    I got my cheap ass pressure washer at Christmas several years ago. Used it once in the spring. Wouldn't work a second time and could not return it. It sat in the basement for 4 years. Saw your video and it was the same one. Thank you very much. It's working!!! It's like getting my present back.

      Did not work. Didn't seem to be the issue. Everything moved freely. Not sure. Put it all back together and nothing. I tried it white sorry as well. Nothing..I thought maybe it's triggered byv the water pressure..so I assembled it all after checking the mechanism. Nothing. I thing my power cord end is fried..the reset switch doesn't seen to work

    • @ClayCarlino
      @ClayCarlino  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@granttaskerud5367 grrr! That's frustrating! I think there's a gfi built into the plug. If that went bad it will suck. You could plug it in then test the wires connecting to that limit switch with a multimeter to see if they are even getting current. If the GFI is bad you could cut it off and wire in a new gfi plug. I've seen them on amazon.com for about 16 bucks. Of course if you're thinking of going that route, I'd want to bypass the gfi with a standard plug first just to test to make sure it will actually work before spending the money. Just be careful. Without the gfi circuit installed, you won't be protected if something gets wet and causes a short. You could damage the machine, start a fire, blow a breaker or electrocute yourself if you're not careful, so please take every precaution to keep yourself and others safe. (I feel like that should be followed by GI Joe characters saying "now we know"- "...and knowing is half the battle!") Good luck!

    Thank you. I picked up a Campbell Hausfeld PW190100 just down the street that a neighbor was throwing out this morning. It worked, but the motor kept turning off after a few seconds. Your recommendation to disassemble the switch helped. Although it wasn't dirty or gunked up in any way, perhaps it was just stored so long that it wasn't moving freely. Either way, it works great now, and I put it to good use this afternoon washing our cars for a couple of hours. My soap dispenser works, too, but you have to use the other low-pressure nozzle. A lot of people just don't know about that feature in the Amazon comments. The regular adjustable nozzle will not dispense soap, just as with most pressure washers of any kind.

      @Guillotines_For_Globalists 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, only the low flow nozzles will be able to create the vacuum or suction needed for a chemical dispenser. Can't explain why. I'm surprised that the other attachment nozzle was included. The folks who threw it out even left the owner's manual tucked in to the handle. Funny!

      Yep. I watched a YT video on how to fix a shop vac. After I already bought a new one. Turns out there's a tiny length of solder that acts as a thermal fuse. I cut a piece of solder, stuck it in there. Works like new. I was hoping there'd be a quick hack fix for my Portland pressure washer. Looks like this is it.

    • @traumajock
      @traumajock ปีที่แล้ว

      It was the limit switch, but I didn't have to dismantle anything! I just unscrewed the nozzle from the wand. That released some pent up juices in the wand, and it powers up like gangbusters. However gangbuster power up. Whatever gangbuster are.

      @@ClayCarlino people assume everything is computerized and beyond their capabilities to fix. I used to be in a photography business, and we had a repair side. I mostly fixed those cheap plastic point and shoot film cameras. This was right before the first digital cameras. People would return them to the stores, stores would send them, to me. When you fix stuff with myriad little gears and flex circuits, most everything else is easy. Cars, HVACs, guns. you name it. Its saved me ton of money. Medics do semi-ok now, back when I started my family (35 years ago) we didn't make peanuts. I bought used appliances for a song and used them for ten years or more. Those are really easy to fix.

    Pretty positive this is what happened to mine. But now the hard part is opening the damn thing up. It’s an Ivation brand, has screws but the front cover is still stuck completely. I might have to break the cover off

    • @ClayCarlino
      @ClayCarlino  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      See if you can work a flat head screwdriver in between the cover and the rest and gently pry just a bit working your way around the edge. You may encounter a place where it is more resistant to separating. When you do, look around that area for hidden screws. Possibly under a sticker or some other little part that snaps on to cover the screw hole. 9 times out of 10, I've ended up either getting the cover to pop off safely or I've found an unknown screw. Good luck! Thanks for commenting!

    I've got a Sun Joe SPX1000 and suspect this is the problem with mine as well, but that particular nut on mine is some plastic/nylon one and really narrow with extremely little clearance around it, which is making the removal damn near impossible

    • @ClayCarlino
      @ClayCarlino  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well that's a pain! Nylon nuts are great for ensuring that they don't loosen on their own, but they suck when you have to take them off- especially when there's not a lot of room to work! I'm afraid I don't even know and good tricks for a situation like that. The only solution is patience and persistence. You can experiment with different tools to see what works best, maybe a good pair of needle-nose pliers vs. An appropriately sized open end wrench, but in the end, it's just going to come down to working the nut off a quarter turn at a time.
      Good luck though! I hope you get your pressure washer working! Thanks for watching and thanks for commenting!

      Try simply spraying into the high pressure line with a penetrating lube. I used PB Blaster. I just sprayed it into the pipe and let it soak a few minutes. Plugged it in and turned it on for a second and now every time I'm done using it I give it a few sprays. It will spray the oil out when you use it so just point it away from the car or siding or whatever for a bit. My SPX3000 wouldn't even start. I took it apart and ran into the same problem at the limiting switch.

