Welcome to our Finale and bonus video for our "week of giving thanks to the 5200!" It started on Thanksgiving with our Five 5200 Games to Try and then continued on Sunday with our review of Gremlins for the 5200! Links can be found in the description! I hope you all enjoy the review and check out the others! And don't forget, we put out 2 videos every week about Atari consoles, games, discussions and news! Thanks for checking out the video and I hope you all have a good rest of the week!
4/5 sounds like a good and positive review to me! Thanks for this review, I think this is one of the few YT vids about Adventure II where I could tell the player actually understood the gameplay and knew what he was doing, and showing off many of the different scenarios. I see that you figured out the secret '1980' code to get those alternate icons like the walking blue Knight. True, using these makes the game tougher because of their size, because the levels were really designed more for the square. The alternate icons in the XE version each have their own special abilities (to compensate) - the Knights are especially strong and can endure many bites (or even damage a biting dragon - 1/16th of chance each bite!); the Crab can slowly crawl over the background objects, etc. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on the XE version in the future.
I didn't know that there's Adventure II for the 2600, so thanks for that tidbit. I think you're totally justified in withholding the fifth and final rebuilt controller from the rating. The character sprite getting stuck is one of my pet peeves when playing games. While I haven't played it yet, Adventure II was one of the earliest additions to my 5200 library when I started collecting. I came by a copy of the limited edition -- number 152 out of 250 according to the sticker. I think it comes with some trinkets to set it apart. It's too bad that the SuperSystem receives very little support in the way of original homebrew titles compared to the other Atari consoles.
Yeah the 2600 version was developed by Curt Vendel's company for the Atari Flashback 2 I believe. I'm sure it's received an unofficial cartridge release somewhere at some point. Thanks for the input, I felt it was justified but it was still a very fun game. Video61 seems to put out a ton of original stuff but you're right, most seem to be Atari 8 bit ports.
As a lover of the 2600 version of Adventure, I think this game looks great. I used to play the 2600 version for hours. After beating it endless times I would play around and purposely delay completing the game just to add some fun by roaming around. I would definitely l love to play the 5200 version. It seems to have the same feel with better graphics.
Adventure II very much feels like the original and the new elements feel fine. I really like how they kept the dragons as your primary threat and the other enemies harm you in other ways!
I would like to find a cheat guide. I just got this game, and I find it extremely difficult. The dragons are near impossible. I have not been able to make any progress whatsover.
You know it would make sense to me in more ways than one. Outside of maybe square trio attempting to stop it for some reason I think it could and should.
I really don't like this game. It is not the worst 5200 homebrew but it is definitely not the best. Four player Castle Blast using converted paddle controllers is king! For original titles, my favorite is still the first: Koffi Yellow Kopter.
@Cafeman_2D hmm, I wonder who that could be? 😂 My wife and I still love playing Koffi and after all these years, she has gotten quite skilled at the game. You made a real winner there!

Thanks so much for this informative review👍
The long awaited sequel of the Adventure.
I have a good idea for Adventure III, it will be in Jack Tramiel's house and you will go in search of the Lost Swordquest contest prizes

I wonder if this will ever come out on the Atari vcs? I say this because i just realized this game is on thr back of the box

Adventure 2 is on the Atari VCS in the vault volume 2. It's the 2600 version.
It would have been nice if it had scrolling instead of redrawing the entire screen when you move of the screen.

I'll have to give those a try!
Koffi and Adventure II are from the same guy, you know? :)
