    Caught my attention with wrought iron then I clicked it and saw the best San mai video ever!

    Absolutely gorgeous work! I never thought about grinding the scale in the anvil with a hammer! How did I never think of that? Nice to see a bundle beingh made like this. It's something that one realises when making knifes as a business. It's strangely satisfying to make series of something.

      Indeed it is. Batchwork is very satisfying! Thank you very much!

    Masking tape around the bolsters and the shoulder of the knife to protect the finish from the glue!? THAT'S GENIUS. I wish I'd thought of that myself. Gonna do that the next time I make something.

      Yeah I don't like to wipe away the epoxy with the forge scale in it. Leaves tiny scratches if you do it too much.

    Just bought myself some wrought iron and was going to make it the "traditional" three layer san mai. Thinking of trying it your way now.. :)

    • @MakeNCreate
      @MakeNCreate  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @neilwalker3204 I personally find this technique easier. There is less chance of getting bad stuff in your welds, especially if you're using coal. Knives are very easy to correct too after heat treatment should the warp, as there is more wrought iron than steel.

      @@MakeNCreate not using coal. I got myself a wagon wheel the other day, 10mm or so thick and about 90mm wide. I was thinking I could heat it up, straighten it, clean it then heat it back up again folding it in half and then insert a cutting edge your way. Looking forward to it, bit of a newbie.. :)

    amazing man ! as a knifemaker i truly appreciate your work and your dedication to film it ! just have a question, how do you make the hole in the handles to fit the blade ? Just two holes and you join them with a rasp ?

      Hehe, she doesn't help out that much... more of a spectator really ;). I find it helps hammering the edge flat first. Basically forging a rough bevel.