    Hi clay. Ive a cheap Stanley washer that's broken. It has power to it. But ZERO pressure and sounds like a vacuum cleaner. Any ideas.....?

    • @ClayCarlino
      @ClayCarlino  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Soooo... the motor is running, but its not creating pressure. I'm not familiar with the stanley. Is it possible that there's a pressure valve or switch or something that's keeping the motor from engaging the pump? Like activating a clutch or something? Also, make 100% sure that you're operating it correctly. I know that seems obvious, but I have done it where something won't work. I start taking it apart and halfway through the process I discover something I was supposed to do but didn't (press a button, open a valve, whatever) and then I feel really stupid when I have to put everything back together, do the proper thing and discover that it was user error!
      Once you're sure it's not user error or something simple, what I would do is, unplug everything and start carefully taking it apart. Try to figure out how it's supposed to work. Look for pieces that appear to be stuck or broken. Clean piece as you go, and if it's a moving part, lubricate. If you need to, take pictures as you go so you know how it goes back together. Sometimes you get lucky and find an obvious problem like I did with mine. But even if you don't find a "smoking gun", put it back together again, and try it out. Sometimes just getting everything clean and lubricated helps. I hope that helps. Good luck and thanks for commenting! Feel free to let me know how it goes.

    Great video Craig, thank you. Tried this and it did turn on, the second I pulled trigger it shut off. When I took handle off to go back to drawing board, it almost flew out of my hand from pressure build up. No water in the handle hose. Could it be that switch?

    • @ClayCarlino
      @ClayCarlino  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's really weird! I think the pump should only be running while the trigger is pulled. I think that when you attach a hose and have the water turned on, but you haven't pulled the trigger, the water pressure triggers that limit switch and keeps the pump from running. (This way it's not building up pressure at a time when it cannot discharge.)
      It sort of sounds like yours is running up until you pull the trigger, then it stops. That's the exact opposite of what it's supposed to do. (That's assuming that I'm understanding what you're describing.)
      The limit switch inside this unit is a normally closed (NC) switch. That means that it is effectively turned ON all the time until something presses the button. as long as the button is held down, it's OFF. As soon as that something lets go, it turns on again. But there are lots of kinds of limit switches. Many of them are either normally open (NO) or they may be a double throw switch meaning that the switch is capable of both. If the NC switch was accidentally replaced with an NO switch, it do what it sounds like you are describing. Or if a double throw switch was used and wired incorrectly, that would also cause the same problem. In either case, check the switch and make sure it is an NC switch or if it's a double throw, make sure the wires are connected to the "common" contact (C) and the NC contact.
      Hope that helps. If I've misunderstood, please let me know. Good luck!

      ....could this have been a burnout from me using it for about 8 hours straight..and what do you recommend sir..🤷‍♂️

    • @ClayCarlino
      @ClayCarlino  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gailbacka It's hard to tell just from the description, but that rattling sound seems bad to me. It sounds like something in there is physically broken that is probably preventing the assembly from working the way it's supposed to. I've seen this kind of thing before in other devices where there was a switch of some sort that was part of an assembly with some kind of broken bit. At first glance it seemed like everything should still work, but on much closer inspection and some testing, I discovered that the broken bit was allowing some things to move in ways that they shouldn't and making the whole mechanism not work. My recommendation would be to figure out what's causing that rattle, and if it is some kind of broken piece, see if you can fix it. It's also not a bad idea to test the limit switch and make sure it's still working as it's supposed to.
      Feel free to let me know how things are going. Good luck!

    Mine turns on but it wont disengage the pump when the pressure builds up

    • @ClayCarlino
      @ClayCarlino  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well that sounds dangerous! I don't know if you've taken your pressure switch apart yet, but it sounds like that pressure pin I show in the video is not engaging the limit switch. It could be the exact same problem that mine had, except that in my case, the pressure pin would engage, but not disengage, yours may not be moving at all (or at least not enough to activate the limit switch).
      I would try the following: 1.) Unplug the washer and disconnect the your hose. 2.) Very carefully take apart the pressure switch mechanism as I showed in this video. 3.) Make sure any springs and o-rings are still in decent shape and not binding anything. 4.) Thoroughly clean the pressure pin and the hole it moves around it. 5.) Put the pin back in place but move it back and forth, to feel for any spots when it tries to stick or bind up. If you find any, go back to step 4. 6.) Put everything back together and try it out.
      See if that helps. If not, and the pressure pin seems to be moving freely, you may need a new limit switch. It is possible that the switch itself is stuck in the closed position. You can test that with a multi-meter to be sure.
      Let me know how it turns out, or if you have any other questions! Good luck, and thanks for commenting!

      I will try to answer what I think is your question.
      There is a limit switch inside with a spring.
      The limit switch is normally on.
      That means that the motor will run.
      The handle of the machine has a trigger that makes the water flow.
      When you connect a hose, the water pressure pushes against the limit switch.
      The limit switch turns the motor off.
      When you squeeze the trigger on the handle, it releases the water pressure.
      With the pressure released, the motor will run.
