Good grief. It's over 40 years since I did the Wye and Usk (Christmas) school trip. Better boats now. Water looks higher. Looks warmer in the video (no snow and ice). But looks like y'all had fun !

Hi, I'm sorry that you feel this way. Perhaps check out webcam.wyeuskfoundation.org/navigation/ataglance.php which provides details on when Kayakers are authorised to paddle the Usk (and the Wye for that matter). It may also reassure you that every year, we pay an annual fee for a licence to paddle on British waterways.

@@travelswithpaddles I have been informed that there is no right of way on the Usk. When you consider that game anglers on some beats, have to pay 30 or even 40 pounds for a days fishing, only to be spoiled by rude kayakers breaking rules and scaring the fish, then you should understand why we get so annoyed. If it was free to us both, then it wouldn't be so bad.

@@travelswithpaddles PS please understand that game anglers pay a lot for fishing and have to abide by rules and may have driven a long way for a day. Just be respectful and move to other part of river and quick wave and most anglers are fine. It's the ones that are loud, rude and will paddle straight by them with no regard for scaring the fish that pisses anglers off.

@@carlhughes9584 Access to water is certainly a real issue at the moment, as it is often quite unclear what can and can't be paddled and there is often conflicting information from different sources! I believe there is a debate planned for parliament to discuss this very subject at some point in the future (as always these things seem to take a lot of time). Then hopefully, the situation will be much clearer.

@@carlhughes9584 I can only apologise for the behaviour of other paddlers you have had a bad experience with. All I can say is that whenever our group paddles, we always try to be respectful of other river users and of the environment. Just the other day, we were paddling along a canal (an undisputed navigation) and there was a group of 10 or so anglers pole fishing right across the canal. We stopped short of them and asked for guidance on how best to pass without disturbing them. The decision was to paddle as close to their bank as possible and they lifted their poles one by one as we passed. They seemed to be very appreciative of us not storming straight through their fishing area. Hopefully this demonstrates that not all kayakers are rude?
