@@jeffro9252 I like Star Wars...and by "Star Wars," I mean the Original Trilogy. All of the other crap sucks. So, do I like anime? Well, I like Princess Mononoke, a few of Hayao Miyazaki's other films, Akira, Ghost in the Shell, and that's about it.
I've watched about a dozen "Top Ten Physical Media Releases of 2024" on TH-cam and here's something that I've noticed: Every list is DIFFERENT. There are a few titles that seem to make every list (or every other list)...but each list is different -- and wildly different in some cases. Now, what does this mean for us? Simply put: We live in a Golden Era of Physical Media. There has never been a better time to buy movies on superior formats -- Blu-ray and/or 4K. Last year was another incredible year -- as was 2022 and 2023. Here is MY list for Best Physical Media Releases from 2024: 1. Civil War 2. Bringing Out the Dead 3. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas 4. Friday Night Lights 5. Team America: World Police 6. The Silence of the Lambs (from Arrow) 7. Rules of Engagement / The Hunted 8. Goodbye Uncle Tom 9. Invasion U.S.A. 10. All Ladies Do It / Cheeky! / Frivolous Lola / Caligula: The Ultimate Cut (from Umbrella)
Second run is owned by Arrow, I believe, and they release obscure Russian, French, Spanish, etc. films of all genres normally from the 40’s to the 70’s. almost all of them are foreign language titles, but many of them are excellent because they were banned once for being too political, or to risqué. I think one of the titles is the earliest Baron Munchausen film is on the label. They are currently a UK release, but might be available in the US. There are some wild films on that label and some of the best, earliest looks at creative low budget filmmaking.
I bought a bunch of Powerhouse/Indicator blu-ray this month. No synopsis on the back, which is weird. Still worth it though, since they were all Humphrey Bogart’s Columbia films that are out of print in the US.
The Cameron 4ks being on any best of list is atrocious, Abyss included. 4k AI upscales of mediocre movies don't hold a candle to some of the bangers that came out last year from the boutique companies.
The great thing about Hayao Miyazaki's work is that you don't really have to be "into anime" to enjoy it. It's truly incredible stuff.
I was about to write something similar. Thank you for commenting. I did not like anime until I discovered his films. Princess Mononoke is my favorite.
You do though.

Slightly surprised super mario was not in that top 10 or Never Ending Story from imprint, maybe too expensive for some.

I have the keep on DVD, not seen any of the others.

Mute witness as a movie was great! You trippin on that one. The 4k transfer was good, not spectacular or anything, but good.

Last Embrace is a 4k and it’s a terrific movie.
The picture quality on Invasion of the Body Snatchers was not very good at all.
The Cameron 4ks being on any best of list is atrocious, Abyss included. 4k AI upscales of mediocre movies don't hold a candle to some of the bangers that came out last year from the boutique companies.
✌️ hey! 😊
Mute Witeness was a great release!
I thought so too. Great 90’s indie flick.
😴
nice
dvdbeaver I have followed for 25 years or something.
Mute witness boring ?! You should stop lying to yourself son.You are not a cinephile !
I'm a cinephile. It had a good setup and then got kinda goofy and didn't stick the landing at all. 2.5/5
@@djdepressionthe movie itself was great. If you want to say the transfer could have been better then sure. The movie is money though.
