I'm surprised that you guys never saw the first Mission Impossible, because it was such a big deal back then especially when they made Jim as the baddie. In the series, Jim was such a good guy and a kind man. To have him turned heel like this made fans got angry back then, calling it ruined the legacy character. The movie was great but the fans couldn't forgive what happened to Jim. Fans have moved on from Jim - but he is still remembered. Also, the original cast was upset when they made Jim a traitor.
Oaks comment bout guys hair... lol. Didn't trust him right away. He's either a weatherman or bad guy. I was personally thinking politicians haircut so....lol. And Ving is in majority of movies. I think there was 1 or possibly 2 he wasn't in for whatever reason
And makes complete sense based on his explanation to Ethan in the cafe. He's just so tired of being used with nothing to show for it. It was a brilliant idea and kept the audience who knows the history off guard.
As a huge fan of the original TV series, that was the only thing I did not like, Jim Phelps was always breaking the rules and putting his life on the line to save/protect his team members, even if he had become jaded about being used, he would never kill the members of his team! This film also has the worst effect, the really obvious models of the train and helicopter going in to the tunnel.
When I was in the Army years back and stationed in Germany I made it a priority to go to Prague and stand right on that same bridge Jon Voight flips over into the water. Loved every minute of being in that city. This film still holds up remarkably well. The whole train sequence alone is still amazing.
Funny story I was working at a movie theater when this movie came out. We would do screenings of the movies before they came out to make sure they were put together correctly. We'd watch them at usually 1 a.m. . We had the new Dolby sound systems in our theaters. The sound volume was never supposed to be any higher then 1.5 and we had it at 3. Directly behind the screen was a perfume store with glass shelves. The mall security guard was walking by it right when the train went into the tunnel and it was so load that the security gate for the shop rattled and perfume bottles and glass shelves started to break! The security guard came running into the theater screaming to turn it down! It was over a thousand dollars in damage but the movie was awesome!
Damm,I worked at the movie theaters too when I was a teenager, back in the 90s, and all of us employees would screen or proof the reel, which means checking for tears in the reel after work and we would watch the movie at 1 am and we wouldn't leave until about 3 to 4 am.And we would go get food or whatever fast food place was open and come back to watch the film.😊
If you guys notice in the end credit scene, Emilio Estevez's name was not listed in for some reason. To this day, i'm not sure why. And back then Emilio was a pretty famous actor, so when we see his character died first, it's to show that in this movie, anyone can die and no one is exactly safe. Ballsy move in my opinion. Overall, a great movie still and the train action sequence still holds up! 👍

I love the recent MI movies, they found a great formula that never fails. But this first one has an elegance and subtlety that makes it unique and just a fantastic movie on its own.
Barnes isn't the original MI guy, Barnes is played by Dale Dye Jr. He was a decorated marine and served during the Vietnam war. The guy has been in nearly every action film you can think of. He was also in the Band of Brothers he played Colonel Sink. He works as a technical advisor in most of the films he is in because you know, he truly is an absolute bad ass.
This was an amazing movie era!! And Tom was absolutely crushing it… seeing him in the phone booth at the beginning , his mouth, his teeth… LESTAT! Right there! Interview with the vampire!!! The nostalgia is real… and this is the moment he starts “the running” and never stopped since!! 😂😂😂😂
Such a cool train scene at the end. The high-speed Eurostar train service connecting London to Paris and Brussels through the Channel Tunnel had only recently opened at the time, and they really missed a trick not allowing the filmmakers to use their name - it would have been amazing free publicity! The train's normal operating speed is 300km/h (186mph), although it's record speed is 334.7km/h.
Can’t wait to watch this. I’m so looking forward to your view of the entire series. I do want to point out that number 2 is universally considered the weakest link, and number 3 is an over-correction of number 2’s shortcomings. But after that they even exceed the greatness of the original. Such fun and excitement. Can’t wait to see what you think!
