Every generation has their own rebellion. Things we do to stand out and prove we aren't our parents. It's human nature. My father had his ear pierced. My uncle on my mom's side came home with a fake ear ring, his mom snatched it off. It was coming out, with or without the ear.
But then you mature through another ten years, you look back on pics from your rebellious era, and you cringe at it. That's when you start seeing life from the other side, and you realize your parents had a rebellious faze too, and they were speaking from experience. It's not about NOT being individualistic, it's about being yourself while maintaining self respect for yourself, and your family image. It's about respect.

He was a wise man even after he retired for 20+ years that man left the house wearing slacks penny loafers shined up nice shirts and sweatersall dressed up and nowhere really to be but he also had a lot of dignity and a lot of respect for himself and his family and did not want to misrepresent his family name. @@paulhunter9613 I don't think so. I think it's an immaturity that stems from being a matriarchy for at least 60 years. You can also make the argument that Black America has been a matriarchy since Africans were brought over. The feminine chaotic is essentially anti rules, and black people have been raised by women for almost three generations. You have an entire subsection of people who cannot be told anything and rejects Authority in every way. While at the same time, wanting things without working for it. Black people want agency over their lives, but they want no responsibility for the decisions that they make. If that isn't the short definition of what it means to be a woman, I don't know what is.

Aries Spears is right about both things. I had a lot of black friends back in the 80's and they always presented themselves well. They would dress to impress and not try to look ghetto. I don't know how everything went wrong. As a Hispanic I see some of my people doing the same thing and when I ask why, they say it's a trend. SMH.

Would have been better if he tackled some of the actually IMPORTANT things like black racism, hate, vi ol en ce, murderers, car jackers, drop outs, single parents, etc. But, instead we decide to talk about head coverings and pants as he's sitting there with his hat on sideways and using racial slurs. Too funny.

@@baconoverlord7982the look he’s describing contributes to everything you just said. Racism, murders, bonnets, du-rags in public… things that make us look like we don’t care about ourselves. Perception is everything. If we look like we don’t care, why would they care about us?
