    Hey! Thanks for the review, we just started looking at this mower as we are already in the makita LXT ecosystem.
    Have you seen the 2021 model yet, or have any thoughts? It’s xml09pt1, vs 8.
    I only see an aluminum deck, vs steel, but it’s $300 more! Thanks, appreciate the in depth review.

    Agree on the handle, takes space in garage. Bought a new gas Toro with the Smart Store just for that reason. Like the two handle system for the drive and blade on that mower. Just not ready to go fully to the electric wave of yard tools.

    The best deal I have seen for this Makita lawn mower kit with the charger and four - 5ah 18v batteries is $849 or $250 more than the Ego 56v select cut lawn mower kit with 7.5ah battery. I would buy this Makita lawn mower if this kit was priced at $600.

    I can’t remember the brand but it came out several years ago. It was a battery mower that would go out and mow the yard itself. Totally automatic even came back to a charging station and parked to charge when the battery was low. I don’t know if it’s still a thing but id like to see another one come out from one of these big name companies

      There's a bunch of those on the market. Off the top of my head I know of, Robomow, Workx, even Makita has one.

      They all require boundary wires. A couple of companies are trying to bring wire free ones to market.

    • @blairtubechannel
      @blairtubechannel 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's targeted towards commercial use. Makita did research and found that no one folded the handle, they loaded in the trailer and went to the next job. This way you get a more solid handle as well.

      The constitution of the mower is outstanding the power you get from two 18volt batteries is amazing. Be good if makita came out with 9ah or 12ah batteries. Theses ones down here have 4 swig back blades on a disk same as the Honda mowers down here.

    Seems like that side discharge is the weak point. Hit anything with it and those plastic hooks will snap. Also, when using the side discharge there is a clump left because the discharge doesn't allow the clippings to be duscharged clear if the mower.

    Interestingly Einhell/Ozito sell an *identical* - down to the catcher - mower. The Makita sells their mower at a substantial price premium but the real killer is the Makita 18v batteries are priced more than double the equivalent Einhell/Ozito battery.

    Is there any maintenance that should be done on a regular basis. How about long term storage. I bought the non self-propelled model for my mom's quarter acre lot. Will use it twice a month for four months. Then stored until the next cutting season. Like that I do not have to keep gas in her storage. And don't forget have to transport my mower just to cut her grass. Just have to stop by fire it up and 40 minutes later done. Blow off the driveway and sidewalk with the battery blower. One glass of ice tea and I'm on my way home.

      From SlickDeals, a number of Home Depot’s around the country have this combo for $350. The catches are: 1) the store needs to have them in stock, and 2) you probably need to talk with the manager. There are photos on SlickDeals of boxes with the $350 price. My local HD’s had no stock items, but I did get my 10% veteran’s discount. $630 is still a good deal, if not a GREAT deal.

    Is the blade like a gas mower or thin like the other battery mowers? (Other than toro)

    • @jamesfair9751
      @jamesfair9751 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would take a guess and say since it’s a more standard size of 21 inch it would be very possible to have a normal blade. Also it’s 36 volt so it has more power to get the mass of the heavier blades going. Again I don’t know just a guess.

    5 things that can make this better.
    Foldable handle
    not having to switch between the set of batteries
    being able to charge the batteries while in the mower
    Better designed throttle switch
    better designed self propelled switch (something similar to Ego's)

    “Cut an hour-probably over an hour”. Come on. These makita mower reviews are a laugh. I have this mower and an hour is a fantasy on the four batteries. Also the self propel may “cook” on the sidewalk-it does. But when the battery is getting low the self propel is very lethargic. Accelerates very slowly and top speed drops down to 2 mph while cutting (yep, I measured it). This does 3 mph on fresh batteries but loaded, non-fresh 2/3 the speed while actively cutting.
