    Mailspring accounts are now optional (When you run it for the first time there's a 'skip' option) which is great for the paranoid (which most Linux users probably are). Anyway thanks! I didn't know about this application or had forgotton about it. I thought I'd never find a mail app as good as Apple Mail but here it is! (Yes, Apple haters, I know Apple are the bad guys and I agree, especially with all the right-to-repair stuff going on, but you gotta admit, Finder and Mail are among the best software ever written)

      You only need an account to use the snooze and delayed sending of mail stuff really. If you skip creating an account it operates like any other client. I've just started using it and it's fantastic, there are all the presets to make it look like outlook or apple mail, and also preset keybindings: gmail, apple, outlook so if you use any of those clients you can start using mailspring without learning new keybindings

    There's a business model behind it so you have to pay for a "pro" version and and who knows whether they cut down the free version after a few months. They might even track the usage of Mailspring. And a logon whenever you use it is a no go.

    • @liesdamnlies3372

    MailSpring is a lot zippier than Thunderbird. I really wanted to like it. It lacks a Calendar function, which I can deal with, but it groups emails into GMail-style threads (which I strongly dislike) and there is no option to disable that.

  • @nehikmetse

    For the people wondering why you need an account. They need to collect all of your behavior like which link you clicked which contacts you contact, which mails you open to make those cool dashboard and data. except for all those tracking it looks quite nice though.

  • @wcg66
    @wcg66 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My only complaint with Mailspring is the cpu usage. I’ve posted the issue to their community page but there doesn’t seems to be a cause or known solution yet. In my case, one thread in the app is running 100%. It consistently sits at 12% usage regardless of activity. Otherwise, I’m really impressed.

    Is it possible to configure 2 or more unified mailboxes for incoming mail?
    Each one independent of the other? for example "Work" or "Personal", so that by clicking on "Work" I can see all the emails that have arrived from my various work accounts, and vice versa from Personal.
    This is a basic feature that the current Mail App for Windows offers that Microsoft has decided to discontinue, but strangely almost no mail client has.

  • @kasimirdenhertog3516
    @kasimirdenhertog3516 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    It looks and works nice, but there is still the Nylas Cloud lurking in the background. The forebears of Mailspring (Nylas/N1) made you upload your entire email boxes, without it being quite clear what would happen to it. Now there is the link tracking that hooks into the same Cloud. I don’t really trust these practices, to be honest. Other mail clients might look dainty or have flaws, but at least they don’t have a business model behind it that involves harvesting your data.

    been using WaveBox and can't seem to find better (still searching) -- but really it has some features that i do not want and needs immediate customizing to be a more basic UI.
    what i really want is more-or-less a sandboxed chromium with multi-gmail support. it should display accounts in a left vertical bar, and just provide gmail's default web-UI. links should open in OS's default browser. this is truely all i want, yet this does not seem to exist.
    gmail-desktop was close, but no inline-webpage-search feature and accounts spread on top-tabs :(
    mailspring refuse to authenticate my accounts, and by the looks of it, it's not the gmail default web-ui that i prefer.

    The problem is that Mailspring is proprietary where Thunderbird is not it is a chose like which is better Firefox or Chrome? My choice would be Thunderbird and Firefox for more privacy and less snooping. Being part of the GPL has very little to do with it, the same thing that happened with Ubuntu who also is part of the GPL. This was more like a push on your part for Mailspring if not then a fair comparison between the top 3 would have been fair and perhaps at the end you could have said Mailspring is my favorite what do you think?

If someone wants to use these features anyway, that person can of course do so. But you should be aware, that not only you get to know which links are being accessed, but also the operator of the tracking service. In this case whoever is behind the foundry376.com domain.

    No exchange support which means I cannot use it for work...
    Evolution-ews and Bluemail are the only clients I can find (Bluemail is free but not opensource.)

    Great video, thanks. Just mind that some youtubers (you mentioned one in your video) may promote alternatives to Thunderbird because they do not like Mozilla...

      Well, it's kind of hard to deny that Mozilla is actively trying to make people dislike them at this point (though I still use both Firefox and Thunderbird)

      Agreed. I currently use Firefox and LibreWolf interchangeably.

    I wish we had the choice to hide the left (accounts) sidebar. Most times I have no use for it and it just takes up real estate.

    No autodiscover (2022 !!!) and absolutely pathetically outdated (90's style) connecting IMAP accounts (by default requiring separate user/pass/server credentials for SMTP and IMAP) tells me, that "flashy" is new "solid"
    Flashy gmail reader on wheels.
    Still good reader, if you use it for quick checking whats going on and want email notifications (Thunderbird still not having tray icon :D)
    Nice addon to otherwise uber-workhorse setup of Mutt & Co by Luke Smith.
    Methinks they should use Gmail as an inspiration, not Thunderbird. I.e. add "Create filter from message" under context menu or something.
    If you ask me, this doesnt bring anything really useful or new to the table