Nice Intro fellas. M:I is one of several classic tv series, created by Bruce Gellar. That debuted during the 1960s Spy craze. There was a continuation of the series in the late 1980s with characters from the original and newly added characters. Cruise officially became a producer with this first installment. Formed a company with lady producer Paula Wagner. Both were given the greenlight to make the movie. It does match the tv series at almost perfect beat and Cruise becomes the consummate stunt performer as he is today. . The theme by Lalo Scrifrin is so timeless with Intrigue and excitement. Adam Clayton & Larry Mullen from the group, U2 did the new version of it. The great Brian DePalma as director never missed his mark on this. The reruns resurged on FX, the film k.o.'d the box office and Cruise most definitely had a franchise. I couldn't wait for more of the impossible. Personally, I loved the video games and The Ethan Hunt Chronicles comic-book series that followed.
I know I'm not alone in this, but Kittridge was such a fan favorite even though he was such an annoying boss and an antagonist towards Ethan. But he's not a villain, which is a nice surprise.
This makes me so happy....I started with 6 (Fallout) in theaters, got me to go back and watch the first 3, fell in love.....saw Dead Reckoning in theaters and it was unbelievably good. I've since rewatched all of them with other reactors....it's undoubtedly one of the best movies franchises ever. Such an amazing amalgamation of action, drama, espionage, political intrigue, and even comedy. Love seeing others get into it!
what a bloody nice job of the intro guys so epic and enjoyed it you made the impossible , to a possible nice job lets go with the first of the franchise.
Ving Rhames has been in all MI movies except Ghost Protocol, the 4th one. 44:11 - They can reach a top speed of 300 kilometres per hour (that's 186 miles per hour) on high-speed lines in the UK, France, Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands. Going through the Channel Tunnel's a little slower - 160 kilometres per hour (or 100 miles per hour) to be precise.
Well technically Ving was in GP at the end for about 2 mins which is longer than Samuel L J has been in some of the Marvel movies but he still gets credited with being in them when they count highest grossing movies of all time. Lol.
Brian DePalma, the director, is a master of suspense and set pieces. (he also made Scarface and Untouchables) Very influenced by Hitchcock. You should watch a classic thriller of his called BLOW-OUT with John Travolta.
"he does so many of his own stunts" ... the understatement of the year the more dangerous the more tom will do it himself, including several ones that were life threatening ... this guy trains for months to do a 4 second scene himself xD thats why i love his movies u can always see his face doing the stunts
Yes! Been waiting for you guys to do this series, recommended it awhile ago. Just wait till you get to 5, 6, and 7. They are benchmarks in modern spy/action movies
They approached the original Jim Phelps actor (Peter Graves) to play him in this movie but he turned down the role as he didn’t like how his beloved character was portrayed in this version.
They also lost other original cast members when Graves declined. I never liked making Phelps the traitor, especially for money. The fact they pissed away the chance to have Graves and others reprise their roles makes that decision even worse.
Literally love that I've been binge watching your videos and hoped to see you do mission impossible and just saw this in my recommendation love you guys I'm HYPED
Just found this channel and instantly followed. I enjoy this channel in comparison to many others, because you’re all just regular manly dudes, without that nerdy or know-it-all energy, but also without being completely ignorant to the primary education curriculum. Plus Mission Impossible series is one of my favorites, so this is a treat. Cheers guys.
at 42:10 made me smile when The Oak is slapping Mason's arm, my kids say that I do that when we go to the movies all the time! Great reactions Badd Medicine!!!
