Tales of Legendia, what a game. This was my very first entry to the Tales series. I was hooked just by how cover boxed looked. This was when I was younger..lmao and I am glad I got this game. Didn't know what I was getting into and man what a emotional roller coaster this game was. Especially doing Moses character story
Honestly, Legendia is my second favorite Tales of game. Part of it is nostalgia, but part is that it took risks. It was flawed sure, but I enjoyed the characters, the plot was engaging, battles were fast paced. All the important elements, for me, were there :)
My brother and I loved this game when we played it. It was the first game of the Tales series that we played so maybe we benefitted from not comparing every single aspect of it to some other game and being able to just enjoy the fun and surprise it represented in our youthful ignorance. We'd laugh at Will Raynard every time a sweep of his broom would actually move an enemy out of range of Senel's attack, We couldn't stand Shirley's character and her seeming uselessness, and we were thrilled that after the game felt over there was more to play. We enjoyed battling Mimi bread and coming to understand how she could survive in areas on her own, rolled our eye's at the bantam bouncers, and reacted like children when Senel delivered a flurry of kicks to a Tiamet's nethers. As one of the few games we could get in a year with our limited childhood resources, we only really wanted it to be fun. And for us, it was.
Yeah, if I had to pick a Tales of game to be remade and updated, Legendia would be at the top of the list. There are also quite a bit of unused Ares from voice clips in the Japanese version, including at least two Hi-ougis (Mystic Artes as later Tales of games would call them) for each character. Speaking of the Japanese games, Rebirth also has the racism plot point...the game is also overall more complicated, including the battle system. (And oh god, the dungeon puzzles. Some dungeon puzzles require you to type out the answer.) Tales of Tempest does have a fan translation patch if you want to experience that game for yourself. (Although the readme, which has comments from all the translators, say how the game is better then I could)
I think Legendia's problems can be summed up to "Identity issues", it didn't fully understand what it could be, and thus hand a smaller scope. Because of that, maybe it is why they focused so much on the writing as best as they could?
it feels like a Tales game that should have been released before Symphonia, which makes sense since its early concepts were in planning as early as 2000. but Namco had Wolf Team make Tales of Destiny 2 instead.
I actually enjoyed Legendia! The characters were more engaging than some other tales of characters, the music was great, animated cut scenes awesome. I didn't mind the "chibi" art direction or the 2D fighting. I liked that once the main story was over you could continue on with each character's personal endings. One downside was that the names of everything were confusing terieques, merines, orosorean blah blah
Criminally underrated. Better than it’s successor, Tales of the Abyss. If I knew how to edit video games or whatever and change the title screen of this game to FF7 and I had someone unfamiliar with the Tales or Final Fantasy series, they wouldn’t notice. The music is almost as good as Chrono Cross. I would go so far to say that Tales of Legendia’s OST is only 2nd behind Chrono Cross’ OST.
So what you’re saying is Tales of Legendia is the Final Fantasy X-2 of the Tales series. Good to know. I’m very knew to the Tales series, like super new, but now I won’t have to waste my time and money on Legendia. Just ordered Tales of the Abyss though. I hear it’s a fan favorite, so I thought why not. I’ve played Symphonia(gotta start over), Takes of Vesperia(in clean up mode [Last Dungeon/Finish Side Quests]), Tales of Berseria(own but haven’t started), Tales of Zestiria(Own but stopped playing to play Vesperia lol).
I haven’t played Legendia but I have played FFX-2, as well as Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World, and I’d have to say Dawn of the New World is probably more of the FFX-2 of the Tales series.
Not even close. It’s more like the Final Fantasy 9 of the series. A return to the classics that was released a little too late. Amazing game that just has a couple of outdated retro flaws.
I was always really curious about this game, it was one of the few NA released tales games I hadn’t at least tried. I was pleasantly surprised by it, I was expecting it to the subpar as it’s often said to be one of the worst tales games. I haven’t finished the character stories yet but I really enjoyed the main quest.
the explosion sections and the forest of no return are a reference to Tales of Phantasia(the arrows on Moria gallery and the Elf forest which are A PAIN) which reminds me pretty quickly and is great .... for a fan perspective
I reeeeeally can't wait for Tales of Graces my favorite game from the franchise. The Grune things reminds me a LOT of Pascal which is my favorite character EVER!
yeah, this was certainly a weird title, but hey the soundtrack kicks ass! Go Shiina is a fantastic composer and, as i'm sure you'll mention this when you get to it, i'm really glad they brought him back to work with Sakuraba on the music for Zestiria. (before that his other work with the series were spinoffs we never got.) He also does music for anime, including the Zestiria anime, Dimension W, and Kyosougiga. Another fun fact, starting with this game, Wendee Lee became the permanent voice director for the series (with the exception of Hearts R which was Japanese audio only and possibly Phantasia which i couldnt find a voice director for), taking over for Greg Weber from Eternia and Brigitte Burdine from Symphonia. Wendee also did voice direction for Drakengard 3, the Nier games, Xenoblade Chronicles X, the sixth Phoenix Wright game, and Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. Yeah, expect a lot of my comments to be filled with VA fun facts. Its kinda my thing. Anyway, i really like these videos! Can't wait to see more!
I remember beating Abyss and being in love with the franchise, then i checked which games where available for the PS2 in english and discovered that besides Abyss the only other Tales was Legendia. I bough it, i play it... AND I HATED IT. Besides the shitty plot, boring characters and the fact that all the game takes place on a fucking island, the worst part of the game was Shirley, i hated her so much, i mean... SPOILERS Not only she is the typical "unreleated sister therefore is ok" cliche bullshit but when Senel said NO to her she basically was willing to kill the whole world, and then everyone just forgets about that. The last straw was when Chloe told her that she has feelings for Senel and she is like "bitch, you dont have a chance". Shirley is seriously the characters that i hate the most in any game. I was really sad because we didnt get any other Tales on a playstation console in english until Graces F (which i love)
LIONREV7 my friend didn't like Tales of Graces f all because of what happened between our main female lead and our main character which resulted in me laughing my ass off because it was hilarious and cuz I was planning on saying that.
0_o oh, so it's one of those situations. Great... So she's willing to burn down the entire world, but from your explanation she doesn't sound like the final boss. I must ask then: Is it another Child God?
I don't have the time ton apply an english patch to the PS1 version of Tales of Phantasia so the GBA version is the first game in the series I've played.
I didn't bother experimenting with combining eres. They're too situational, so I just picked one and used it when I could. Think I only swapped it out for a better skill once, late game
in my opnition, is this a decent game if you factor in this was one of te first games in the series you can play in the west if you go in blind like I did or pretend this is either separated from the main series or this is their first foray into making a RPG for the PS2, you will have a good time, sure, I do have my gripes with it as well, but very few games on the PS2 were that great, especially the early console life ones you may need to put some rose-tinted glasses to enjoy it, but you should help Legendia up to their temporaries
I know that it'd be a while down the road, but any plans to cover the two mobile games that have been localized? I've only played a small bit of Tales of the Rays, but it seems to be an earnest effort in putting a near-console quality title on your phone. I like this series a lot and I love seeing anyone give one of if not my very favorite JRPG series some attention. I've had Legendia for a while now and still haven't finished it, but I did have a good time with the twenty hours that I played of it. Maybe I just didn't have the fatigue set in yet, haha. Hopefully I'll catch that Phantasia review in 2018. ;)
I played the part 1 of Legendia in japanese because one better music and voice actors-ors, it was kinda hard with equips, but I manage to play with some guides and notepads, it was so fun and the grinding WAS fun because of this pushing limits of myself, I was thrilled! Even though I couldn't understand almost anything, I could figure it out only by expression and my minimal/almost inexistencial knowledge of JP. Now, about Abyss... I don't like Abyss - partially... just because the fonnon-circles! There isnt anything that hate more than those circles even side-quest hells are better. Anyway, you should make a joke about ALL the ports of Tales of Phantasia when you review it... there is a lot(maybe even more than those) there are the snes, psx, gba and two psp versions.
Yeah legendia let's put it this way let's only remember the awesome music and then just move on. Yay Abyss my favorite game in the franchise and wait Tales of Phantasia GBA was released at that time before Abyss well shit. do we have to talk about that crappy port? Well this is a retrospective of the series and you do have to go through everything about the franchise released in the states and that includes Phantasia GBA. Sigh, well ToP GBA once we deal with you we can go into the best part, then the one game my two friends like and then the ps3 and 4 era. Nice job dude and can't wait to see you go into hell.
It is the version of Tales of Phantasia that I'm playing right now & is the first Tales game I've played. I don't have the time to apply an english patch to a ROM file.
tim5fl I found a pre patch the version of the PlayStation 1 version of Tales of Phantasia. I am at the final dungeon right now and what I can say about my adventure it is really fun the only downside is you can't have Arche use Too Many high-level spells or otherwise the game will crash. Besides that the game runs really smooth.
Okay. But I like to play a game translated though so I know what's going on. So I hope you can understand me sticking with the GBA version. I do prefer the GBA versions of Donkey Kong Country 1,2,& 3 after all.
Tales of Legendia, what a game. This was my very first entry to the Tales series.

