    There are a ton of tennis drills for kids out there but this could be the most important one. When it comes to developing tennis players teaching is greatly missing. There is no right or wrong way to hit a tennis ball but research has shown that high level tennis players share remarkably similar fundamentals. Fundamentals which DO NOT come naturally. Please subscribe to our youtube channel to learn all of the key positions we use for each essential stroke and the incorporate them into your next shadowswing! The tennis world need this so bad we should start a hashtag... #shadowswingwithkids

    Have you ever done a shadowswing with your player!?

      I like to do it facing the players (switching from RH to LH as necessary) so we can be mirror images of each other. That way I can keep my eyes on the kids, and it gives them a good model for practicing in front of a mirror on their own.

      @@patrickweston3293 Good points! I once heard that the brain takes in more when it doesn't have to reverse the image. Kinda stuck on that but I should try changing it up sometimes.

    Shadowing is a fun and effective way for kids to pick up the basics of tennis! My little one loves mimicking the pros, and it's amazing how quickly their strokes are improving. This video gave us some great new drills to try, and I love how you kept it light and engaging for kids. Thanks for sharing! 💯🎾

    I love the way you handle all aspects, today my 1st 3 trainings with kids and your content, pun intended served me well, yes more teaching, shadow swings, checkpoints. Pretty much copied what I watched yesterday. Wish you all he best, I can but humbly say thank you for your posting videos and dedication to teaching the sport properly to beginners. You saved me from a potential nervous breakdown. No joke....

    This is an excellent program that I would suggest to anyone. Both of my sons participate(Ages 4&8). Coach Jeff is the best. Short term goals(correct backhand form) and long-term goals(playing collegiate tennis) are expressed and emphasized on a regular basis. The kids have a lot of fun, but the underlying emphasis is always perfecting tennis fundamentals. I like that they are striving to achieve a goal(but just happen to be having a lot of fun in the process). I am a highly satisfied parent of the program.

    Thanks for this. Indeed. Too many youngsters are praised for simply getting the ball over the net - the path to incorrect & flawed muscle memory. The tennis stroke, like the alphabet, is NOT programmed into the brain at birth, just like dogs don't have language ("no" "sit" or "stay", etc) programmed into their brains.
    For 10 and under, I prefer to teach the backhand before the forehand...

  • @MikeyFreshy
    @MikeyFreshy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Those kids did not care one bit about tennis. I feel as if shadow swing and stroke production is for kids who want to compete and play regularly. If kids are only playing once a week or once a month the goal should be fun games over technique.

    Tennis doesn't work like this. There might be a time and a place for exercises like this but this definitely is not the most important tennis drill for kids! Learn to play the game and people can find their way to play. Give guidance when necessary but ultimately get your players to learn to think for themselves in a game based environment.

    • @VictoryTennisPrograms
      @VictoryTennisPrograms  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes that is the industry standard. "Play to learn" not "Learn to play". Well intended to get more people in the game but I find the reason we lose those people is they simply don't improve past a certain point. Tennis is VERY counter intuitive and it has not been my experience that students "naturally" learn the fundamentals that matter. Information must be given and applied in a crawl before you walk manner if players will succeed en masse. The current standard is only allowing the lucky and talented to break through and that shouldn't be the case. Sorry but going to have to respectfully disagree.

    Why would you teach topspin swings to kids that can't hit a ball?? it's ridiculous.

    • @VictoryTennisPrograms
      @VictoryTennisPrograms  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes tennis is hard to learn. Just making contact with the ball is difficult. You need to find the right balance of ball handling and other drills where they just get to know racquet-eye coordination. That being said they should also be learning one of the most fundamental aspects of the game from the beginning. By not introducing and encouraging this counter intuitive information early enough you are risking the students building bad habits and not developing one of the most important parts of the game...ball striking. Patience and understanding is necessary by all parties when developing players properly. Thanks for the comment.

    Perfect example of a coach who works to much in the theory, but doesn’t understand the practical part. This is over all too much and too boring for the kids who play like 40 minutes each week. You have to think of other ways. Trigger them more.
