😮

Mon mini is a great little monitor with spectacular imaging as well but it wasn’t THAT surprising to me because mini monitors are known for that. I was more surprised with how full the mini sounded. With the Platimons, the imaging is even better than the mini even though it is bigger. Fuller sounding which isn’t surprising but it is more full sounding than I expected for this size.
And yes, I think that combo would be too detailed for my long term listenings but def a good combo if you are after ultimate transparency, detail and dynamics

Interesting that Jay & yourself (both with Danny's open baffle reference experience) have completely different opinions regarding these speaker's. Jay uses Danny's reference designs as his daily listener's and seemingly was much less impressed with these. Many glowing reviews so there is definitely some magic present with these. Jay will not be replacing his reference with these speaker's. "Best of all time" ? Even after experiencing Danny's reference rig? Ok then...How do these stack up with any of your GR Research speaker's?
I personally prefer the Platimon's tonal character and staging presentation but they are also a more expensive offering
@@Jayiyagi Some of Danny's offerings (even the inexpensive ones) compete at this price level in most cases. If I remember right you directly compared 10K bookshelves to your kit speaker's and they more than held their own, correct? But against these tonally they fall short...Still would love to hear them. maybe I'll catch them at a show soon.

Jay, have you paired it with the Kinki ex-b7 mono blocks or with the ex-m1+ integrated. I’m looking at that pairing with a Lumin S1 streamer Dac that is known for being a very musical unit. Wondering what your thoughts if you have paired them together is or if you think it would be a good synergy if you haven’t but from your experience.
Did you try them with your ADG Audion's? I purchased a pair of those right after hearing your review and couldn't be happier. Just like you I was blown away from the first. Using them with my Focal Sopra 2's. I also just did a second upgrade that produced another whole level of listening pleasure; the PS Audio CD transport coupled to my Holo May DAC. All my old CD sound great and DSD's are magical. I think Paul's "Air Lens" really does work as advertised. PS: I am thinking of these speakers for use in my vacation condo and love the fact you mentioned they sound great at lower levels. Looking forward to your review on the Brunoco. Sounds like the perfect setup for me. Thanks for another great review.

With that in mind, I'd forego the ball bearings in favour of spikes. Every push of the drivers will move the cabinets in the opposite direction.
I took measurements of my centre channel on its stand, which had spiked feet and then swapped them for castors. Same stand. Guess which measured cleaner?
Those bearings will muddy the sound, even if only minutely. Will one notice? Who knows. But why spend all that effort and money just to take a step backwards?
Man, I'm a sucker for ribbons. When applied well, it's the only tech I've heard that's very detailed while being easygoing and effortless. I've yet to hear a dynamic speaker up to at least 30k USD that has better treble than ribbons. Beryllium comes close, but I can still tell it's a metal dome. Soft domes are great, but not nearly as detailed and quick. Didn't hear any planars yet (PS audio?).

Hi Jay, thank you for all your video's. I really love them. What I was thinking about is following: Every person has a different hearing. I would really like to compare my hearing with you. What if you would make a video in which you select a number of music/songs and then explain what you hear soundwise. Then I (and the other people) can hear and compare what you hear and what I hear. It doesn't translate music over a TH-cam video it's like listen to music with earplugs in another room. Look into it.
Why is most rap music recorded so badly? Is it the time, effort or money the band is willing to allocate to the recording or mastering of the album or something else?
Movies and TV are two different beasts that utilize the same medium. Ditto for music and rap.
Maybe it's an attempt to relay street cred and anger. Or maybe the money behind the performers won't spend the cash on quality mastering cuz they're greedy (if the TV dramas are any indication. Haha!)
I'm just spitballing here but there has to be a reason rap sounds painful.
Or maybe it's wrong for purveyors of quality recording and mastering to expect the same effort. I mean, let's face it - WE are the exception, not the rule.
(But for what it's worth, I think most of today's music is terribly mastered, with a few exceptions. And I'm a voracious listener. I listen to everything I can get my mitts on.)