Especially doing Moses character story
Remake coming at tgs
@@tangiblemammal5273 don't tease me like that 🥲🥲
Probably the game that made me the most teary eyed of all time lol. Nier Gestalt and Tales of Legendia were the most emotional games for me.
Honestly, Legendia is my second favorite Tales of game. Part of it is nostalgia, but part is that it took risks. It was flawed sure, but I enjoyed the characters, the plot was engaging, battles were fast paced. All the important elements, for me, were there :)
The second part of the game is soooo great. The character quest.
Beautiful soundtrack, lovable characters and very emotional plot moments made this my favorite Tales game.
My brother and I loved this game when we played it. That would be interesting considering there's a reason why it isn't on PSN besides Bandai Namco being lazy.
@@GatorRay Japan hates it, basically.
yeah the typing might be why we haven't seen Tales of Rebirth outside Japan. imagine how much of a pain that would be to localize.
I think Legendia's problems can be summed up to "Identity issues", it didn't fully understand what it could be, and thus hand a smaller scope. Because of that, maybe it is why they focused so much on the writing as best as they could?

Erick Landon punching the air right now

from what I heard, it's way more of a black sheep in Japan. it's also the only pre-Xillia Mothership title that hasn't seen a rerelease.

his style doesn't fit a fantasy-themed RPG. It does fit a post-apocalyptic dystopian hunting game, though.