To answer your question about the speed of train, the TGV the french high speed train goes to an average of 320 km per hour or almost 200 miles per hour. 😉
This is why M:I 1 is one of my all-time favorites. Not just the series but in the genre. I always have this one in the top-3 of the Mission: Impossible movies The second one is even fun but it's quite contained in plot so I don't even really consider it canon even though it doesn't create problems in the series overall. But I know you'll still enjoy it! So good! I'll definitely be looking to you guys as motivation for the gym too 😅 I dream of being swole lmao
To answer Oak about when did Kittridge understand that Ethan was not the bad guy.. Just before they go to the train scenes, there is a scene that Kittridge gets the package with the tickets to the train and is handed the watch that the glasses feed the signal to.. ;) They do a good job of hiding the main portion of the watch so that you don't actually recognize it from the beginning when Emilio is showing Sarah about the glasses, but can see enough of the band to recognize that it is a watch that dropped from the package with the tickets..
The guy with the long hair actually was in Die Hard, only he had short hair and glasses and was the guy McClane killed and sent down the elevator. He was also the henchman in the Bond film The Living Daylights.
During the raid of Maxes appartement, the agent with the white hair Kittridge was talking to, happened to be Dale Dye, who latter played a very important part as a military advisor in "Saving Privat Ryan".
When I was a kid I used to watch the original trilogy on a portable dvd player any time we drove down to my grandparents (it was a roughly 6 hour drive, so it was the perfect amount of time to watch all 3), so I have a soft spot for these first 3 movies, and I'm looking forward to y'alls reactions for the entire franchise Also that opening was amazing, shows how much y'all genuinely enjoy putting out this type of content.
1966 was the original series. Jim Phelps was from season 2 till end of 1972 season 7. Reboot 1989-1990 series of 2 seasons. Peter Graves played Jim Phelps in both tv series.
Ok so as far as I remember none of the original actors are in this movie. The only originals from the tv series is the name Jim Phelps and the theme music. The original Jim Phelps actor had white hair ( not the Barnes guy ) you'd recognize him as the pilot in the movie Airplane next to Karem Abdul Jabar. Great reaction guys - Keep 'em coming :)
Sounds weird to hear somebody refer to this as an old movie. I was in College when it first came out so that would make me old. Probably my favorite of the franchise. Seen it countless times.
High-speed trains, also known as bullet trains, are those that reach speeds of 200 km/h on adapted tracks, and from 250 km/h on tracks specifically designed for them. More or less that's the speed at which Tom Cruis was riding on the train.
I've seen all of the M.I. movies, but not in order. The third film was my first and now I finally watched the first one last month. I'm excited to watch the entire series with you guys!
I think it came down to him knowing it was not Ethan because he said "Ethan was the only one on the team to survive so it must be him". Of course we later find out the other 2 who survived where both the moles.
Fun fact the actress that played " Max" is actress Vanessa Redgrave, who's daughter was late actress Natasha Richardson who passed away in a Skii accident. Natasha was married to actor Liam Neeson.
The guy with the white hair (the actor) was NOT in the original, Mission Impossible TV series. The actor who played Jim Phelps in the TV series was Peter Graves. John Voight actually played the Jim Phelps character. I can't find the white-haired guy from the movie and who he was, but he is not Peter Graves. Loved your reaction! So glad you reacted to all the MI films!
I saw this movie when I was definitely too young to see it. The one thing that stayed with me my entire life was that elevator death scene. I forgot basically the rest of the entire movie except for that one moment. It was so deeply disturbing to me.
Cameron Diaz wears a white leotard to become invisible, somersaults across the pressure sensitive floor to do a handstand and get the key. Catherine Zeta squeezes through invisible lasers blindfolded to steal the crown jewels. Mila Jovovich does a trapeze routine and some advanced gymnastics and fashion to steal something to start the French Revolution.
Love this series! Your little intro made me emotional, my whole family adores Tom Cruise, we always watch his movies together (even my 86 years old grandma). My two favourites from him is The last samurai and Collateral, where he is the villain. Never thought he can pull off the evil character, but man... He is awesome.
One of my favorite movies. Another one of my favorites you should react to is The Final Countdown (1980) The U.S.S. Nimitz goes back to December 6th, 1941. It's filmed on the Nimitz. It's like Top Gun meets Back to the Future.
