Cheap and cheerful. I've fixed and sold on three of those. They're a clone of the original Yamaha design and most parts are interchangeable. Tough as boots. Great for power tools.
You know what Shawn, I learned many many years ago, washing electrical items with solvent then water does them no harm at all. As long as you let them dry properly.
I've had electronic components that were fully submerged in a flood that I let dry outside for a few weeks, then opened up and cleaned out, and they were fine. I'm not saying everything would survive like that, and it's certainly not ideal, but it's not impossible or the end of the world in some case.
Mine will run for about 5-10 minutes then shut off any idea what would cause that? Ive went through the carb its good and clean no problem whatsoever starting it fires right up its almost like it overheats and shuts down any info would be appreciated
Hey Shawn. I just bought a Amico Ag1500 generator which is pretty much identical to your tailgator. I got it running it did produce power for a short time but it's no longer producing power. Can you give any advice on what and how to check it out? I do have a digital multimeter.
@@shawnmrfixitlee6478 re: ' circuits '' > what Shawn means, is the stator and rotor coils. Maybe brushes, or brushless with magnets on the rotor, as well as diodes, usually one for each rotor coil. i have 2 of these, Chicago brand. One runs, no power; other one, wants to go, but gotta do the carb. Good luck, i'll need it too..
Do you know how to check the coil to see if it works and how can I order parts for it. Mine was working good then just shut off like the kill switch was turned off. I had thought it ran out of gas but had not. I checked the plug for fire and have none. I replaced the plug bit still no fire. Any suggestions?
there is an ignition coil and a pickup coil , My pickup coil went out and I found one on Ebay .. Not sure where else you could search .. Hope you find one .. Thanks !!
I just recieved a capacitor I had ordered for my tailgator. It was equipped with a 11.5 uF cap, but I ordered a 12uF generator cap replacement. I hope it turns out to be useful and fun. How has your faired since 5 months ago?
Hey man I got a bad issue with mine it fires up but I can't get it to hit full rev. Has apx 200 hours on it. So capacitor or something? Sincerely a DIY autoshop mechanic that doesn't like small engines.
@@shawnmrfixitlee6478 so it starts and stays idle no matter the choke positions cleaned the plug cleaned the carb, air filters nasty as **** but a fox for later. I'm at a total loss as to why it won't put out energyy. Plugged a simple phone charger in. Nothing.

Looks like a handy little unit for smaller power tools. Free is good, and so is cheap after just needing a few parts!

That's a cool little generator. Nice find and good fix.
Thanks !!

for sure , Thanks John !!
As many generators as you drag in you will soon be called MrGenerator.
I enjoy fixing them , And they turn a good $ as well . Thanks Harold !!
yup...better than the 'term' inator....or even Germinator.....how about generATOR gator

When it does that shut down , Check the spark & compression . It could have a bad coil or bad rings .. Easy fix either way ! Thanks for watch'en
Remove the spark arrestor
Gas cap vent plugged.

I would check the breaker and the capacitor . Go through the generator and test the circuits out for shorts . Thanks for watching !
