Wasteful expenditure is the core issue that is putting NSFAS in a dire position. It is time that we are presented with the financial statements of that institution for us to scruitinize them.
This is a move in the right direction . Set the bar high , make students proud of their achievements . The alternative is like matric - lower the bar and pop out hundreds and thousands each year who are unemployable , then send them to varsity to do a BA which prepares them for nothing . We must aim to be the most competent country in the world , we have youngsters with great attitude , high enthusiasm and must encourage them to acquire maximum ability - clearly the mediocre will push back and make a lot of noise and protest about the 75% , but that is to be expected and must be ignored.
Let's be fair to the students & bursars . Only 25 % of the students should be @ UNI - the other 75 % should be following a trade . We have skills shortages . Why set these youngsters up for failure at a crucial stage in their lives ? They can't hack it @ UNI - so that creates a downward spiral .. Sat with debt which they can't repay ( unemployment is a HUGE black whole ) The 30% pass rate doesn't add any value at tertiary level - so get 75 % and pass 75 % of your subjects ... that's how you create much needed TOPIC EXPERTS ... Why set these individuals up for failure and debt ?? That doesn't bring the results we need in the country and/ or the economy....
Nsfas must first stop stealing from students and deliver allowances on time and not make their lives miserable unnecessary. Then we can start talking about the percentage of modules in which they could pass.
But isn't NASFAS a loan?? So maintaining a loan requires conditions? Then jus make it a bursary. Thank god I am done. Some students face harsh decisions having to choose between food and transport
xoli mngambi...amasimba uyawabuza yong! the devils advocate questioning as if you never lived through apartheid. Students are faced with black-led apartheid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wish S.A student should stop crying about this, and many young South African student get surprised when international companies prefer to higher foreigners in high positions, higher grade passes gives you more chances to be considered for high positions in international companies Yes NFSAS has its crazy and slow administration AND CORRUPTION but students should look around the international community and their pass % requirements and ask themselves why S.A students are looked down upon

don"t limit other people , because clearly education works for them
Wena uphume unangaphi e Varsity or I Masters zakho uzifumene unangaphi???🤔
impossible
Why not 100%, if you cant do the bare minimum of passing all your modules, you should not receive funding.
