Reggaeton started as spanish reggae... Black Panamanians who parents came from Jamaica used to copy Jamaican reggae songs, translate them to spanish and call it spanish reggae. . Jamaican producers Steely and Clevie created the famous dem bow ( only nasty dudes eat vagina ) track for Shabba Ranks. Spanish reggae later became reggaeton in Puerto Rico. Big up to the black west Indians who took reggae to Latin America.
Now these people call it Latin music which its not ... they always tryna give Spain something... They call Salsa latin music which haitian migrants who migrated to Cuban created... they never give create to the true creaters smh
Spanish reggae did not become reggaeton. That’s like saying hip hop became reggaeton. Regaetton is a combine genre using the Jamaican beat and hip hop that was made by black and PR in NY
@You don’t Know me your either new to reggaeton or you are not into it. Don Omar and tego Calderon are dark and blow off reggaeton. They even have their own characters in fast and furious, along with their songs there
@You don’t Know me I agree with you. I had this problem as well. As reggeaton because global again, now other countries like Mexico, Spain, Colombia have artist. And those exact countries white wash celebrities, pushing a lot of the white artist/actors. Even in telemundo, actors are white, only told they dark is if they a maid. If labels would get more people from PR, we would have more dark skin artist. I feel like it’s becoming what rock n roll became to black people. Blacks made the genre, now other races over did it. It sucks because other countries hate PR, yet they marginalize on PR music
@@nooneknows9234 I didn’t know Haitian immigrants influenced salsa
Reggaeton is 'Gasolina' and not 'Despacito'. Often times ppl confuse latin urban Pop with Reggaeton, and despite they could sound the same, notice how old Reggaeton songs are like compared to nowdays songs, and you guys will realize currently it's about mostly latin urban Pop.
Yo... Gasolina, Perros Salvajes... those were the days man. Crazy stuff.
Its nothing latin about reggaeton which sound comes from Jamaicans who migrated to Panama.. Latin more associated with Spain!!! these sounds and dances are from other carribean islands none of it has to do with Latin
@@nooneknows9234 hip hop never came from Jamaica. The beats did. But not hip hop. Jamaica just did dancehall and reggae. Only comparison is the beat. Reggaeton use hip hop which was made by black and pr
@@nooneknows9234the riddim which is Jamaican in origin, is only one component out of many that make reggaeton, Reggaeton. It is not Jamaican music. If that was the case, then you would be hearing a plethora of Jamaican Reggaeton artists and songs. There are none 😂😂😂. Reggaeton was born in PR by combining the Dembow riddim, perreo (Puerto Rican underground music and dance) NY Hip-hop, and other Hispanic Caribbean genres( Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, Plena, and Bomba)
Same rhythm just additional synths, guitars and more skin colours
It all started with reggae
Don't forget Dancehall
Hip Hop rap infused with Jamaican beats, complemented by signature Hip Hop breaks.
I love making Reggeaton beats also Afro-pop because they have a lot of similarities
Check my beats of u need inspiration
Afro beats is the drum foundation for both reggae, reggaeton and latin music
@@FC-xc3zy but the dem bow beat, which is the foundation of reggaeton was made in the early 90s in Jamaica?
@@km0262 it does not matter. Did you study african percussion. If you did, then you wouldnt be so lost. I program both Latin music and reggae. There is little difference between the tow and thats why they love to use the dembow beat so much. Do you know Clevie, the producer who made the beat? I do...
@@FC-xc3zy But you said afrobeats is the foundation of reggae. Afrobeats is a fairly new genre of music. Afrobeat and afrobeats are different. Yes african drum pattern is the foundation of reggae.
At least they got the black Panama 🇵🇦 party correct

Reggaeton is not the biggest genre in the world. Rap is. You're welcome. My people created rap and Reggaeton is an imitation of Rap music which is black American, mixed with the Jamaican Dembow riddim. I think one of us originally came up with that too. A piano player. You're welcome.
This comment comes off as super butt-hurt, chill out. "You're welcome", lol.
Don't make everything a competition and just appreciate the music. You can take any modern genre and point at the millions of different influences upon it. All this shit is global and interconnected, no need to make it all about "ME, ME, ME".
Rap is not in the top charts, and rapping its just a little part of reggaeton, the biggest part is the riddim itself
Hip hop was made by black and Puerto Rican in NY. PR combined hip hop with Jamaican beats. Your welcome
Its actually called Poco Man Jam Riddim. The Name Dembow came from Shabba ranks song called "Dem Bow" which was made on the Poco Man Jam riddim
@@drwho9319 lol no jamaican created hip hop
When Jamaicans were bright to help build the pan Anna canal, that is how the sound was adapted by Puerto Ricans. Did she just say black Panamanians started it? 🤦🏾♀️
In spanish yes, those black panamanians are jamaican, jamaicans been going to panama since 1910s
The Dembow pattern came from Jamaican DJs who were messing with frequencies creating that rhythm..
Just like many Genres The Black Community is responsible for the concept but the Latino Community are responsible for bringing it to life, Reggaeton in English ain't reggaeton. Daddy y Yankee was a true pioneer.
Dem bow SONG is not even the first and thats not the name of the riddim. Its POCO MAN JAM but dem bow is so popular its often referred to that. Those beat patterns are not new they can be heard in mento/calypso music in different ways but most importantly Poco is not the first dancehall riddim that sounds like that

Where reggaeton will go? Listen to Rosalia - Motomami album. saoka!
taiko te amo
Tf it didnt start in panama is started in Jamaican 🤷🏿
80% of all reggaeton songs use the Dembow riddim And that was created by two black Jamaican producers Steelie & Clevie. Out of racial oppression of black people just like hip hop in the Bronx. They thought hip hop was going to be a phase/trend as well yet it is still here today.
@@koreyp2845 blah blah blah no one cares

Totally manipulated information. The only relevant here is tainy. But if you are interested into real reggaeton go listen to ñengo flow, hector el father, plan b, producers like Víctor el nazi, eliel, dj luian, luny tunes. I hate pop scene cause they are missinformating always and destroying the real culture. Shame on you.
Even with those producer the info is manipulated which is why even today you still have hispanics that are clueless to the origins
She says like in like every other sentence
You couldn't have gotten anyone Black to explain this? Also it's Hispanic not Spanish
Why allow the true origin of this publicly when you can white wash it?