The iconic scene of Tom hovering; you guys should watch this special Tom discussed this iconic scene and the many takes he had to go through; Tom revealed Palma saw one take and said good to go.
I was so excited when saw you guys posted a reaction to this movie. I had just re-watched this a couple of days before I saw your guys' video. I'm gonna watch these movies along with you guys. Yay! ❤ I think I'd only ever seen the first movie in the series. Should be fun to explore all these. Always fun to hang out with you guys and see your take on things. Thanks for sharing your time with us out in Internet land! 😊
Now yall know. Once, you start something like that intro, we’re going to need more 😩🤗🤗 Ready! Willing! And Able to start another great series with you fellas!!!
Brian De Palma does a great job of building tension, suspense and thrill to this story. I know this movie is not everyone's cup of tea because of the slower pace, but I like it and its always interesting to go back and see the origins of the movie series considering what the movies have become now.
The sleight of hand that Tom Cruise does here is actually impressive, I always enjoy that scene, because he’s defusing a tense situation with magic and humour.
Hope y'all enjoyed the open! This film was epic! Where does the MI franchise rank on your list? Did we miss anything?

Jim Phelps was the main character of the Mission Impossible TV show, so making him the villain was a shock for those who followed the series.
And makes complete sense based on his explanation to Ethan in the cafe. He's just so tired of being used with nothing to show for it. It was a brilliant idea and kept the audience who knows the history off guard.
Does he play the same character from the show?
As a huge fan of the original TV series, that was the only thing I did not like, Jim Phelps was always breaking the rules and putting his life on the line to save/protect his team members, even if he had become jaded about being used, he would never kill the members of his team! @@user-pe8ji5sn8eThis film was the first one and came out of 1996. The fact that the oldest one has the worst effects is a good thing for the series.

Fantastic franchise!! So cool you guys are doing these. Can’t wait for all of them. Tom is so amazing in these movies.
I love when Oak gets so excited haha. Another great reaction, thank you!
High-speed trains, also known as bullet trains, are those that reach speeds of 200 km/h on adapted tracks, and from 250 km/h on tracks specifically designed for them. More or less that's the speed at which Tom Cruis was riding on the train.
Holy crap! I just watched this for the 1st time this past weekend! Can’t believe y’all dropped this today, and that it was Oak’s 1st viewing too!
Jean Reno a incredible french actor as a french guy i loved his performance in this movie
Y’all really upped the production value on this one!
23:19 yes. In the 4th one, he was there for a cameo. But other than that, yes he is in every single one of them
I saw this movie when I was definitely too young to see it.
I love these intros! Badd Med is the best
I'm here for this. Love the intro guys!!
26:21 Mason Quinn giving us the look !! 😂😂😂
Yay! ❤
I think I'd only ever seen the first movie in the series. Should be fun to explore all these. Always fun to hang out with you guys and see your take on things. Thanks for sharing your time with us out in Internet land! 😊
I love this movie.
Have you seen Tinker, Tailor? Gary Oldman and Benedict Cumberbatch are fantastic British spies.
First of all, that intro… GOLD!! 😂😂 haven’t seen Dead Reckoning yet but my favorite is Rouge Nation. Super excited for this series!
26:17 yep, you noticed it and they didnt seem to xd. Great reaction.
Now yall know. Once, you start something like that intro, we’re going to need more 😩🤗🤗
Ready! Willing! And Able to start another great series with you fellas!!!
My favorite parts were oak saying he didn’t like spy movies but getting excited for multiple moments
Oh man what a great movie. And Tom Cruise is like an Armani suit - just always looks great and never goes out of style. 🤗
Awesome Intro!!! So excited to watch you guys react to this glorious franchise.
I'm only 2min into the video and it was already worth the click, do these intros more often! It turned out awesome! HAHA
Y'all are so cool! 😭🤣 I'm calling you guys for my next mission 🤭
😂😂🤙🤙🤙
