"It never was and it never will be..."
    ___________
Sorry for the lack of uploads! I haven't had much energy to edit (been sick with pneumonia) and was also busy with school.
But this song came on my playlist for the first time in a LONG time, and it reminded me of Akito so much.
I know this might rub people the wrong way, but just making it clear that I absolutely DESPISE Akito. The reveal wasn't shocking to me since I'd already known, and it didn't soften me up to her. Abusers are still abusers, regardless of gender. So this video isn't done out of love for her - although I certainly do love how well written and amazing her character is. This video was done to show the harm she's inflicted on others and how abusive she is. That's it.

For people who think Akito it's the villan from Fruits Basket.... you don't know her mother, Ren. Akito it's obviously a abuser, but all stars because Ren. I believe Akito was a victim from another abuser and become one for this reason.

Oh, I definitely agree! I know from spoilers that Ren is the primary root of Akito's abusive behavior. The phrase "hurt people hurt people" applies so much here. Akito is a victim of abuse as well, and she didn't deserve what happened to her. She was a little girl who became messed up and twisted because of what she endured. As an abuse victim myself, and now a psychology major, Akito is one of those characters that I do feel sympathy for, and understand what made her this way. It isn't difficult to see what it was that caused this behavior.
As a child, she evokes sympathy. She took out of her own pain on child Yuki and others to feel better about herself. She clearly needed help and the adults around her miserably failed her. They all enabled this behavior instead of realizing that this was a broken, unstable kid who needed therapy more than she needed to be the Zodiac God. I honestly blame the adults, Ren, the maids, even Shigure and Kureno - for allowing this to fester and grow into what we see now.
Where I draw the line is adult Akito. She's old enough now to realize what she's doing is wrong. There are people around her who care about her and can explain to her that her actions are not acceptable. I realize that Ren is still in the picture causing more trauma to Akito. However, Akito is an adult and is making her own choices. It isn't like she's NEVER known love: her father loved her so much that he put it into her head that she HAS to be loved by EVERYONE and people not liking her is not acceptable. Her father is just as much to blame for what happened, honestly. Akito is a child that was never told "no"; she was told she could have whatever she wanted. She was GOD, after all. Instead of festering that belief, Akira could've been a balance before he died. But that didn't happen.
Akito experienced love, not just hate. She knows the difference, and could've chosen in her later years to be better, because she didn't know JUST abuse. She willfully chose to abuse because it made HER feel better, and she does it because she likes inflicting pain on others. I know for a fact that I will not forgive her when the series ends. I understand her, and I feel sympathy, but I do not forgive what she's done. I like that the series itself tells us that we don't have to, either. It's valid to continue to despise her and what she's done, and it's valid to forgive her.
I love her as an antagonist. She's so amazingly well-written and is so representative of real-life abusers. But I hate who she is as a person, and even knowing that she has a redemption arc, my feelings are this: "Thank you for getting better. I'm proud of that. I'm proud that you got the strength to change. But also fuck you for doing what you did, for hurting others and inflicting trauma on them."
It's pretty much how I feel towards my father: I sympathize with him, because he was abused, too. But then he abused me, and I'll never forgive him for it, and I know that doesn't mean that I haven't "moved past" my trauma: I'm not excusing what was done to me just because my parent suffered the same.
In Akito''s case, she, for years, chose not to confront and move past her own trauma. She used it as a crutch to justify her actions, so my sympathy stops there. I hope that makes sense? Thanks for your comment!

@@MyVampireEyes I do agree. I cannot forgive Akito after all the things she's done but I actually pity her than hate her. The only person I hate is Ren Sohma more than anyone because she made Akito who she is. While all the Zodiacs and the Sohma were victims of Akito's wraith and abuse, Akito was also a victim herself from her own mother Ren Sohma

@@MyVampireEyes Wow. That was an incredibly well written description of Akito's character. I like her too. She is one of my favorite villains. Still I know she has done some messed up things. So I totally understand if her victims dislike her. A major one is Yuki. Yuki and Akito are two of my favorite characters in Fruits Basket. Yuki did the right think when he tried running away. The best thing for a victim to do is escape the abuser. This ends up hapenning at the end of the story. The curse is broken. So the former zodiac members leave Akito. I think this breaking is a very fitting punishment for Akito. If she doesn't treat people with respect and decency, she looses her privalage to stay with them. Akito does show signs of improvement toward the end. Tohru gave some nice intervention. Akito stops being so possesive and lets everybody go. That is nice. Akito may need a lot more work after the series ends. Changing people is a slow process.I think it will be worth it though.

The adults who let ALL the abuse continue are the villains (includes Kureno) Ren is a villain. Akito is a villain.
Feel for the victim but not the abuser. Akito is both and lost all empathy the second she became the abuser and knew it was wrong.

I completely agree with your description but I'm curious of what the hell happened for her to snap like she did, I mean, she was a brat in the flashbacks but not evil like she is now so, why? It was because Kureno's curse broke or something else happened. Don't answer please it's just a rhetorical question.

    • @MyVampireEyes
      @MyVampireEyes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Hahaha! I agree! She seemed like a sweet kid before what ever happened changed her. It makes me sympathize with her as a kid, but as an adult, I don't, since she has people in her life that do love her and are capable of not enabling her behavior.

I knew about the reveal as well and it changes nothing. She's clearly an abuser and as you said, gender doesn't matter in that case.

Kahnah!! Omg it's been so long since I last talked to you! How have you been?
Thank you! Yeah, like I have sympathy for Akito, especially as a child, don't get me wrong. Something happened to her to make her this way. However, she's now an adult and is enabled by those around her. Even knowing what I know about her past - she can be sympathized with, but at the end of the day, she's still an abuser and her actions are inexcusable. She's hurt these children to the point where it's taken them years and maybe longer to get into a healthy mindset. Just because she endured some horrible crap doesn't give her an excuse to abuse others.

@@MyVampireEyes Haha, still alive and kicking as you see! I hope you're doing fine as well!
Akito is clearly a tragic character, especially as a child. However she grew up and has to take responsibility for her own actions; which she is not doing.

Thank you so much!!! Oh my God if you ever get the chance.... I honestly cannot recommend this anime/manga enough. It's such a heartbreaking and beautiful story. It honestly makes me cry like every episode, either in happiness or in misery lol. There's so much nuance to it, and almost every single character is lovable.
Yes, she really is. I'm sorry that, if you do watch at some point, that this reveal was accidentally spoiled for you lol. It was such a huge thing, because everyone thought that she was a male. She is very much a narcissist as well, and seeing the abuse she directs at everyone around her, who are all trying to heal and move past it, is very difficult to stomach. But it's rewarding to see them come out the other side stronger and better, and that's where this series truly shines. The positivity, love, and healing is unmatched to any other series, I feel like.
